Elliot was fine last season backing up Hart, when Hart was playing well. Hell, he's been ok this year too. At this point in his career, I don't think you want Elliot starting 40% of the games. Even if he could, that indicates Hart isn't playing well or is injured, which would be an even larger issue!
- aantny88

Last season is just that; both have been putrid this year.

The only argument I have ever heard was Ghost had 65 points once and that makes him elite...
- Glak18

His main value is at the bluelines -- gaining and exiting w/ possession. Areas that the Flyers have historically struggled with.

The points are nice, the gaffes are not. People who only dwell on those two aspects of Ghost are missing the bigger picture.

Brian Lawton tweeted that expectation is Gostisbehere goes unclaimed today. So seems everyone worried about nothing

Which vet cold exactly be the waiving message be targeted to? And what is the threat? You could be waived too?

Jake? If I am him and that's a threat, I lmao. He might as well have a NMC with that contract. No one is picking him up.
JVR? One of the few bright spots. However has 8 games without a goal. But I still see effort and sound play from him.
TK? That is silly.
Elliott? Also silly.
Hayes has a NMC

and so on.

I think Hart will get his game back and Elliott is showing signs that he's improving, too. I'm comfortable letting them work it out. I don't think the goaltending position is where player moves are needed.

Hart may get his game back; could be a week to 6 months from now or never. Elliot just isn't that good. You see the constant weak goals he gives up.

If the GM is getting a mandate from above the goaltending needs to be improved. Therefore cant wait for Hart this season if you want to try to make the playoffs.

Baffling to me that you would think those 2 right now are a better option than Bernier. Though we all have our own opinion.

I think Fletcher gets to show the fan base that he is trying to make moves, by no one claiming Ghost it shows that the trade market is what he said it was. Teams don't want salary and term. The CAP is one thing but teams also are in the business to make money. If nothing else the players know what the market looks like right now.

I don't mind Fletcher doing it, I don't mind him sending a message. I guess the only trade route is picks, prospects and trading good value for good value, salary dump is a thing of the past.

Hart needs to work through some things but I agree, he will come out on the other side.

bite, meaning pass on Ghost and then call the Flyers and ask them to eat salary and add a sweetener?

Hart has been putrid, I agree. Elliott hasn't been anywhere near as bad. SV% is .869 for Hart and .893 for Elliot. One is close to respectable, the other isn't.

I personally think that a change of scenery would be good for Ghost. He was electrifying when he debuted in Philly with no pressure or expectations. I would love see him end up on a rebuilding team like Detroit or LA, where he could find his swagger again.

I know most people here hate Ghost but this waiving him just doesn't sit right with me.

Regardless of the real reason, the optics look like he is a scapegoat and the team is using him as punishment when there are plenty of other players who are way more culpable. Voracek being #1 in my eyes.

I understand its a business.

Still hoping he gets claimed and think for the Flyers it would help them out greatly in the future.

Ghost -> Claimed...4.5m off the cap for 2 years

JvR -> the possibility getting selected for the expansion draft is good...7m off the cap for 2 years

The Flyers don't have any RFA's that deserve any substantial raise so the cap space they have is plenty to deal internally. You can do a lot with 11.5m for the next 2 years, whether it is 1 or 2 UFAs or room to make trades.

- Glak18

Agreed. ANd that is at least a somewhat realistic scenario that I hope comes to fruition. Seattle is gonna have to take a couple of high priced players to get to the cap floor. But I suspect they will have better options than JVR for that role, as the majority of the league will likely be exposing at least one player due to cap considerations. Flyers aren't the only ones that will be looking to unload decent players with rough contracts onto Seattle.

Elliot gives up poopty goals every game that an NHL goalie should be stopping. Those types of goals just deflate a team.

Have to take the good with the bad, though I think it's stupid Ghost isn't on PP1. Defenseman that are great in all areas of the ice are a very rare breed. Not sure the Flyers have one yet, but there is potential if Provy, Sanheim and Myers become more consistent.

Not denying that, simply stated that Hart has been much worse. Trust me I understand how stoppable goals are deflating, as my brother has been the goalie for my men's league teams on many occasions. I'm ready to kill him when he lets in garbage goals from unscreened, stoppable shots and I know we have to score another one because of his boneheaded play!

The only issue I have is Ghost seems like the fragile type....he had been better of late...no great but improved over last year...let’s hope this doesn’t send him backwards in his progression , minor as it has been.
