I didn't notice him out there. Did you? - MJL
Long enough to witness yet again him playing solely on the perimeter and not in the mix. |

The Flyers are not going to trade Giroux. - MJL
Why wouldn't they?
And this isn't a hate giroux or trade everyone post. If your looking at your team and looking down the line it makes sense in a way. His deal is done when Couturiers deal is complete so the timing adds up since 14 will be getting a bump.
He's only got another another year so if you retain salary, Giroux at 50% retained is a nice piece for a team trying to win right now.
Or do you think they just let him ride out the remainder of the deal and figure it out then? |

First of all it is not all on the players. It is mostly on the players for sure but the coaching staff deserves their share of the blame.
I don't recall where you stood, but this fanbase was overwhelmingly in favor of bringing in free agents and making the team better. They were tired of waiting. How long does a rebuild take. I read some posting that Hextall's plan has failed. Hextall's plan hasn't failed. The current regimes plan has failed. I didn't want the Flyers to sign a player long term. Though I also said if they did, Hayes was the player that I preferred. They got rid of the action bias of the previous GM and the previous coach who was the problem. Here we sit. - MJL
Can you share what the currents regimes plan is by the way? And how has it failed?

Honestly, why wouldn't they is not really not a question that needs answering. The only way I see that happening is if they can't reach a fair and reasonable deal for an extension.

Laughton and Raffl as well - goenzoy
Laughton and Raffl as rentals wouldn't be worth much. Maybe a 3rd round pick for Laughton, Raffl 5th or 6th round. |

All the people saying it's time to sell, the only players on this roster that have any value are Couturier, Provorov, Farabee.
Outside of that it's a combination of veterans with bad contracts, players with NMC, or struggling young players you'd be trading for pennies on the dollar.
It's an absolute dumpster fire. With Fletcher's track record, no one should be confident in him improving things. - PLindbergh31
You can move raffle Braun and hagg for mid rd picks imo. Laughton will have good value. So those 4 are who I look to move. For now. |

Are you saying that Hayes current level of play and for this season as a whole is not a problem?
Are you seriously saying that the worst month of Flyers hockey arguably in my lifetime is just being magnified due to the shorten season? - MJL
His play has been an issue. But the signing wasn't in my eyes. Especially when you don't know what depth you have at center with Patrick and Frost.
And yes I am saying it is magnified due to a shorten season. Has it been good, no. But this team had times of going on ten game winless streaks in the past where we thought it was the worst hockey ever, they just had more games to rebound. |

provide what your fair and reasonable deal is for an extension. You keep saying it yet never provide a number. Amazing you want to keep this same group together. The definition of insanity. |

I actually think Laughton could get you more. Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow got pretty good returns. I think he kind of fits that mold for a playoff team. Versatile role player who can kill penalties. Both those guys got first rounders in deals for the Devils and Sharks. |

I said that I think the team ideally need to both a seller and buyer, as they were in 2007, if they can do that. It's not for this season. It's to be a better team next year and beyond. Fletcher was correct in saying the mix isn't right.
I'm not the Flyers' "champion". I criticize as needed but I am not a big fan of hyperbole. The month of March was atrocious on an historical level. Things have gone so far off the rails that the team may have buried itself for the season. Full stop.
That said, they entered March at 11-4-3, riding a three-game winning streak. They were NOT playing as well as their record would suggest, but it was still fixable andt the Flyers were in pretty good shape in the standings. What went on in March is unacceptable and may not be fixable this season. - bmeltzer Bill its not hyperbole if its true, and as you say this month the Flyers were abominable. They were winning up till March, but still something wasn't quite right. Shaky passes, turnovers at bad times and places on the ice, that ridiculous shots for and against stat. All of that foretold what was to happen. They were winning on inertia till March. In your capacity you say what you see...us fans scream and yell and get all emotional. That's what a fanatic does

I move them all. Time for a lot of fresh faces and players imo.
Curious what would you give Laughton to resign here? |

*shrugs*
I would think it would be the opposite, if the Flyers re-signed him they would want to protect him. Personally I see him walking to get out of this mess and he is going to be a great addition to a team, especially if it's a solid team already. |

Do we really need to resign Claude Giroux at that time? I am not a hate on him. I actually can't stand Voracek and would love to see him moved but I know his deal makes that very tough. how long has Giroux been captain? It's not all on him but doesn't there need to be some change moving forward? |

I think we all questioned the JVR move to some extent. I have to say he has been only a very small part of the blame this season. Back when we had the big holes at top right D and 2C, I was for getting veterans for our young guys to grow without having to carry the team alone. I wanted a long term vet for top RHD and a stopgap at center.
Instead, they did the reverse. It isn’t anything personal against Niskanen or Hayes, and last season, it certainly looked like it was working. We will never know what would have happened if they did the reverse.
As for the coaching staff, I wasn’t sold on the decision to go with AV almost 2 years ago now...matter of fact, my ending thoughts from that day are haunting now.
I still root for Fletcher. What choice do I have? I want the Flyers to be successful. I want the Flyers to win. This month has been historically rough on an already bruised and beat up fan base. Please tell me someone in Flyers management truly understands this.

I do not. Agree it isnt hate just time to turn the page.
Boston had no issue letting Chara walk who is a bigger icon than Clode. |
