Yeah, it takes all types of voices and approaches. John Stevens the foster dad. Lavi the human pep rally/helmet puncher. Richie who will give you 'the shift'. Gagne and Kimmo as consummate pros. And Prongs being Prongs.

In the end, it was team with a lot of very young players that needed time to figure poop out. Pronger was just as much the impetus for the eventual turnaround as Lavi and Ville Leino and Michael Leighton. Boy, did they come close.

- Tomahawk

Remember hearing a story about Pronger's leadership. Not sure which season, but a young Giroux made a few bad decisions during the game and right as the media were being let in the locker room, Pronger and G emerged from behind a curtain where the vet had been letting the young G have it. That's not everyone's style and not every player will respond to that. If the media hadn't been let in at that moment, we may never have heard about it. We don't know what is being said behind close doors. We don't know who in that room is stepping up and saying stuff or calling others out. I like to think that someone is going freaking nuts between periods last night.

Also, what the hell happened to Hayes? Not the same player as last year.

As if Pronman's list of top players under 23 actually means anything. Actually matters. It doesn't. Any list of the top 23 young players in the league that doesn't include Joel Farabee, is not a very good list. He's easily in the top 10 in scoring among players 23 or younger in the NHL. You actually believe that a list of NHL network analysts actually means anything. Who are the analysts who made the list.
- MJL

When opinion is divided across external observers, by all means personal opinions can be the tie-breaker. But when a significant majority of such observers concur (as they do in this case about the top players), the opinions collectively have the same weight as say weather reports, or stock market indices. They are often wrong (which fools the fools), but they beat random guesses handsomely, and they beat individual/local opinions (who think they know better) even more handsomely.

One of the things that always cracks me up in sports fandom is the # of guys on local boards who disdain the experts. They never stop to think: gee, if that guy is such a fool, and is making pretty good money, why don't I form a forecasting company, composed of people like me, some from each team's boards, and we can make pretty good dough too.

As for Farabee, he has played only 33 games this season. He has 5 points in his last 10 games, and he had 0 points over 5 games earlier. Coupled with the fact that he was drafted #14 (which, btw is also an expert poll of GMs and scouts for that year) and is only in his 2nd year, everything screams of small sample bias regarding this year stats. He projects to be a very good player. Whether he is however going to be one of the best or top is still way, way too early to determine, and as such, any such list that keeps him off it is totally justified.

Not that any of this reasoning will get through to you, a dude who over a huge period of time has a batting average of about 0.05. Honestly, its a crime. I should have to pay to read stuff like this.

Ha.

Dude, watching the game yesterday was like attending a outdoor summer wedding of a nymphomaniac hooker. The vows were taken, many made merry, but you had a pretty good feeling that there is brutal calamity ahead.

In that wedding, think of me as the older dude in the seersucker suit and the pink bowtie with Southern Comfort on his breath who pigeonholes anyone within unsuspecting range and lectures them about what is wrong with it all.

You talk of putting yourself in Fletcher's shoes. Well with this post you didn't accomplish that. While I certainly can't provide proof and it is most definitely speculation but it is a guarantee that Fletcher intends to and wants to re-sign Claude Giroux to a new contract.
- MJL

I have no doubt that its entirely possible Fletcher wants to resign G. In my post I was stating what I would do if I were GM. And we already know you would never hire me as your GM!

Bet you wouldn't have guessed that they are top-5 in team SH% at 5V5 right now.
- Tomahawk

Well you are just wrong! The Flyers are 9th in SH% and 13th in Goals For and a whopping 21st in the league in Shots of Goal!

They need more shoot-first players in their lineup!

The problem isn't whether or not someone is saying/yelling/whispering something to someone. I can hear stories all day about this current player said and did this blah blah blah...

The only thing that matters, ONLY THING, is the result that occurs after. The method used doesn't even matter. Even winning doesn't even matter at that point. If it comes a time when someone has to stand up and start yelling or give an inspirational speech or even show by example to cause a change, but no change happens...is the message respected?

these stats for 5 on 5 is irrelevant when you get into season crunch time and playoffs, its all about the PP, and the Flyers PP is not good enough!

I’m glad the leadership of the team responded to AV leaning on them to play the right way

Is it good for them on responding or is it an indictment on them for not responding at the opening puck drop. Honestly, the comeback in a purest sense is two points in the standings but big picture. It's an indictment against them.
- MJL

Agree. Of course they get credit for getting the two points, but no credit for the heroic efforts it took to get them.

I see how you operate. You regularly make snide remarks about certain types of work. It's disgusting, imho.

I agree, AV was calling them out, now they need to choose to put in the effort needed to win.

I definitely agree the power play hasn't been good enough, but most of the game is played at 5v5. So those stats definitely aren't irrelevant. Also, I was just pointing out what he said, he wasn't wrong.
