What makes you think next season will be any better?

Wheeler Walker Jr.’s “I sucked another Richard last night” is this team’s new theme song.

I told myself I would give them 1 more season, same thing then I'm out completely. They could win the cup for all I care.

statistically speaking, there's a lot more room for improvement than there is for decay. of course, who is really going to be willing to settle for marginal improvement?

but then you DID say "any".

Without starting the chicken or the egg discussion again, my observation says roughly half of the goals against are on the team defense and half on the goaltending with maybe one goal every other game just bad luck. Both team defense and goaltending were historically horrid this past month.
- NC Flyers Fan

I completely agree that the team D has been abysmal (see Jake's pitiful attempt to get back on D for the 2nd goal last night), but I also know how deflating it is to play sound team D (which they have in a few games) and then the goalie $hits the bed by letting in an unscreened wrist shot from the blue line (just an example).

So is their silly experiment with Ghost over now so we can insert him back in the lineup and sit the $3million dollar horrible signing Gustafson now.

Might as well play them both and go full give up.

Jake should be on waivers and playing for the Calder

It’s come to that with this team. If fletcher has any gumption or balls he needs to make a move like this.

You’ll have to pry the kool aid out of some of these guys cold, dead hands.

Idk how anyone whose followed this team for the past decade isn’t fed up with this franchise.

- hereticpride

Past decade is an understatement. I've been a fan for 40+ years and it's been an extreme exercise in patience and understanding. I have never turned off more games in a season than I have during this debacle. They aren't even enjoyable to watch, which during some other seasons that weren't so good, I could at least count on some entertainment. Not so much anymore. I think a lot of the fan base has had enough of the excuses from ownership and management. Any goodwill from 2010 is long gone...

they should probably play that before games instead of the national anthem. i mean.. it'd be a proper song to kneel for wouldnt it?

See that's what I don't think everyone understands. I've been through years where they aren't good and lose and still enjoy the games because I know they are making progress and time will help. I can even go through losses, but appreciate that oh man they tried and the other team was just better this time (NJ in the 90's, Tampa series, so on). This is just a whole new level.

They have been neutered.

A 6-1 loss to a team on an 18 game losing streak minus their best player is as embarrassing as it gets. The fact it happened two weeks after losing 9-0 shows the players have zero accountability, a lack of pride, lack of guts. They could care less that everyone is mocking and laughing at them. Pathetic.

- PLindbergh31

Even Sam Morin isnt really instigating or fighting and that's partially what he is there for. The team really doesnt hit hard anymore, nor intimidate anyone for any reason. Not with physicality nor with speed/skill. Maybe I have overestimated them since their winning streak at end of last year.

Jake does seem to be costing the team a goal every other game w poor backchecking or missed defensive assignments.

Slava Butsayev!! Back in like '93 I was in second grade and the Flyers Wives marketing team had some publicity event at our school and gave out a bunch of freebies so while everyone got Lindros-adjacent cool stuff and Rod the Bod swag, I received an oversized Butsayev player card. My utter disappointment was only eclipsed by how bad I felt for Butsayev because I nor anyone had a clue who he was lol. The next year was my first season playing hockey in a league and because 88, 19, and 8 were already claimed, I took Butsayev's #26. Ah, youth!
- countreeman28

if you were in 2nd grade in '93, you still have your youth. Don't be so ready to give up on it.

(Ah. As they say, youth is wasted on the young).

Long enough to witness yet again him playing solely on the perimeter and not in the mix.
- BroadSTmayhem

Yeah. He’s not driving to the net like he did last year. As well. Tk has been absolutely invisible. I mean wtf?

I’m gonna say BS on this. It is only true for last night’s game when Morin had Gus, a new never before partner and reduced ice time.

Bill

You haven't ever called them out for THEIR stupid. Ever. You are a champion of the team management, not the team. Otherwise you would be fighting for change and improvement, not making excuses and minimizing the suck...

Help us Billy One - You're our only hope...

- BadCowboyDan

What "excuses" am I making? Be specific. I push back at hyperbole on either side of the fence; I try to balance off blind optimism with factors that need to be accounted for the same as I push back at 24/7 doomsday negativity.

March was a disaster. Most of the criticism of their play was completely deserved.

As for a champion of team management, I believe that I stated very strongly and clearly that I was concerned about the D corps before the season even started; that I was skeptical that you could have Ghost and Gus within the same starting six group; that a big part of the hope of taking the next step as a team this year was tied into continued advancement from Sanheim and Myers and that was not guaranteed to happen.

I'm usually fairly adept at finding a silver lining in a season when the Flyers don't do well or are beaten by a better team, but I'm really struggling with this one. I understand that COVID plays a factor into all this, along with the relatively young age of most of the players, but they're just going through the motions on most nights. The coaches aren't helping the situation either and I think AV did a great job in his first season. The product on the ice at this point is just unacceptable!

Tbh. I do not understand any of the roster or lineup decisions yesterday. Fine come back with moose and have Lyon back up so hart can work on his game. Otherwise, wth is going on? You barely beat buffalo two nights ago so you bring in two ahl players, dress our worst d man and waive a guy who hasn’t been great but now our worst. Making a statement because we didn’t win by enough the game before? Ok well show you guys and get blown out by a team that had lost 18 in a row. Way to embarrass the org and fans guys.

Bill,

I'm sorry that some people don't appreciate what you do for us fans every single day and have difficulty seeing that you have called out management when warranted.
We're lucky to have the best blogger on this site! Thank you for all you do!

Bill, you're missing the most critical part of his point. You aren't yelling hysterically about what you see. From what I gather, if you would just do that, everything would be fixed.
