these stats for 5 on 5 is irrelevant when you get into season crunch time and playoffs, its all about the PP, and the Flyers PP is not good enough!
- jd250

5 on 5 is how 90% of a game is played. Honestly, a good powerplay is the least important behind good 5 on 5 play and penalty kill.

You don’t win in the playoffs without being a good 5 on 5 team.

When opinion is divided across external observers, by all means personal opinions can be the tie-breaker. But when a significant majority of such observers concur (as they do in this case about the top players), the opinions collectively have the same weight as say weather reports, or stock market indices. They are often wrong (which fools the fools), but they beat random guesses handsomely, and they beat individual/local opinions (who think they know better) even more handsomely.

- PT21

The external observers that you place so much value in are not the experts. They're often wrong. So your analogy of stock markets or weather reports, made by the actual experts is not a good analogy. Young player development is never linear and is normally up and down. The fact remains that the Flyers have some good player and a number of young players that have the ability to get much better than they are now. Including prospects who are currently not with the team.

One of the things that always cracks me up in sports fandom is the # of guys on local boards who disdain the experts. They never stop to think: gee, if that guy is such a fool, and is making pretty good money, why don't I form a forecasting company, composed of people like me, some from each team's boards, and we can make pretty good dough too.

- PT21

Here is the problem with that. You have no clue who the experts are. You don't actually consider what the actual experts might think. One of the things that cracks me up in sports fandom is when a fan will scour the internet looking for an opinion that fits their narrative. Or a fan who thinks anyone on the internet, is an expert.

As for Farabee, he has played only 33 games this season. He has 5 points in his last 10 games, and he had 0 points over 5 games earlier. Coupled with the fact that he was drafted #14 (which, btw is also an expert poll of GMs and scouts for that year) and is only in his 2nd year, everything screams of small sample bias regarding this year stats. He projects to be a very good player. Whether he is however going to be one of the best or top is still way, way too early to determine, and as such, any such list that keeps him off it is totally justified.

- PT21

I don't know when that list was compiled. It may have been before this season, which would justify Farabee being left off. However, any expert would undoubtedly place Farabee on that list now. This is what you haven't considered and haven't had an open mind about because it would go against your narrative. Where a player was drafted a few years back has no bearing on what kind of player he is today. How can you not understand that? It's disqualifying for you.

Not that any of this reasoning will get through to you, a dude who over a huge period of time has a batting average of about 0.05. Honestly, its a crime. I should have to pay to read stuff like this.

- PT21

Your reasoning is flawed. Like it normally is. So your comment here is not something I need to take seriously. You just can't realize that the person you continually try to insult, hands it to you on a daily basis.

You failed to answer my question of whether the Isles are a Cup contender and if they are, who is their elite player/

I have no doubt that its entirely possible Fletcher wants to resign G. In my post I was stating what I would do if I were GM. And we already know you would never hire me as your GM!

Well you are just wrong! The Flyers are 9th in SH% and 13th in Goals For and a whopping 21st in the league in Shots of Goal!

They need more shoot-first players in their lineup!

The problem isn't whether or not someone is saying/yelling/whispering something to someone. I can hear stories all day about this current player said and did this blah blah blah...

The only thing that matters, ONLY THING, is the result that occurs after. The method used doesn't even matter. Even winning doesn't even matter at that point. If it comes a time when someone has to stand up and start yelling or give an inspirational speech or even show by example to cause a change, but no change happens...is the message respected?

- Glak18

There's a lot more that matters. Why does the message need to be sent? Why doesn't the team have urgency and play with desperation at the opening puck drop. Have they been playing well lately? Are they comfortably in a playoff spot as one of the top teams in the league? Why do you get to the point where a message needs to be sent after the 2nd period when you're down 3-0 to a team that has lost 17 in a row?

I couldn't make out who the defensive pairing was there. Any idea why the left D is on the right boards?

Most of the posts today are devoted to the long term and who isn't pulling their weight.
Being of limited faculties, I'm going to ask one question.
Did anyone notice on the tying goal that Coots was pitchforked AND slew footed?
My question derived from that incident is, are calls NOT to be made when this situation of goal and foul are simultaneous?
Luckily coots fell properly and immediately rose. If he had been injured, would DPS rectify things?
Officiating is frequently mentioned by our broadcasters, positive (we got away with something) or negative (Them SOBs!).
While we can speak of the egregiously deplorable play of the team 2/3 rds of the time, officlals are like bad goalies. They keep on missing dribblers and are looking for a ten bell save to bail them out.

Yes, another posted pointed that out me after the fact, but I thought about and decided it really doesn't matter. What matters the most is does this team have the right mix of forwards right now? The answer is clearly no. Even the Flyers broadcast team night after night points out that the Flyers are over passing and not shooting enough. They point out play after play where the shot was there and they passed it up. So its not just me saying this, its real experts that follow the team every single day, have been in the job for a long time and are getting paid well to do it.

What does it matter if 5 on 5 they have a good stat, overall this team is in the middle of the pack or bottom 1/3 in the most important stats, can they score goals and get quality shots on net. I know you turned the game off last night, but that 3rd period was a perfect example of this. The Flyers down 3-1 had 2 straight PPs and they didn't convert on either one. Now against a team like Buffalo they got away with this, but against a good team they lose that game easily. So it does not matter if your stats look better 5 on 5, what matters is can you convert in key situations of the game when opportunities arise, and the answer is a resounding no for this team, this year and in year' past! The reason? IMO they lack forwards with a shoot first mentality and the skill to execute it.

I believe that was Morin. I have noticed a Few times in games he’s leaving his side to come over to the other side of the ice leaving it open. Has worked a few times, but when he gambles like that he leaves the entire side of his wide open.

The teams 5 on 5 S% shows that your comment that the Flyers lack finishers is another incorrect observation. I agree that the team overpasses and doesn't take shots when they have the opportunity. They also had an issue for a lot of the season in not generating enough shots.

This probably means that there is some kind of deal in the works. I'll wait and see if that is true but just looking at that move by itself. Fletcher ought to be tarred and feathered.
