Is it possible there is a trade? Is interesting.

You’d think with Ekblad out there would be some move to be made with Florida

What the (frank) ? Regarding Ghost
- arichardson22

Confirmed he is on waivers. This to me means 1. There is no trade market for Ghost, Fletcher has stated already no teams are taking on term and money right now, 2. Fletcher pretty confident that teams will not select him and will clear, 3. They are fine with someone claiming him because it clears cap space for them to do something at the deadline, or 4. Fletcher is a moron!

let's play a game..... Best guesses as to why Gostisbehere is on waivers, while Gustafsson is still on the roster. Go......

Ghost?

I really dont get it, no one would take him eating 1/2 or are they that sure no one will take him at 4.5 off of waivers. I'll wait but it appears they just don't see him as part of the future. Ghost should be on PP1, Ghost hasn't played any worse than any other D and he adds something the rest don't. If he makes it through waivers what do they save 1 mil? I have to think they know the Panthers will take him.

Watch Hextall claim him.

I would think with Ekblad going down they may take him?

- Buzzo

If someone wants Ghost they will do what they need to make room for him, flat cap or not.

His value around the league will be seen soon. I doubt he would be taken even in the expansion draft.

So if #53 clears waivers, and there is no deal what then ? Bury him with the Phantoms? Makes no sense in and of itself. But a few other teams put players on waivers last night.. saw it rolling across the bottom of the NHL Network screen..

Wasn't the plan to use Gostisbehere as one of the players you don't protect in the expansion draft?

If we look at 1 and 2 separately from #3, what is the purpose of waiving him?

Clearing cap space to bring in a defender I expect. I don't like letting him go for nothing, but I expect that the trade market is slow and Chuck needs to make a move so he has to clear cap. Willing to expose him to being taken.

The only reason i can see Gus not being waived is someone may actually trade for him 50% retained.

From ESPN+, by Greg Wyshynski
Top 10 Defensemen for 2021
We canvassed 10 active NHL players -- seven skaters, three goaltenders -- and 10 individuals in team hockey operations, from coaches to general managers to player personnel executives. The surveys were conducted over the past two months.
Respondents were asked to rank their top 10 players at center, winger, defenseman and goaltender, based on a predetermined list of the top 20 to 30 players at each position. Players who were ranked in the top 10 on each ballot were given a numerical score: No. 1 earned 10 points, No. 2 earned nine points and so on.
1. Hedman
2. Makar
3. Josi
4. Pietrangelo
5. Heiskanen
6. Seth Jones
7. Jaccob Slavin
8. John Carlson
9. Shea Theodore
10. Ivan Provorov

The final spot in the top 10 goes to the Flyers' 24-year-old defenseman.
Provorov is in his fifth NHL season. He's playing as much as he ever has (25:07 time on ice per game), although his offense and puck possession are a tick down from last season.
He hasn't gotten into the Norris conversation yet, but Provorov was ranked in the top 10 on seven ballots in the survey. One NHL general manager had him second overall, his highest ranking. That alone was the difference between Provorov getting the final spot by a slim margin over Brent Burns (27 points).
"I'm becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Provorov," said one NHL coach. Apparently he's not alone.

They already have enough players to fulfil the requirements with Braun and Hagg.

If its option 1 or 2, I don't see the reason to waive him, just make him a healthy scratch as the 7th dman and play one of the taxi squad dmen in his place. But I wonder if its option 3, then it would make sense to waive him. Why? Fletcher must have a deal in place and just needs to create cap space and thus has urgency to get rid of Ghost now versus over the summer. It was pretty clear Ghost was not going to be protected anyway in the ED and that the team has given up on him.
