Bennett needs a change of scenery & this TDL is best opportunity to get best value, end of season wont cut it as Flames will have to a qualifying offer so lose a lot of leverage with another team who may want him for playoffs is too great.

Monahan has 2 more years after this & could be involved in a real hockey trade during summer where a decent player comes back, not just for picks.

Gio may not be protected & maybe TDL is the time to get max return, again not a sign of blowing up versus proper asset management.

Pieces like Lindholm, Tkachuk, Magpie, (Sutter likes centres like Backlund) Dube are capable of putting a properly built team into playoffs. especially if Markstrom gets his sh!t together next year.

I dont think you can ever have enough D in your system as precious few go on to make an impact in the NHL.
He is eligible to play in the WJC again next year so i would expect the Flames to allow him to play again and continue to develop.
