I'd be real hard pressed to find a coach after a season removed ftom a Jack Adams finalist to getting canned the next over a bad month of hockey.

With that said, the man (AV) has done some really questionable crap in March.

- Pelle31Forever

Jack Adam's finalists being fired? Gerard Gallant and Lindy Ruff are likely the most recent. Bill Barber, Ted Nolan, Bob Hartley, Brian Sutter are all Jack Adam's winners fired the following year (Nolan was fired before even coaching a game the following year). These dismissals aren't really that unprecedented.

I like AV, but it's more than just a month of bad hockey. They weren't playing very well through Jan and Feb, although if one looked at their record alone, it might be easy to be deceived. I agree alot with what Bill said in regards to AV, he can be a good coach and has had success in the past. Where I disagree is with chalking AV's past couple months up to merely being human. Everyone makes mistakes, no question, but these mistakes aren't new to AV. They're the very same mistakes he made in Vancouver and again in NY prior to his dismissals. The only difference being is that it seems things have been fast tracked here in Philly. They haven't had multiple seasons of success with him behind the bench, yet his poor choices are already appearing and it's led to setting some very embarrassing records. The red flags should be flying. I'm not thrilled about the idea of making another coaching change, I just don't believe he's the right fit here at this moment. Give him the rest of the year if you want, but I'm not expecting thing's to improve much. And I'm hoping there's not irreparable damage done to some of the young players.

All that said, I too believe changes need to be made to the roster.....but they're not going to be able to vastly change the make up as much as many would like due to some big contracts, even in the off-season.

Well, I know one place where you can wallow in hockey technicalities this evening.

Anytime such topics come up, guys like you don't tell me what to say, when to say it, how often and for how long. I do. If you have a problem, complain to the mods.

I suggest you restrict your own participation to the 100th iteration of the Ekholm trade.

- PT21

So he can't tell you what to say but you can tell him what he should restrict his participation to.

I'd rather discuss his 100th iteration of the Ekholm trade than your 1000th iteration of needing an elite player to win the cup.

Well said. Although I'm not interested in a coaching change. I just want AV to do a better job.

I just saw PT21 walking downtown. He was doing a cost benefit analysis of walking one foot in front of the other versus hopping on both feet.

That poor north Philly food bank is never going to get its check.

The reason you have no idea is because you are utterly uninformed.

Lines tend to be huge in minority areas polls. It can be pretty hot in Georgia during early Nov. Many of the voting are elderly, coming straight from the Church. They might have to have kids with them who they are looking after.

Nobody votes based on the promise of water. However, many people may choose not to vote based on possible discomfort. Bring your own water. LOL. Maybe next we should say - bring your own Porta Potty.

In every decent democracy, people try to induce people to vote. Here, the government is trying to restrict people from voting.

- PT21

So all of a sudden, in 2021 it’s to frickin hard to vote. Shut up a hole.

Again, if all this was true, then a coach would never be fired. Do you think Dave Hakstol went over things again and again? Do you think he used video? Was he held accountable for the players mistakes? If you want to say the majority of blame is on the players, I'm with you. If you want to say that the coaches don't share in any of the blame. I'm not with you.
- MJL

No no .. I agree the coaches are clearly not getting through to these players and I have been critical of some of AV's decisions on how he uses Farabee. My only real point is this the 5th coach the Flyers have had over 8 years, how many voices do they have to hear? So I think we agree, the players have most of the blame but AV and his staff deserve some of the blame also.

Should you have had the intellectual honesty to confine your comments to inappropriate content censure, I would not have had anything at all to say in response.

Instead, you tried to be cute. You used hogwash in capitals, posted twice, and then said the above I bolded, and then tried to dress your position in a garb of technicality. I notice your disapproval was quite conspicuous by its absence from the time the topic first appeared.

Comments such as the one you made don't fool me one bit. I know exactly what you are trying to do, because I remember the Kate Smith debate and your position.

Anytime such topics come up, guys like you don't tell me what to say, when to say it, how often and for how long. I do. If you have a problem, complain to the mods.

Sports boards like this have a disproportionate # of people who echo the original poster's ignorance. I like to do my bit to redress the imbalance.

I suggest you restrict your own participation to the 100th iteration of the Ekholm trade.

I posted it once, this stupid website displayed it twice, not me. Also I never weighed in on Kate Smith and have no idea what debate you are referring to. Really I have no hidden agenda here. I have strong opinions of the world, politics, the direction of this country, etc. but I just don't share them on his forum because I don't think its appropriate. I enjoy coming here and fighting with great posters like MJL about the Flyers, that is my escape from the reality of this world that is often not kind and surely not heading in the right direction. So that's it really, not trying to be cute, or smart or anything else when it comes to non-hockey matters. In fact MJL would say I'm not even smart when it comes to hockey

It is a little disconcerting how many people use a refuge metaphor instead of a entertainment metaphor for this site

I want to say I am terribly sorry about the last sentence of my previous response. You post passionately about hockey and generate a lot of interesting content and did not come even close to deserving it. I stand by everything else I said but my nastiness at the end was inappropriate, uncalled for and in very poor taste.

I apologize to you sincerely. I am not going to say anything further to dilute the apology.

The bill being talked about passed in 2021.

Several provisions are in the Georgia bill are very specifically tailored to impact a certain segment of the population. They go well beyond a general voter ID requirement. Some of the even more blatant details, like curtailing early voting on Sunday morning (when older blacks go to vote after service) was dropped. However, that those measures were even there provides context for the bill.

Imagine if a Democrat controlled state government passed a law that led polls to close an hour early. Who would that disproportionately impact? Male working Republican voters, as they tend to vote after work. The equivalent of that happened in GA.

Imagine if the law passed right after there was a huge electoral upset in NY? Right after there was a big hue and cry about the results because of unusually high male Republican voting? It would be pretty clear what the motivation is. That's what happened in GA.

Imagine if the law was passed in the name of reform when just a few weeks earlier, there had been a vote, then a hand audit, and then yet another recount which showed absolutely nothing of the need for such reform, all presided over by Democrat officials? That's what happened in GA and that would tell you the underlying need for this bill was absent.

There are loonies in both parties. The Dems have the occupy Wall Street crowd.

But the difference in recent times is the take over of the mainstream in the Republican party by the Fox News types.

Don't take my word for it. Arch-conservative and speaker of the GOP controlled house (just a few years ago) John Boehner wrote an essay about it just yesterday.

Finally, I know you are beyond hope. This is not really addressed to you.
