Makes me long for the glory days of Paul Lawless, Shawn Antoski, Slava Butsayev and Jiri Latal. Ah, good times. Good times. - daddytc
Slava Butsayev!! Back in like '93 I was in second grade and the Flyers Wives marketing team had some publicity event at our school and gave out a bunch of freebies so while everyone got Lindros-adjacent cool stuff and Rod the Bod swag, I received an oversized Butsayev player card. My utter disappointment was only eclipsed by how bad I felt for Butsayev because I nor anyone had a clue who he was lol. The next year was my first season playing hockey in a league and because 88, 19, and 8 were already claimed, I took Butsayev's #26. Ah, youth! |

To me, bad goaltending is a symptom, not the disease. - MJL
I agree.
*I'm not saying the goalies don't need to be better, because they do. Imho, though, the rest of the team needs more improvement than the goalies.

Hayes is fine even if I agree overpaid and too long term
But at least he is no defensive liability and also tries things in offensive zone
Without a proper sniper it doesn't help much - goenzoy
I do not think this is a true statement |

You haven't ever called them out for THEIR stupid. Ever. You are a champion of the team management, not the team. Otherwise you would be fighting for change and improvement, not making excuses and minimizing the suck...

I was talking from his contract and what you get for the money
Not any specifics to his play
Not a single player played in March up to expected standard - goenzoy
So you are saying that Hayes is performing up to his contract? That is mind boogling if you are saying that |

I was thinking world's largest enema, but maybe try your idea first. Less messy.

They really need to start poaching players with a winning pedigree that doesn't want to go back to losing. |

The prospect farm...the number of young players has increased in both talent and quantity. The top age of that change is about 24 and the bottom is 18.

I used to hit New Orleans back n the 60's and in particular after 4 AM (or is that before 8AM) a bar on Canal near the river. It was a dive bar (such a surprise) the place was clean because every surface was hard and impervious to water. They had a couple of lock boxes to store the hooch.
When they closed for an hour a day. They would shut the boxes, open the front door and run a hose to flush every surface clean. Fast and efficient. It made the place the least scummy bar, at least to touch, down at the dock.
It was flushing out everything that didn't have a purpose.
Formica and glass aren't a substitute for a NHL franchise. Neither is this team.
Get the hoses!

A franchise history worst GA/GAA for one month was pretty improbable. Back in Jan 1993 -- still a very high-scoring era in the NHL -- Flyers weren't even close to the worst GAA in the league with their 4.40 GAA for the month. A couple clubs were over 5.00 that month.
Back then, a 4.41 GAA for a month was really bad but not astounding. For this era, it's staggering and inexcusable regardless of the schedule, COVID and other issues. - bmeltzer
Charlie O'Conner cites Evolving Hockey as determining Goal Saved Above Expectations were -34.2 for the month. That's atrocious. Perhaps the goaltending is a small part of the problem and not all due to Myers and Ghost... |

How many years?
IMO no way he takes that amount. We shall see. - login
I think he will get around three. Could see a two year deal just due to flat cap. Maybe 3 years. More term I think the price goes up a little. |

I think pre-covid, AV had this team playing the right way.
Now I think this team (at least enough of them that it has caused the entire team to spirl out of control), playing in a covid environment has lost the interest in playing hockey. No changes you make are going to change that. This season needs to end and they need a reboot. |

It is certainly not the only change. If you want me to think on it, I’m sure to find some small stuff. Yes, the youth is the big change, and I think it is a dramatic improvement.

This is his shot at a big deal to cash in imo. Unless he bets on himself and takes a 1 year deal. |
