Agreed. ANd that is at least a somewhat realistic scenario that I hope comes to fruition. Seattle is gonna have to take a couple of high priced players to get to the cap floor. But I suspect they will have better options than JVR for that role, as the majority of the league will likely be exposing at least one player due to cap considerations. Flyers aren't the only ones that will be looking to unload decent players with rough contracts onto Seattle. - Big_E_88
So very true, but not many that could fill the same role as JvR, especially as a PP net presence which could be a very solid selling aspect (ala James Neal).
It was brought up earlier that some would rather have Voracek taken instead of JvR, but scoring goals tends to be more attractive than puck possession and vision. |

I think Fletcher gets to show the fan base that he is trying to make moves, by no one claiming Ghost it shows that the trade market is what he said it was. Teams don't want salary and term. The CAP is one thing but teams also are in the business to make money. If nothing else the players know what the market looks like right now.
I don't mind Fletcher doing it, I don't mind him sending a message. I guess the only trade route is picks, prospects and trading good value for good value, salary dump is a thing of the past. - wcorvette
They don't want that for shall we say not so good players!!!
I wonder if he clears to they try to move him by eating money or taking back an equal contract for another teams Ghost type player. |

Yeah it was definitely a lot of fun when we were younger, especially looking back. We used to have some heated battles, but I miss those times. Getting old sucks!

Still dont see any logic in this move apart from saving a bit of money
For me it looks more like a GM move to convince the fanbase that he is doing something in the background with really not doing anything because nothing is possible

funny I don't even look at the other boards but I just did, very different from my brief look. It is an easy read, I didn't see any comments that looked like novels or pages of 1 v 1 Richard contests. Overall, pretty boring - wcorvette
We should put PT21 on waivers so one of the other boards can claim him. After all, those boards could use an arrogant windbag with an inferiority complex like him on their team to stir the pot. Why do we have to be the only ones that suffer through it? |

The only issue I have is Ghost seems like the fragile type....he had been better of late...no great but improved over last year...let’s hope this doesn’t send him backwards in his progression , minor as it has been. - landros 2
That has crossed my mind. Ghosts whole game is based on his self confidence (just like many athletes).
I think its going to be weird having him on the ice tonight. He SHOULD be playing. If they have Gus or Prosser in over him tonight not only is it a bad roster decision as you weaken an already fragile team on the ice, but it also shows me this team is giving up by not icing the best team possible.

I know most people here hate Ghost but this waiving him just doesn't sit right with me.
Regardless of the real reason, the optics look like he is a scapegoat and the team is using him as punishment when there are plenty of other players who are way more culpable. Voracek being #1 in my eyes.
I understand its a business. - MBFlyerfan
If there is not a pending trade then I agree. It's roster mismanagement if you ask me. Waive a player you actually need to send a message. There are other ways of doing that. The Flyers need Gostisbehere's puck skills in the lineup. Yea, they can play Gustafsson, who is just as good offensively but is worse defensively. Have to let it play out and see what happens. All I know is that in my opinion, Fletcher is badly misreading his team if he is still a buyer.

Why does everyone wanna waive JVR? He’s overpaid but he’s been a bright spot. G and Jake need to leave. |

Elliot gives up poopty goals every game that an NHL goalie should be stopping. Those types of goals just deflate a team. - login
enough blame to go around. Goal tending saved their asses in the beginning of the season, eventually it all caught up.
My nic for this team is TI aka TAP IN, I have never seen so many tap in goals or goals where the goalie had no chance. That eventually caught up and the goalies now are gun shy. |

There should never have been a message to send Monday in the first place. It should never have to come to tell your vets to kick in overdrive to beat a 6 win team.
I doubt Ghost's waive is a message. I don't know what exactly in the grand scheme of things I just hope this isn't a move to be a buyer at the deadline.
I understand wanting to win and get in the playoffs, I just feel Fletcher and company need to think of a bigger picture here. |

I still don't get the sending a message angle, but...maybe he is just throwing some poop at the wall and hoping it gets claimed meanwhile making cap space. If it doesn't then he is in exactly the same spot. |

Yeah if waiving Ghost was a "message" in any form, we know 100% where the problem lies in the organization.
If Ghost is unclaimed and plays tonight...the only thought is 30 teams in the NHL could have you for FREE and passed. There is no it's more complicated...they said NO THANK YOU. - Glak18
Bill wrote in his blog if he is not claimed what the reason is. It's not because of his level of play.

I think Hart will get his game back and Elliott is showing signs that he's improving, too. I'm comfortable letting them work it out. I don't think the goaltending position is where player moves are needed. - Scoob
agree. even if he is an upgrade, he's not a significant one. and the team defense is atrocious. that's where they need help. |

All 3 do. I know JVR is having one of his best seasons in orange and black, but we all know how streaky he is.
End of the day for me, Flyers are spending 7-8 million on these guys and getting 2 million dollar results. |

Fletch is in a no-win situation, for sure. If he does nothing to improve the current roster, he’ll get fried by many. Same thing will happen if he’s active on or before the deadline and they don’t make the playoffs. There’s no quick fix, especially for an organization that severely overrated the roster coming into this season. |

If there was a pending trade then why embarrass a player publicly by waiving him a day after he played 19 plus minutes and was on the ice for the game tying goal? Why waive him at all if there is a trade? Why risk him being claimed for nothing as unlikely as that apparently may be?
And I agree there is no way this team should be in buy mode. That reeks of Dave Scott Tissue for brains. |

Logic is create 4.5 in cap space to better use on a player that fits what your trying to accomplish. That show I see it. |

Ghost isn't worth 4.5, so yes in a way it is his level of play. |
