Can someone explain to me how the pens just sat him after two games? I thought if you claimed someone off waivers, you have to keep them on your active roster. So can they just sit him forever? Or did they just give him off for passover?

My concern on downside is the pressure it puts on Morin. Without Ghost he is going to have a seriously suspect partner. He is just getting his legs under him....playing with a bad partner could regress some of that progress because you can rest assured a kid like him is going to try to overcompensate for his partner being out of position.

Yeah well that's where I disagree, people keep looking at who they will put in the lineup and judging those players, which are playing poorly. I agree the replacement options are suspect, but my question is what is a player who can't even beat out those suspect players for a spot called?

Zero compensation haha, what did you think you were getting for him?
- ClaudeFather

Half the people on here defend ghost for his one season. I have wanted to trade him for years. Now he may go for nothing.

But positives. Want the cap space. Will make Hamilton or what not easier if there aren’t trades.

That is one of the biggest cop outs that can be made. Yeah that's what is happening, a professional sports team in the business of making money is going to go "I don't like what you said, well I will show you...you're waived!"...is the team being run by millennials now?
- Glak18

The beauty of being a pro player being paid millions. If they want to sit you, humiliate you or whatever they still gotta pay you. If this is Gost's punishment for defending Carter Hart I say more power to him. Hart has not been great but Marty Brodeur would probably be being lit up as well.

I like ghost but I think he would benefit enormously from a change of scene...
- therabbi

Ok, and that does what for the Flyers exactly? They get some cap space for Fletcher to spend on bums like Gustafsson?

Well they could mutually terminate. Holding his contract means he won’t be able to sign anywhere else. If he wants to go overseas he will have to fold. Or someone will.
- Peter Richards

Why would ADA give up all that money? If he is bought out, he gets some money and can play where ever he wants. No way the Rangers or any team plays the bluffing game out of spite because keeping his contract hurts them more.

Point taken. I could see them flipping Haag to Right side since he was Morin's partner in LHV. That would be a better option than Gus or Prosser

Nah ADA NHL career is over. He will be bought out and ADA will go overseas to play.

Could you imagine all the damage he could do hopped up on Russian gas?

It would make Ray Emery's stint in the KHL look like a walk in the park

I think people are reading too much into it.

- The Flyers waive him and if someone takes him then best case scenario because they free up space this year and 2 more years. No one is giving up any assets for him anyway.

- He clears, they bank for TDL and keep him on the taxi squad. They are losing and becoming a longer shot to make the playoffs every day and obviously don't feel he is even remotely essential to the team. Then they do the same thing they have done with him for the last couple years, figure it out next year.

There could be trades, but hoping he gets claimed so they can finalize a deal is really risky. Ghost is the new Andrew MacDonald.

- Glak18

I suppose it could simply be a move for cap space next season and not movement now, however that would only be the case if he is claimed.

Sounds like the opposite on the boards here. "Fletcher is so mean to be hurting ghost's feelings and confidence. What a bad boss. This will just hurt the confidence of the Philadelphia Snowflakes. Hasn't Fletch heard that you're supposed to be the young man's cheerleader!"

Though Ghost made more sitting on the bench for one abbreviated season than I will make in my life time.

I do not think it matters who they have in mind. I have never seen this much talent being wasted in a long time. Why do players like Provorov, Konecny, Sanheim, Myers, Lindblom to name a few have their games drop off at the same time, not to mention C. Hart who sees more quality scoring chances that L. Ullmark, what a joke this team is. The inconsistent play has to be blamed on the coaching staff imo.

I agree 100%. I know no one saw this coming, but it's being blown up way too much. What exactly did people think they were getting for him?

Very few people thought highly of him recently so the return is miniscule. Saying he isn't the worst defenseman is just saying "well at least he's better than Gus". Not exactly the highest praise.

This has nothing to do with the comments he made about Hart, NOTHING. It was a teammate sticking up for a teammate. If Giroux said it no one would think more of it. Now because Ghost was waived people are trying to string a narrative together to get some kind of content. The juicier it can sound the more it can be stretched out to get more clicks. Remember this is what people do for a living, they can't just report the news they need an angle to separate themselves from others that report the same exact thing.

I was actually asking you because I didn't totally understand it; if you don't know that's ok. According the cap friendly, the Flyers deadline cap space is $4.2M, compared to the daily cap space of $2.7M. The description of the deadline cap space is the total sum of the cap hit values that the current daily cap hit can be increased by to remain compliant below the cap ceiling at seasons end. So I think this means the Flyers actually have $6.9M in cap space to utilize even before losing Ghost. Thus your statement that the Flyers don't need to waive Ghost in order to get Ekholm or Ellis? I'm just trying to understand your reasoning.
- jd250

Players cap hits are prorated as the season goes along. Cap accounting is done daily. AS each day goes by, a player costs less on the cap. If you go to CapFreindly and go to the Predators cap and clock on Ryan Ellis, you'll see that he remaining daily cap hit left for him for this year is $2,155,172. If you go to Ekholm, you'll see that the number for the rest of this year is 1,293,103. Now you also have to have the tagging space for future years. The Flyers currently have 2,733,850 of cap space. hence my statement.

I like cap space. Just have to use it well.
Also, waiving means he sees if anyone will take ghost without us retaining salary. If it's a summer trade, bet we retain a lot..

I will be honest...I would probably stream every KHL game I could get ahold of for that one moment.

I disagree. Morin has looked more and more steady the more games/minutes he's gotten under his belt IMO.

Ok, thanks for this explanation. So do you know where this deadline cap space comes from?

Edit: Did some reading, it does come from the same place. It accumulated each day the team is under the cap and not using LTIR, and is in effect the final 40 days of the sason.

my exact point...for whatever reason, the kid gets the shortest leash Ive seen a D-man afforded. If his partner is always out of position, lagging play, overcommitting or whatever...does that force Sam to start cheating his assignment to try to cover for his partner.

Id just hate to see the kid go backwards now that he is gaining momentum.
