Not sure how they failed the teachers?
Also, Canada didnt have the ability to produce the vaccine, as ridiculous as that sounds.
Building one in north york now. - Fakepartofme
Above re teachers.
Canada had production facilities that could have been leveraged. Instead we started from scratch and are now way behind already... and I still don't believe they will produce mRNA vaccines. I have also read, more than once, that we could have had new facilities in place by now, but we CHOSE to not go down that road, which is really a failure in negotiation with big pharma. People love to say "it takes years"... this makes less than zero sense and many people dispute that. The world developed tested, and innoculated millions of people in under a year.
Again, I am not going to argue this, so don't bother. Go read. The information is out there. |

I am not going to argue so I will give you highlights and leave it at that.
1) Zero or wholly insufficient training for teachers to suddenly switch to remote learning from home, while their own kids are home suddenly also.
2) Setting out social distancing guidelines for society that cannot possibly be adhered to in the school room, and yet, the teachers performing an absolutely critical function are not vaccinated the same time as front line health care.
3) Recognizing the need for a reduction in class size, but not giving any reasonable funding to achieve this, at all.
4) Postponing March break because they did not want people to travel or congregate. Now they are even discussing about postponing again?
Bottom line is that teacher's have been impacted as heavily as any other group, including front-line health care, and have received virtually zero support. - Aetherial
I work in the schools, classes jammed and kids rarely wearing their masks.
It’s brutal. |

There was never any option to manufacture vaccines in Canada. There are no facilitiesd.
City of Toronto put out a news release today - Sanofi going to create a vaccine facility.
It will be operational in 2026. - Atomic Wedgie
Russians (ok Frenchie, pick anyone) launch missiles.
“We should make some missiles.” Lots of mistakes made and maybe we should have invested in this technology or infrastructure.
Canada is in reasonable shape in R&D and innovation internationally. The reality is that investments went in different areas. Now that we really want this, everybody is sure this is where the investments should have gone. It now seems pretty obvious that there is both a technology and a national security rationale for developing capacity to secure what we need. Is that building systems to make it? Can we? I don’t know given pace of change

Thought we may get to see 35
Hopefully Campbell is 100% but he winced again last game so I’m not too sure we should be playing him if he’s the future. - annoyed
Really hope we get to see 35 at some point soon. Could be the guy that will save us trading for. Carrying a weight of 183 lbs. Should be quite mobile in the crease.
Didn't realize Freddy weighs in at 238 lbs.Doesn't look that big |

Theyve been impacted, sure.
Nowhere near close to healcare wprkers. Not even close.
Lots of people have been impacted by this who haven't received alot of support from their companies. The teachers arent the only ones.
Sure the online schooling was a bit of a cluster f for a while...but it slowly came together and the teachers barely graded anyyhing.
Who cares about postponing march break.
Not providing funding for reduced class sizes is the biggest gap by the province. This has been long overdue. Class sizes are too big. But maybe not having the teachers constantly strike for more money/rollover vacation time could have helped with that. |

They should have been vaccinated after the healthcare workers imo.
The roll out is much too slow. |

The 1.5M doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine were supposed to help.. Too bad that the side effects of the vaccine are blood clots..
What really is weird is that initially, the AZ vaccine was only for people 60-64, then they increased to age but somehow now it is not recommended for people under 55? |

Not close to health care. Are you kidding? Teachers are not socially distant from hundreds of contacts every day by absolute necessity and those contacts have contact to every other part of society.
The people who could do their job from home, maybe had to learn how to log on. the jobs that physically could not be done from home could not be re-learned. Nobody disputes that. Teachers had NO training, and NO existing material and had to deal with parents and kids who also had no training on how to learn from home. They had a brand new playbook that they had to develop first, and then use.
Teachers barely graded anything? Have you seen what teachers are required to do for report cards? Maybe you should educate yourself a bit... and then explain how they are expected to do adhere to those standards, that were not altered in any way when all they had was remote exposure to go on for a couple rounds of the reports.
March break... Are you aware that Teachers are the ONLY group that not only had to deal with their kids learning from home, but also had to teach from home, during the same hours? Do you have any idea how hard this has been for school-aged kids?
Obviously, I know many teachers and have seen first hand what the effect has been on them and have a school-aged kid.
You clearly have not a (frank)ing clue and should avoid talking about stuff you know nothing about. |

Also too bad is that most teachers are under 55, and female ...
the increase in age was based on real-world data showing efficacy above 65. The sudden restriction below 55 was because of the demographics of the people suffering the rare and serious blood-clotting problem.
Our government has not failed in this regard. They are reacting to on-going discovery. They have to do this partly because AZ did such a sloppy and poopty job with their initial studies. They did this because vaccines are big business. They cut corners and rushed.

They are doing the exact same thing as the feds.
They are making decisions based on votes. Society loves to hear about things opening up and they don't mind teachers getting the shaft. After all, they have big pensions and summers off, so they are spoiled right? |

Well it looks like vaccines for everyone are going to happen faster, IF we don't get more delays. Isn't it nice being at the mercy of other countries/companies.
Teachers are in Phase 2... right along with bar and restaurant workers.
Bars/restaurants/gyms/hair salons = votes
Teachers = not as many votes.
Just never make the mistake of believing any of these decisions are health-based. |

I would think that now is the time to build the infrastructure so our premier doesn't have to plead to the US to lend us some vaccines because of poorly led government.
It's more so, we should be self sufficient in this area for the next one! |

Phase 2. Wife is a grade 1 teacher.
On a lighter note... if you ever want a good laugh, watch a bunch of 5/6-year olds in an on-line class
It also depends on the health units. Phase 2 has been moved up because we are expecting an increase in supply, AND the uptake from phase 1 is still not what was expected. Some people think this may be because of the endless AZ bullpoop. |
