No team is giving a first for Laughton although the idea of adding some extra picks to use with Seattle is a must.
- Sinisalo4vr

I think you can get a 2nd for Laughton.

great article at
https://thehockeywriters....l-flat-salary-cap-impact/
on the ghost waiver moves as truly cap and roster player related, and the nightmare that's coming up with trying to sign rfa's with a flat cap. I didn't realize quite how bad it's going to be. You basically have lots of teams who are just going to have to let great players walk because they have no choice unless New Jersey will welcome some of their roster players and pay them back in assets for the privilege?!
Article doesn't say the following, but it's implied, but if youre Fletcher and you want to improve this team in the long run, then there will be many more excellent players available after the season. Of course, if we can miraculously shed some salary, it'll be worth its weight and gold to go shopping for those unaffordable rfa's and great players who would normally be resigned but now will go to ufa because their team simply can't resign them no matter how much they want to.

Here is Craig Button's top 75 NHL prospect list:

https://www.tsn.ca/detroi...-prospects-list-1.1617205

The Flyers have exactly 1 player Cam York and he is number 46. This has to be a kick in the heads of Flyers fans who keep thinking this team has all these prospects just waiting to come up and make a difference. At this point, I would have expected more than 1 prospect from the Flyers would be on this list if their system was really that stacked.

There do have a bunch of young talent. The only way path to the cup is through the farm system. Trading prospects for picks makes no sense to me, just delaying. I don't think we would get anything really valuable for either Giroux or Voracek. A trade for a steady D is good, but its not time to give up. This year is shot, next year will be better with the influx of the young guys and the ongoing maturation of guys like Frost, Myers, and Lindblom

Button mostly does a good job. To not have Frost or Foerester is a tad surprising. But again you take all these lists with a grain of salt....Wade Allison as well.

It's over. The franchise is doomed. Do you think Foerster is a quality prospect?

Seems like recency bias, leaving off Frost because he was injured. I know Brink has sort of polarized opinions. Was Frost listed by Button last year?

Another thing to remember is that many of our recent blue chip prospects have graduated to the NHL in the last 4-6 years. Some are having a rough go now, but have also had mixed success.

Good points.

And Craig Button is generally wrong a lot. His rankings are there to fabricate controversy and drive clicks. It's entertainment.

Why doesn’t the quotes work. Is there a trick or something? Or does it just work sometimes and other times not?

Regarding TK sitting while Patrick is in... I tend to agree with MJL. Unless AV just thinks TK needs a break. They’ve been playing a lot of Hockey. One day off, can make a big impact. Most fans thinks it’s negative for it to be a healthy scratch. It probably is is most cases.

Bendecko pointed out the remedy some months back.

When you go to comments on a Bill blog, go the blog itself, then clock on the comments counter at the top of the blog (right next to the date and time stamp). Don't click on comments directly, and don't click on comments at the bottom. Then quotes will work from first page.

As opposed to who? The flu vaccine has a 40% efficacy rate. Would you recommend the elderly don't take it?

The two are not mutually exclusive, really.

Button ranks individuals. Your list ranks the entire set. You could have a large # of B grade prospects and finish higher than some places that have a few A prospects and not much else.

Easier method is just remove any symbols you may see at the end of the URL -- the web address should end w/ numbers.

When people someone/institution is wrong a lot, they usually seem to imply they are not taking their opinion seriously. And therefore presumably considering someone else's opinion (including perhaps their own).

But that second opinion might have a failure rate that is even higher. In other words, Button could wrong a lot, but still more right than wrong.

Wait, what?
Optimism, hope? A flyers' fan?

My aged (and much beloved by me) and now deceased aunt Phyl, did a needle point for me.
"A New Day, A New Hope, A new Joy" on a bed of flowers.
She was astoundingly good with any thread. She made $50 a day (For the kids, $40 /week was minimum wage.) in the middle of the last century designing sweaters for Robert Bruce and her work stands well in the tumult of time.
That one piece hangs over my the exit of my bedroom. It helps to read it before I leave the chamber, especially being a Flyers' fan.

GO FLYERS!

Thanks, Aunt Phyl.
ANd you too NC

Thanks for the response. If I’m the flyers konecny is a non-starter in a Gaudreau trade and for that I’ve never seriously considered it. (But a man can dream)

While this is all just an unlikely hypothetical, with Calgary appearing to go into a re-tool I’d be down to take on the contract of decent but way overpaid players. Especially in a Gaudreau trade since I believe his value has slipped drastically since our western conference champions season. Taking on a bad contract will help maximize the return on him

- RedC21

I sincerely hope it's a non-starter for us too. JG or his play are not built for the playoffs and TK is far from peaking.

I don’t expect anything of substance by the TDL...but if this team returns next year with this same sorry group then to me the Flyers made a major error in hiring Fletcher...flat cap be damed....no body said it was going to be easy. The excuses have to stop.

Here is the thing though. If you are going the moderate tanking route (stay competitive, draft in mid round, develop as best you can), you will have to scoop more sand to find gold. I understand this has been a tough month, but I don't understand why it is so tough that we just jump ship.

Opinion here seems to fall into 3 categories:

1. Trade to get a "different mix of vets" (you and others)
2. Stay patient and resign Couts and G (Tomahawk, MJL, Mickel 25..)
3. Draft higher (me and a couple of others).

My preference is 3-2-1. If we start giving up on the youngsters this early, you will get B grade vets who will give you more respectability for a couple of years and then suddenly the bottom will fall off and you will have no prospects either.

Button panders hard to his Canadian audience by talking up their teams' prospects. Of that list of 75, about a third of the list belongs to the 7 Canadian franchises. The Maple Leafs have 5 players just by themselves, when their prospect pool is kinda meh. Rasmus Sandin is the 14th best affiliated player? Like wut?

IMO, all these lists are pretty much bullpoop to begin with. But Button/TSN take it to another level. The only list from TSN worth a damn is McKenzie's pre-draft rankings, because that's a survey of all the NHL teams, not opinion.

Depending on what one and any issues they have say heart issues for example yes.
I told my dad who is 73 he better do his research and be sure.
Personally I’ll pass. That’s what immune systems are for.
