I’ve done some digging, but can’t find any recent interviews. Yardbarker mentions watching to see if he signs. Not much outside of that. ELCs are pretty much all the same except:

Pending FAs are now more demanding, saying if their teams don’t sign them and burn the first year of the deal, they’ll walk. I haven’t heard anything like this for Petruzzelli, but it’s become more and more common. The other holdup is bonuses (schedule a, schedule B, etc). Lou Lamarillo almost never signs for the full bonus schedule (Marner lost out on millions) but Matthews made the debate public via the media forcing the Leafs hands. Lou was let go shortly thereafter.

Opportunity-wise, Detroit is wide open. Jobs can be earned and taken.

Yeah I don’t see why he wouldn’t sign. Detroit shouldn’t have any concern burning an ELC and like you said opportunity wise there probably aren’t many better teams to go to. Plus the ole original 6 factor.

His backchecking has been really impressive. I’ve seen him just shoplift the puck in the neutral zone, d zone and the o zone. That is not what he was known for when we drafted him. He’s working his butt off.

You’re probably right. Everything is just so quiet from the Detroit offices. It’s kind of frustrating, but I get it. Even at last year’s draft someone “leaked” one of Detroit’s targeted picks and Ottawa traded up to grab him. There are GMs who just try to latch on to someone else’s ideas or insert themselves into a situation to try and take over a deal. I admire the GMs who do their thing and don’t go chasing down everyone else’s info.
