Its a bit more than that. Its not just easier.

You essentially never win without superstars in certain positions. And those winning superstars almost always come from high picks.

Does that make it a bit more worthy of ink spilled?

unless you can find a Bergeron, Kopitar, Marchand, ROR, Point, Letang, John Carlson, Quick, Binnington, Kucherov sorry I have to step away, I am sure there are more

His view is pretty depressing. In real life, I would avoid him and he, very likely, would never notice me. I need to find a way to make that happen for me on Flyerbuzz.
- NC Flyers Fan

I don't find it depressing because he is simply wrong. No matter how much empirical evidence is presented to him. Any evidence that refutes his premise, he finds a way to dismiss it. Yet claims to be open minded to being wrong. If you present an argument that he can't find a way out of. He'll just call you stupid and a name. Even though he claims he doesn't do that.

It's also not tanking. It's also not semantics. A few moves don't add up to tanking. It's a collective decision. We are purposely not going to try and be competitive this season. We are purposely going to field a non-competitive team. That is tanking.
- MJL

I guess to clarify that for me a bit, how many moves would need to add up until you called it a collective decision? Assuming for arguments sake there isn’t some smoking gun memo circulated between the higher ups detailing their wink and nod to suck on purpose. Like I said, most organizations aren’t going to turn it into a rallying cry like the sixers. Take away how brash they were, and isnt it all just a series of moves? I’m not trying to play the jerk off game, I’m just curious as to where you see it morphing from asset management to okay clearly the present means nothing the eye is solely on the future.

Haha never said it wasn’t worthy ink in the first place pal. I guess my point is, you can’t argue something as a certainty while simultaneously using words like almost and essentially. Rather than prove the point they provide the platform for the existence of an alternative.
- stayinthefnnet

I giggled about this one.

Do you mean on the Internet? Or logically? Because you are, after all, a lawyer whose profession rests on a burden of proof beyond reasonable doubt.

The almost and essentially were not verbal fig leafs. They were in the 90%+ probability range.

The gory thesis is laid on page 13, with almost lawyerly meticulousness, on middle of page (post at 5:20 PM)

The reason for making the decision in making trades for future assets is not to purposely and intentionally field a non competitive team. It's to try and make the team better in the future. The motivation is genuine. It's pretty obvious when a team is tanking.

Yeah, I would much rather you actually deal with the substance, since you challenged it.

Infantile digs tend to be, well, infantile, and we have a plethora of personas here fulfilling that role handsomely.

Lawyerly meticulousness does not include the numerous and obvious errors in that post.

No you haven't addressed it. It's been proven that you don't have to draft in the top 5 to get a star player.

Yikes. There’s your contingency plan for no one claiming Ghost.

Total waste of a ELC year if you ask me.

I am very tall, so if you are very short, this could happen, else its unlikely.

But you should note however how this exchange started. Here are your words:

"The silly narrative being pushed about needing to draft high for a better chance and that attitude that the grass is always greener in the other teams farm system is incorrect."

Obviously, I responded. You were not just directly responding to me, you began by calling my thesis silly, not to say that I never said what you posted above.

However, I can put you in the MJL basket if you so desire and ignore provocations or just skip posts from you, without malice, if you so wish.

Yeah why rush. If anything I would like him to play in ahl. They are rolling and that may be worth the experience. If they are playing him in the nhl. I’m not sure I’m on board with that.

He may have made a demand for signing. Who knows. Unless something has changed. They could've signed him to an ATO so he can play with the Phantoms. Perhaps there is some rule for college players I'm not aware of.
