I don’t get it. Ghost must be a horrid attitude problem for coaches. He’s been, low bar, one of the better D this season. None of them have been great but he does good things sometimes. Some of them don’t.

Why aren’t they waiving Hayes? Dude hasn’t worked out since Covid shut them down last March. He’s been useless ever since.

Waiving hayes would show that chuck made a mistake in signing him. chuck does not make mistakes

I do not think it matters who they have in mind. I have never seen this much talent being wasted in a long time. Why do players like Provorov, Konecny, Sanheim, Myers, Lindblom to name a few have their games drop off at the same time, not to mention C. Hart who sees more quality scoring chances that L. Ullmark, what a joke this team is. The inconsistent play has to be blamed on the coaching staff imo.
- joegreif17

This is what I was alluding to earlier, there is something wrong with the culture on this team that seems to infect anyone that joins it, whether they be star-eyed rookies or veterans. I don't blame the coaches, I mean after all its the 5th coaching staff in 8 years! I blame the leadership and thus why I believe strongly it needs to be jettisoned and redone.

Ok, thanks for this explanation. So do you know where this deadline cap space comes from?

Yes but wasn't it set for only 3 seasons so he could avoid the Seattle expansion. I remember hearing it was time bound and not full contract duration

Gotta be tougher than taking it from Hayes. Pretty sure he left it at the table at Geno’s in the off season.

Players cap hits are prorated as the season goes along. Cap accounting is done daily. AS each day goes by, a player costs less on the cap. If you go to CapFreindly and go to the Predators cap and clock on Ryan Ellis, you'll see that he remaining daily cap hit left for him for this year is $2,155,172. If you go to Ekholm, you'll see that the number for the rest of this year is 1,293,103. Now you also have to have the tagging space for future years. The Flyers currently have 2,733,850 of cap space. hence my statement.

If there is no other move I’m not happy, this makes the team worse. Guy was probably one of the only bright spots on the back end.

From ESPN+, by Greg Wyshynski
Top 10 Defensemen for 2021
We canvassed 10 active NHL players -- seven skaters, three goaltenders -- and 10 individuals in team hockey operations, from coaches to general managers to player personnel executives. The surveys were conducted over the past two months.
Respondents were asked to rank their top 10 players at center, winger, defenseman and goaltender, based on a predetermined list of the top 20 to 30 players at each position. Players who were ranked in the top 10 on each ballot were given a numerical score: No. 1 earned 10 points, No. 2 earned nine points and so on.
1. Hedman
2. Makar
3. Josi
4. Pietrangelo
5. Heiskanen
6. Seth Jones
7. Jaccob Slavin
8. John Carlson
9. Shea Theodore
10. Ivan Provorov

The final spot in the top 10 goes to the Flyers' 24-year-old defenseman.
Provorov is in his fifth NHL season. He's playing as much as he ever has (25:07 time on ice per game), although his offense and puck possession are a tick down from last season.
He hasn't gotten into the Norris conversation yet, but Provorov was ranked in the top 10 on seven ballots in the survey. One NHL general manager had him second overall, his highest ranking. That alone was the difference between Provorov getting the final spot by a slim margin over Brent Burns (27 points).
"I'm becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Provorov," said one NHL coach. Apparently he's not alone.

I am speaking not just as a professional data guy, but really using common sense, pointing out how truly spectacular this survey is.

1. There were 20 individuals surveyed, each employed with a club. In other words, each guy has a vested interest in his ranking, and it may have a division or conference bias. By definition, some club personnel don't even get a vote. Some may have been over-represented. This is about as far as an unbiased (random) sample as it could get.

2. They chose from a predetermined list! I mean, good grief!

2. They actually weighed the rankings by points, as I bolded above, and then added them up. This is a good way to break ties. But a horrible way to compile a top 10. The reason being that a single outlying vote can hugely swing the results.

Which is exactly what happened. One GM had him ranked at #2! As the part of your quote bolded above shows. The survey admits that this is what gets Provorov into the top 10 and that too by a squeaker, over the guy who finished #2 in Norris voting last year (Provorov finished #17 and will likely drop out of the top 20 this year).

In other words, the vast majority of the respondents don't consider him a top 10 D-man.

I almost feel like it is not the players and something to do with coaching. I mean Sanheim and Myers have totally regressed this season, why ?? 31 Teams knew Gustafsson can not play D so lets sign him. Morin is a dman so lets put him on the wing, Patrick is not ready to be a top line player so lets play him on the first line and first pp unit. Hayes, Lindblom and Konecny have been very inconsistent. Ironically Gost has had some great games this past month and none better time to try and get rid of him. If he does not get claimed I will be shocked.
- joegreif17

I think you’re on to something. Stop from the top and works it’s way down. Morin starting the season on LW is a prime example of, this kid probably doesn’t have a chance of making the team on defense unless all avenues sour, which they did. Konency replacing Farabee on the top line, after the top line being so dominant for all of February. I can’t even remember the last time Konency scored a goal.

Maybe some players are tired of coaches. How many coaches has Lappy survived? I worry with Therien...he’s had rough encounters with players in his past and our PP has been abysmal (going back to last year). are players frustrated with Therien’s PP decisions? Is AV being too loyal to his buddy?
