Yes, you can: “Additionally, a player and team may mutually agree to terminate a contract at any time. This process can only be completed if the player clears unconditional waivers.” (Wiki)

Anyway, Lindholm, B. Morrison and Q are the obvious choices to give away for a bag of pucks if need be quickly. - stonefire
Teams and the NHLPA both frown on that route. Its rarely used unless a team is trying to do someone a favor and see if they can catch on with another team for a better opportunity. |

Van just signed Demko 5×5. Holtby is now a target for the Hawks cap space. - mohel
Yeah, but then we have to watch Holtby stink up the place next year and the rest of this season. He has been in decline for 4 seasons. The Caps were able to outscore his goaltending in their Cup year |

There is nothing on CF that Krutil has signed an ELC. - Elbows15
If I understand correctly, Krutil signed standard AHL contract after his try-out and if he didn’t, he would either have to join Kelowna once WHL started, or return to Europe (probably back to Litoměřice in Czech 2nd tier). Uncertainity over CHL forced the issue, I guess. |

He can play in Rockford, where only Eli has to watch.
That cap space is for the Hawks to get paid to acquire and hide dogs. |

Sorry, that's my error. Thanks for catching that.
Krutil was signed to an AHL contract after being on an ATO. So with that correction, the Hawks did good with signing Phillips first to an ELC before Krutil (both are 2020 draft picks). |

I thought he signed an AHL contract for this year. I think he would not be able to go to the W next year since he had a pro contract.
Does Phillips have to go to the OHL next year if he doesn't make CHI? - totem
I don't think so. He will be 20 by the time next season starts. |

I believe that was the case with Seeler. He didn't want to report to Rockford so both parties agreed to terminate his contract so he could pursue a job elsewhere.
From what I can gather, he hasn't signed anywhere, not even overseas.

Sure, often when the player prefers Europe over AHL/ECHL and nobody cares about loans and/or keeping rights (another example is Filip Chlapík in Ottawa recently).
I also remember a player having his contract terminated this way for being out of shape at the beginning of training camp, Jake Dotchin in Tampa (thanks, Google). |

JC will play him. I am all for getting more picks but the Canucks aren't going anywhere this season. So, not sure there is any urgency for them to give up a 1st to get rid of him. They are in decent shape for next season, too. Their only crucial RFA is Gaudette. |

He's just an example. And I didn't say a 1st. I think they have Pettersson and Hughes, too. |

Missed them. Pettersen is on LTIR at the moment. Didn't scroll down far enough.
I said a 1st because that is the only way I would take on that contract. What is the point otherwise? Hawks could use that 5M/6M in a different area. |

Sell if it is a hockey deal or financial deal that makes sense. No rush to move Soderberg or Janmark unless there is a decent return. deHaan is another story. - Ztra
Agreed, the more i watch Soda and Janmark I'm fine with getting some kind of quality prospect or quality draft pick for them, they have faded down the stretch like many players on this team have
deHaan is getting worse by the game sad to say |

Which surprises me why the Canucks paid so much for Demko
(frank), how much is Lanky going to cost us if he keeps performing the way he is |

It's unfortunate that de Haan has fallen off as much as he has. I actually think Janmark and Soderberg are playing the exact same as they have been. They are just middle six guys. |

Stan to Van: I'll take Loui and Holtby off your hands. Gives you $9M to resign your guys and add a bit to your roster. Your fans are getting tired of waiting... Throw me a #1 and a #3 and you can have it all.

They both have no trade clauses, Stan should ask for more. |
