Any NCAA players linked to Pens? Since we’ve got very picks, this seems to be a strategy to consider. Just curious - pghbirdman
Alex Steeves (forward), Matt Kiersted (defence), Strauss Mann (goalie) imo are top at each position. Any player signed before April 12th can play in the playoffs. Some players have already signed, Josh Dunne-jackets, mike hardman-blackhawks, Jordan kawaguchi-stars. Leafs signed Steeves is a top prospect for unsigned college players.
Hopefully the pens will be in on Marc Mclaughlin as I think he could possibly play this season. Mclaughlin is 6’1” 210 pound 21 year old right handed center.
Ghost going unclaimed cannot be good for Pettersson's trade value. Though he is younger, "bigger", and better defensively.
If he can fetch Dustin Brown... I say do it. But the best play may be to stand pat and trade Pettersson in the off-season. Could always trade a 4th or whatever for Glendening just to avoid any thought of using Jankowski in the postseason.

I don't think there's any correlation to that. Teams are cash-strapped right now since there's such little revenue, so taking on salary like that with a contract isn't so simple. I'd think teams would need to be sending at least some salary back if they're going to take him.

Contracts signed play a big part in waivers. I think 16ish teams have 47 or more of the 50 contracts used. I think 3 or 4 have 49 contracts already signed so that limits trading and also limits being able to sign college or international free agents. As well as some teams are payroll restricted this season without sending anything money out.

Do you know how hard it is to find a team, even non-cap teams, that can just absorb a $4 + mil cap hit in the middle of the season? The reason why guys like Ghost, T. Johnson, and Gardner go unclaimed is because teams pretty much have to send salary the other way to be able to take them on.

A lot of examples were brought up in the hockey academy course I took about all the downsides of claiming players off waivers with very minimal upside. “Mysterious” injuries, contracts, character, signings, salary cap, payroll, trading etc.
A big downfall that was noted was taking on cap and salary before the trade deadline for nothing. If someone takes on ghost @ >5mill cap now they might not be able or allowed to take on another 5 mill at the deadline to get an extra high pick from a cap strapped team.

I mean I get it... but there's usually a handful of teams with butt loads of LTIR by this time of year.
Either way... still feel like we're overestimating Dragon's value.

The problem with LTIR is those players come back. It's not like Ghost is a pending UFA. He has term left, so that makes things very complicated when those players come back.

LTIR money isnt magic free cap, you have to have space for guys to come back. Holding guys out until the playoffs once they go on LTIR to facilitate acquisitions like Kane a few years ago isn’t common, and no one does it if the time table for return isn’t super close to the playoffs anyways for it to be negligible.
Ha ha, actually...no. It's extremely enjoyable watching them go down like the Hindenburg. I want more flames. Maybe throw some gasoline on it just for the fun of it.

Seeing highlights of the Avs game from last night... their coach is an idiot (and players for that matter) are idiots. Up 8-3 with 5 minutes left and you send Mackinnons line out there and they are actually forechecking and trying to score.
Then Mackinnon gets into it in the corner and rips a guys helmet off and tosses it in his face.
I am telling you, two teams, the Oilers and the Avs will not win a Stanley Cup. The stats are deceiving... burying a bad team by 5 goals and putting up a poopload of points isn't better than winning by 3 and having your guys just relax and stay healthy. These guys are notorious for it.

Yeah must suck to have a bunch of guys that try hard all the time. Lol how many times have people ripped on stacked teams for doing exactly what you said and just going through the motion and cruising through wins? Narrative is always “this team’s in for a rude awakening once the playoffs start and the intensity gets dialed up”. None of this poop matters. They either will win or they won’t, whether they’re sitting on two/three goal leads or trying to murder teams down the stretch.

Yup. If I was pitts coach I’d let the lower lines play more in the 3rd period of a blowout but I’d expect every shift of every game to be full effort.
