Couldn't believe I beat you last week by such a razor thin margin!

You did? I am 10-1 and only lost to MDW earlier in the season.

My bad! Wrong league, I got them confused. I had a .75 point win in my other league.

I thought maybe there was a big stat correction or something and you last checked last night.

Nils won the award for best Swedish-born dman in the SHL. I’m not sure if this is a “fluff” award because of it being specific to a Swede or if it’s a big honor...

First, we cant rely on Ziba to bail us out of every faceoff. Plus, in terms of faceoffs vs other PK (special teams) guys, hes probably the worst of the bunch on faceoffs.

I said Rooney is serviceable, but hes not great and we can upgrade here as well.

Our 3C, we can just can it.

Our PK is great despite our deficiences at the circle, but push come to shove in the playoffs when things get real dirty, those faceoff wins are gonna be real important.

Now, how do we address our issues on the PP2? We literally dont have a center for it.

Why cant Strome be moved to Pp2? We are overloaded with rights on Pp1 anyway?

Because everyone hates Strome and he is the worst center in the league since Stepan!!

Yeah, they keep the exact amount they'd be charged in a buyout... Take it or leave it lol

Serious question and not trying to start an argument here, we’re projected to be wayyy under the cap next year even after we sign all our guys. I think we both agree going out and making a big splash would be dumb bc eventually these ELC’s will be expiring. So if we have the cap space, why not eat some salary to get a better return? If eating salary prevented us from signing someone I get it, but it’s not going to.

I think that is a valid idea/point. But if they can't get any return on him I do see them just buying him out. I think even though they have no intention of playing him inside the organization they don't want to hold him back from going elsewhere.

Certainly a valid point. Being a bit formulaic with that decision, it would be dependent on the return, particularly so if they're able to get an NHL ready player with a low cap hit for ADA. But if they're eating cap and end up with a prospect that won't impact the roster next season...what's the point?

Because we don’t need the cap space. If we needed it, sure. But hypothetically let’s say it increased the return from a 3rd to a 2nd, or ok prospect to a better one, that’s not worth having the dead cap space we don’t need? We just played an entire season with Shattenkirks 6 million cap hit that we got nothing for.

I actually agree with you here. It's also "less" dead. With a buyout, the amount of time with the dead money is doubled, if we just retain salary it would run out when the contract runs out. There's really no reason to not retain salary if it meant getting a better return

But they could still potentially use that cap space in other ways in the future. Using it now eliminates any future use. Again, if eating it now helps in the long run then they should absolutely do it. If it's just "because they don't need it", that seems short sighted.

So a lot of our cap space issue this year is due to performance bonuses from the kids. Who's bonuses are actually attainable this year?

I agree with Bean Dip here. IMO, I don't think the Rangers should be liberal in cap use, just because it's not becoming a grave issue. I think making sensible decision that allow for flexibility during development years allows the Rangers to fill in gaps within the roster down the line to be a contender. Also, it allows for flexibility for future contracts or trades if some of the prospects don't pan out as intended. I think future thinking is best during the rebuild. My 2 cents.
