The reason I can watch this and laugh through the entire thing is the same reason I can watch the same episode of The Simpsons 20 times and laugh all the way through it.
Meh. It is what it is. |

I'll give them props - I first thought it was real footage, with fake commentary.
It was well done. |

Lot of dissection of how sloppy and "too cute" Toronto's powerplay has been lately in the intermission.
TOR's per 60s in their 1-for-28 run:
Attempts: 1st
Unblocked Attempts: 1st
Shots on Goal: 5th
Expected Goals: 1st
Scoring Chances: 1st
Dangerous Chances: 1st
Shooting %: 28th
huh, I would not have thought the Leafs PP was generating much.
one of those feelings dont reflect the actual stats. but yeah, results shape feelings

Maybe? It's a pretty dumb question when you consider the career and some of the games he's had. 2 goals and a talent show goal are probably in the top-15. - Monkeypunk

Erik Karlsson seems like an arrogant female genitalia who is lucky he signed his big deal and was unfortunate to get decimated by injuries. |

Hrm. This is the type of stat that makes me question the value of this data. We've all watched these power plays. They sometimes get off a good chance, and have been robbed maybe 4-5 times in the past 8 (EIGHT!) games.
I'm not sure all those dangerous chances are that dangerous. A lot of the most fantastic chances have been thrown over the net or into posts.
My opinion, for what little it's worth: they are moving the puck well if or once they gain the zone, but there isn't always enough urgency. There isn't enough commotion in front. There isn't enough side-to-side movement forcing large goalie movement in response. I would imagine that a lot of the high danger chances are low opportunity chances from short distance in front, where any goalie who can close the bottom of the net is going to stop a whack or two. Side-to-side works better than the jam play.
Having an uninjured Matthews with a cannon of a shot makes that power play lethal because it changes the entire dynamic for everyone. Without a big shot and without putting bodies in front, it's not that they're predictable, but is is that the "high danger" chances aren't that dangerous.

The moustache confirms the first part of the theory. If you're not on a penny-farthing, you don't get to have that moustache.

I was wondering if the Leafs should pick up Ghost, and then deal Dermott.
Then I saw Ghost's salary - $4.5M cap hit, and decided we don't want him.
And then I looked at Dermott's output - 1 goal and 1 assist in 31 games, and realized we couldn't give him away anyways.
What the frank is up with Dermott? If he isn't a puck-moving defenceman, what the hell is he? - Atomic Wedgie
3rd pairing d man with upside.
Upside that likely wont be reached but upside nonetheless. |

Adding a goalie like Bernier, who is playing on a horrible team, and putting up above average numbers, I think, would be better than a Reimer playing on a good team with below average numbers. Sure he has more wins, but that’s more the team in front of him. Yes, he has a slightly higher GAA but his save% is 11 points higher. If they retain half his salary, he would only be $1.5 mil. - currphij
You need to read this in the voice of Morgan Freeman....
"And poof, just like that he reignited the fire many thought had died years ago, the Bernier vs Reimer Debate, lord help us all"

Leafs will never be rid of Marincin. He's like Rasputin. He keeps coming back. 😉 - gergeswillems
Same story I've been preaching. One would think that there has got to be a better option on at least one frikkin' team in the league. |

That guy is making annual bonus after bonus for literally going into every year with some new name for "get the puck to Ovie for the one timer".

Now we laugh at that.
But after the 10th year, I'm sure he needed alot of originality for it.

So apparently he's never scored a hat trick in the NHL, so the reporter was trying to say that two goals in the game plus the shootout winner is kinda a hat trick.
It was awkwardly worded, but at the end of the day it was a softball question.
Karlsson could have graciously rolled out the cliched bullpoop that every hockey player can say on cue:
"Well, I don't know where it ranks, but I'm just happy to get the win. It's easy to contribute offensively when my teammates are playing well. I'm just looking to contribute."
But know, the pirate had to be an arsehole instead.
