I hope so, we really need a couple guys to exceed expectations and TK be the player he was last year - ClaudeFather
I still see Hart becoming a true #1 NHL goaltender. Sanheim a solid top 4 two way defenseman. Myers has the potential to be a top pairing #2 as the high end and also a solid top 4. I think Farabee has the potential to be a 35 goal 70-80 point player. Konecy has already shown that he can score. Lindblom, IF he can get his strength back is a 20 goal two way forward. Frost is the wild card to me. He really has high end skill. If he can put it together, he can be the best out of all of them. I don't like it though when a player is derailed by injury. Sometimes that can't be overcome. I like what I hear about Foerster. They have a bunch of lesser pedigree prospects also that many are high on.

Best season you've seen from a Flyers in past 30 years... go! - Tomahawk
Past 20:
Forsberg, 1st season.
Pronger, 1st season
Giroux: the 93 point season some years back (I rank it higher than the 100+ point season)

For eg: if opinions diverge sharply, then it is one thing. But if many external watchers all rank Flyers prospects outside the top 20 or so, I put higher weight on the collective opinion. - PT21
Ignoring that many have the same sources. Sometimes it's not really a collective opinion.

SMS has posted here several times about why NHL picks tend to be so random, and his thesis is that it is partly taht they get drafted at 18 instead of 21/22 NFL and NBA. It kinda makes sense.
More to the point, picks are random and expert opinions are far from infallible. But I guarantee you (and I am sure you agree) that a guy like McKenzie, Button et al are not sitting on an island watching tape and having a swig of scotch and then offering their Gospel. They are likely at the top of a huge information pyramid of scouts, personnel, other writers, coaches, execs etc with whom they chat regularly (in reality, not like EK). In return, said scouts/GM etc get to hear what other in their profession are thinking. He filters things, swirls things around etc.
What you are getting is a reflection of the collection of such information. Button is worth several million, makes several grand a year. If he was so spectacularly wrong, it is unlikely someone would not scoop him. - PT21
I'm sure they spend a lot of time talking to contacts around the league.
I'm sure they also spend a lot of time talking to their producers and network execs on what kind of narratives and perspectives need to be pushed.
I don't think either McKenzie or Button are full on hacks. But like I said before, they're entertainers, first and foremost. They are in the business of giving the audience what it wants. So TSN can sell ads and add subscribers. |

We can only hope JVR has a good month of April, keep up his pace and finish the year close to a point a game player. The Kracken are going to need some veterans and given JVR's productivity and his price tag (which is reasonable, not off the charts) I think he might fit nicely for them. They can't draft all young prospects, they have to at least get to the cap floor and field a good hockey team if they want the fans to show interest, as Vegas did. - jd250
Yes, and like I said. I expect there to be numerous high cap hit good players available for Seattle to choose from. They also have a UFA advantage where they can spend.

Gee I dunno.
Look at probabilities and incentives and the nature of capitalism/competition and you can generally hone the variability down a little.
For eg: if opinions diverge sharply, then it is one thing. But if many external watchers all rank Flyers prospects outside the top 20 or so, I put higher weight on the collective opinion. - PT21
But that's just it, every recent farm system ranking I have seen has the Flyers in the top 10, so how can they not have more top prospects in the top 75? I mean so far this is what we have seen:
Hart -> struggling but I still think will be a top goalie
TK -> looks like a fringe top 6 forward
Patrick -> 4th liner
Lindblom -> fringe top 9
Bunnaman - 4th liner
NAK - 4th liner
Carsen Twarynski - 4th liner
Myers/Sanhiem - bottom pairing Dmen
So its not good so far, but there is hope in who is coming up this year and the next few years. Things have to turn around for the Flyers, or they are screwed with a capital 'S'.

Ok, well I'm hoping they will take one of our high priced vets off our hands, I mean we need to move these guys out of here and let Couts take over this team! |

Calling bullpoop on the scale of this assertion. Neither of the two are particularly entertaining, like Don Cherry. McKenzie esp. is not.
Here is a litmus test of capitalism. Behind every job is a person who wants it. In a public world like today, some dude is always younger, handsomer, more entertaining, and if what you are saying is correct - they can out analyze the analyst.

Gee, I dunno man.
I think you will see some prospects for vets wheeling dealing this summer. For sure they will add a veteran D man.
But if a miss is as good as a mile, that will simply keep them in the upper middle (picking say 13-23) long term. The assessment you gave, of Flyers chances being 12% in 2022-26 of landing a cup with Couts, boils down to picking about #16 on average during those years.

Exactly.
And each is independent of the other. There are say 5 guys we are talking about. If they even have 1/3 chance of reaching their ceiling (and that is pretty high odds), then the chances of all reaching their potential is <0.5%. |

Hysterical. Context is everything. Entertaining in a sport setting. Cherry was a circus clown.

Sanhiem is already a top 4 as is Myers. Even if they don't reach their top potential, they'll be good players. Hart by many is considered a potential future superstar goalie. I listed him a legit #1. Yes, you need prospects to hit. To reach their potential. That issue is there for every team.

With the draft being a complete crapshoot from year to year. This is an absurd statement.
