We were talking about minutes, thats where the debate came. On how to get LAF more minutes.

Me suggesting these line combos isnt because I want him to get more minutes, which will in turn happen playing on the top line. Its more about line balance and Ive been saying all season that Kreider should have been on the 3rd line the whole time, however still playing on the PP1 and PK.

I very much agree with this logic and those lines you’ve suggested. Spreads the wealth, makes the team a matchup nightmare.

Only thing holding this up is the KZB line has been really strong since it was put back together. But long term, we need the CKK and BLZ lines to be just as good. How about that for line nicknames

Personally, I think Kreider doesnt add to that line. I dont think he makes that line better or worse. Hes got good strength and speed, however hes not a particularly great shooter and an ever worse passer.

Given LAF's hockey IQ and vision, I think he can really help excel that line.

the problem with this idea is how to pull it off

even when PP1 doesn't score they are extremely effective at keeping the puck and applying pressure, they can't just skate to the bench at the 1 minute mark if they are in the middle of a play

- jimbro83

True, and to be quite honest, IDK the breakdown of other teams PP1'PP2 units ice time, but it just seems as though the PP2 is never really on the ice except for like the last 20 seconds of every PP.

Right CK20s 17 goals doesnt make the line any better nor the team for that matter!!!

I wish I could find a clip of the last PP they had vs the Sabres. Granted they didnt score, but that was by far one of the better PP shifts Ive seen from them all year. Panarin was taking one-timers instead of constantly handling and passing the puck. Fox took a couple shots, Strome took a shot from the other side. If they keep playing their PP like this, they will without a doubt do a lot more scoring on the PP.

Excellent work taking things out of context. First, I said and was very specific about his role on the line with Zib and Buch.

Kreider has 9PP goals, were not talking about this because I never said he should be taken away from the PP1 as his role there is incredibly important.

That means Kreider has 8 goals at even strength, 5 of them were scored during the time that Panarin was out and he was playing on a line with Strome.

That means, now if your math isnt that great Ill help you here, Kreider has a grand total of 3 goals at even strength playing with Zib and Buch.

Thanks for playing, have a nice day.

Pens up 1-0. Dude on Twitter wants to throw the playoffs away so Laffy’s confidence doesn’t get ruined. I need a drink.

I could never understand how losing will help raise confidence. Its the most asinine thing Ive heard.

I would think creating a culture of winning and making the playoffs (think Nick Lidstrom, 20 years in the NHL, never missed the playoffs) is what would inspire and drive the future of this franchise. Get that taste, get addicted to it, keep striving for it.

One would think that young players understand that in their 1st few years in the NHL that they aren't going to be or expected to be the savior. They learn from the coaches and vets, play hard, and in time will get their chances. No way do they want more playing time if it means they are getting it over players who are playing better, simply because of their draft position.

I think what’s killing some people is thinking that Laf would be on the 1st line and PP1 from day 1 and be close to a PPG player. The circumstances around this season, coupled with comparing him to other recent first overalls has fueled a ton of negativity and doubt. There is something to be said about the players he’s surrounded with lately, as they are viewed as a bit of a liability. I think putting him in that position is a bit of a head scratcher. But like many of you have said, playing meaningful games and developing a culture of winning needs to come first. Gotta be patient and think big picture, as difficult as that is to do sometimes.

LOL You couldnt play with yourself let alone anyone else. CK20s speed opens up the ice for everyone. If Zib wasnt so cold for the first 20 games CK20 would have at least another 5 or 6 assists. To say he doesnt bring anything to his line is moronic at best, add in the fact you want him on the third line is just stupid!!

Well making the playoffs just for the sake of making them and then getting swept, like last year, doesnt build anything. You arent going to be successful 2 years after starting a rebuild.

It’s as though you can’t have both a rebuild and success. What people like that are admitting is that they know their chances of winning games decreases bc of the kids’ inexperience in key spots. But somehow that’s good? What about the other 20+ players who the coach is accountable for not to mention that DQ is judged on results. And these people will be the first to blast Quinn for losing. That second point is your best. Give these guys an early taste. And also indicates that they are indeed ahead of schedule in the rebuild. Let’s go!!

Carolina Hurricanes two years ago thought the same thing, no? You never turn away a chance to play in the tournament. Ever. In my humble opinion.

Rangers were swept in ‘06. Hank’s rookie year. Turned out ok. The Rangers were terrible down the stretch of that season too. These guys could potentially go in pretty hot.

Again the English language and reading isnt your strong suit, I never said he doesnt bring anything to the line I said hes got great strength and speed. I believe Zib and Buch's production is despite Kreider being on their line though. Im sure there have been some situations where although it doesnt appear on the stat sheet, Kreider has helped them put in a couple. However, I believe what he provides for a line is universally applicable. What I mean by that is Kreider's stats at even strength wont change much if at all whether hes on the 1st or 3rd line because his game wont have to change. It will also help to not have a vulnerable 3rd line that other coaches and teams like to match up against their top lines.

LAF being on the top line with the real Zib, his skill and IQ I think will make that top line produce more. That line doesnt have a real playmaker, which is what LAF will contribute.
