Corey Perry on pace for a 21 goal season at 750 k. 82 game season that is. Why are stats people talking about this value? - Grinder47
18 goals his last 114 games. What a beast. |

I'd much rather play the Bruins in the playoff than face the Capitals right now. The 2021 Bruins just don't seem like the Boston clubs of the past decade or so right now. |

Pens might get lucky and hit the conf finals. I feel like that’s the ceiling for the team as is. I think they get run over by Tampa or Carolina personally. - j.boyd919
There's no conferences in 2021 though. The Pens could end up playing Winnipeg or Vegas in the 3rd round if they made it that far. |

For 750k he’s a steal. He would have done good on this pens team. I don’t think anyone can make a difference in Detroit. |

You said possession and you were wrong. I actually posted about the Matheson and Ceci pairing earlier in the thread and praised them for dominating HDC and being good in xGF. Maybe learn terminology. Possession isn’t a catch all term for analytics, it’s a specific thing. |

Theres really no saying what could happen. Tampa could go back to their true identity and lose in the first round. Carolina doesn’t scare me as much as the Islanders or the Bruins. Speaking of Tampa I could see Maroon becoming a Pen very soon. |

With our goal tending, make a big enough trade and anything can happen if Jarry and DeSmith keep it up. |

Agreed. Crazy to think but pens probably have the best goaltending duo in the league right now, no? |

Haha to his defense he didn't say Jarry would suck, he just wanted to see more and would feel more comfortable with a veteran backup. I just think these two have it this year and they are both pushing each other. It's a great tandem. |

Boston still has injury problems and apparently covid problems to boot. They are a wild card as far as how they will be playing come playoff time. Speaking of wild cards, you have Tuukka Rask, he is wildly inconsistent, having a down year, and injured. They do have time to get it together though.

I know he hasn't been mentioned, but I think Danton Heinen could be an under the radar/cheap target for the 4th line. |

Another garbage take for our local this D-man is my whipping boy. Move Matheson to wing so you can sit a forward that is preforming at a decent level. |

Decided to look at Matheci as a pairing at 5v5:
210:19 TOI
CF%: 48.51
xGF%: 56.47
HDCF%: 60.00
Off. Zone Faceoffs%: 47.75
Honestly this is pretty solid. Not a great play driving pairing as one would expect but they’re not a black hole of possession either and they’re absolutely controlling the HDCs. The D zone starts also could factor into the poor possession and it stands to reason that if Sullivan sheltered them more and leaned on Pettrino a bit more they could be even more effective.
The deployment Sullivan has these two on is working pretty well and has room for improvement.
EDIT: actually it looks like Pettrino gets even more defensive zone starts and it’s Dumtang that are getting the majority offensive starts. Sullivan may want to think about having his top pairing shoulder more of the defensive burden. - Victoro311
A further note on this: When Marino and Matheson were paired together (and were awful) they were also getting really hard deployment at 35.2 off. zone face-off %. Moral of this story seems to be Matheson can do good things with bottom pairing deployment so long as you don't try to shoe horn him into a second pairing shutdown role at which point you'll have a very bad time. |

Face off percent or zone start? Low O zone face off percent just means they never drive play into the offensive zone. |

I thought it meant zone start to be honest. But that would make sense since I don’t know why Sully would give Matheson-Ceci primarily defensive zone starts. |

Yeah zone starts are hard to look into and the percentages sites have listed are weird. A majority of shifts start on the fly. |
