Was at Queens park watching my nephew play for the nw Bruins against Spokane and a line brawl broke out. As the players started pairing up, Gaetz was looking for a partner and the only one left was my nephew, he’s 5’-10”. Wasn’t much of a fight but something I’ll remember forever.

Flames haven’t been the same since that player only meeting. I blame leadership for this season, starts with Treliving and goes down to Giordano, Ryan and Lucic. Flames will continue to disappoint us until the dressing room is fixed. Ship out the rotten apples no matter who they might be.

When I asked him after the game what was going through his mind? He said hold on and try not to bleed.

The Sabres OWNERSHIP legit thought they were cup contenders.
There was no tank.

They are just legit bad this year.

Ok... devils advocate. Ship out and to whom?

One of the problems with this franchise has been the hope that a blip translates to something to build on. Bennett is a prime example, he should have been traded in the off-season based on his playoff performance. We had seen (and in theory Flames management) what he is and is not in his time here.

Good business is sell high. We are "selling" low and not from a position of strength. Go up and down the line up and be honest about what we have. This season is particularly bad but we have been in 'try before you buy' mode with this core for at least 3 years. We aren't a bad team, just not a good one.

I see Gaudreau thriving when he's not the "franchise" player. Our top line is a 2nd on most (good teams). This team doesn't need to be blown up, it needs to be re-tooled. Sutter hockey will dictate that. The draft will dictate what happens with trades in the off season and bubble teams will dictate the value of this roster in trades before the deadline...

I still maintain years later that Bennett should have been dealt (whether part of a package or whatever) to get Hoffman. Top 6 with be pretty ridiculous from a talent perspective, makes our top 9 better as a result and you could really cut the bottom line minutes moreso than you can today. Though Hoffman hasn't been his usual self this year... would be a great fit with Mony and Johnny.

Fully agree that Bennett should have been moved by now. That he can only get up for playoff games is just so disappointing. Everyone in the league knows it too.

I don’t know who they ship out, but whoever is the problem in the dressing room. Somehow they have to change the dynamics of the team, right now to me it seems it’s not a cohesive bunch but a group of individuals. Team chemistry goes a long way and lack of it can destroy any group. If I was in the dressing room, I’d know more about what’s going on, but I’m not.
I’ve run our men’s team, and had to kick our best player off the team. He was a big Richard, Daryle Sydors cousin, our leading scorer, but a cancer in the dressing room. You can’t tell me that anyone close to the Flames doesn’t know what’s going on.
As for Bennett you’re probably right, but a one for one for DeBrusk is probably a fair trade for both teams. Johnny is our best player but will he really thrive in a Sutter system?
I don’t claim to have the answers. I’ve played a lot of team sports in my lifetime and know if you have players that actually care about each other it usually translates into a good team.one thing for sure though is they can’t continue with this group.

Not sure why Boston seems intent on moving Debrusk... I think it would take more than Bennett to get him though just based on production between the two.

I do agree with the locker room issue and am of the opinion that you're either on the Chucky train of being engaged physically or you're not. My ideal identity for the team is to have more Chucky's rather than less and would cull those who don't fit that identity. Outsiders view - that's Mony/Johnny and maybe Gio.

Flames need the two ligit pillars that most teams build around. A legit 1C and a legit 1D. Flames have neither, and until they do we as fans should not expect more than we have had for the last 30 years.

So you'd ship Chucky if he was an issue in the room?

Not sure you blow it up but go after that legit center. If we keep playing the way we are, we could end up drafting that #1 defenseman.
Playing just good enough to mess up your draft position seems like the team moto for 20 years. This teams highest draft 4oa was used to take 18 year old Sam Bennett and look where he is today. Can’t believe in 40 years that’s the highest this team has drafted.
Fuking Edmonton has wasted more higher picks.

Blowing it up isn't the answer but what do we realistically expect as a return for any of these guys? I still think we could get a decent return for JG but a #1 center? not likely. This year, between covid and expansion and the fact most draft eligible players, haven't played makes the draft kind of a crap shoot. Unless a team sees something and is willing to give up more than expected, I see sweet f-all happening in the next two weeks. This summer will be a different story I think...

Agreed. Also, Treliving doesn’t trade core players during the season. We’ll likely see a move at the draft and a move at the expansion draft.
