I guess we will find out shortly, good defensemen do not last long on waivers. Remember a free player with 2 years left on term...NO team passes on that.

I wonder if Ekholm was placed on waivers, 3.75m cap hit with 1 year left, would the Flyers (or any team) find a way to make room and claim him?

Otherwise you end up getting lumped in with Anthony Deangelo...locker room issues aside, he just had a 53 point season in 68 games 1 year removed (not 3 years like others).

Great respons Glak18, I agree totally. can you imagine waiving Gost and once he is claimed picking up DeAngelo, lol. That would be hilarious. I rate ADA a little higher than Gost on the ice but he is pretty much a head case that a team would have to hire him a personal shrink before taking him on. Salary are 4.5 compared to 4.8.
The one thing about DeAngelo he can be a player and I can not see him out for much longer, but his salary has to be shared if he ever comes back.

Rangers are gonna buy DeAngelo out in the summer.

We've been asking for someone to be held accountable, fair or not Fletcher and AV have decided to make their unhappiness with this team known by this move. Hoping another shoe drops, but in this case I believe this is a loud message to an underachieving team...pure and simple

Until Ghost is dressed in the next game. It's likely that this is all a paper move.

Wouldn’t be shocked if Buffalo claims him. Isn’t like half their roster UFA after this season.

If Gostisbehere isn't claimed, the Flyers are removing him and placing an inferior player in the lineup whether it be Hagg, or Gustafsson.

If he is claimed you lose him, getting zero compensation.

This looks like Fletcher is making an example of Gostisbehere when basically the entire team has been pure poop. (A few exceptions aside).

Looks like cutting your nose off to spite your face from this wizard of a GM.

At the beginning of this shortened season, looking at cap savings ideas, I threw out the idea of waiving Ghost and putting him on the taxi squad to bank money with eyes on making a move for a RHD when available. Of course, at the time most teams had high hope of playoffs with lots of questions about how the new conference alignment would pan out, the Flyers had 7 other NHL defenseman, no team had significant injury, and presumably, Fletcher had tried to trade him but there was no takers. It seemed low risk. Of course he got Covid, the Flyers defense struggled and that didn’t happen.

I can’t say I saw it coming later, now that teams have injuries and some are eliminated from playoff contention. Now, it is more risky but could be shrewd...I guess we just wait and find out if he is claimed tomorrow. You have to think this means “big trade.”

I think people are reading too much into it.

- The Flyers waive him and if someone takes him then best case scenario because they free up space this year and 2 more years. No one is giving up any assets for him anyway.

- He clears, they bank for TDL and keep him on the taxi squad. They are losing and becoming a longer shot to make the playoffs every day and obviously don't feel he is even remotely essential to the team. Then they do the same thing they have done with him for the last couple years, figure it out next year.

There could be trades, but hoping he gets claimed so they can finalize a deal is really risky. Ghost is the new Andrew MacDonald.

Yes I am sure that is in their plans but could be hoping Seattle claims him or hope they find a cheaper way to unload him. One thing for sure he will never be a blueshirt again, haha

Gus is cheaper & on an expiring contract?
- Big_E_88

If I’m being honest, Ghost is having a good season but I’ve wanted him off the books for awhile. I think we all should. I think players like Ghost hold back a player like Sanheim from his full potential, most notably on the power play. Every season we never know what we’re gonna get from Ghost. If he doesn’t produce, he’s useless. Now this season he’s playing very well. I’ve been very pleased, flaws and all. However, I hope he gets claimed. He won’t but I hope he does. If Ghost does get claimed, I was waive Gus right after and regardless if Gus goes or not, I’d send him down...because he’s a bad player.

This is a set up to clear space for a trade, otherwise you don’t make this sort of move at all.

It's a 1/3 BO in the summer, which barely dents their cap moving forward if Seattle doesn't bite. And they refused his request to be loaned out, so they must not be getting any calls about him from other GMs since they banished him.

Guy's NHL career might be over.

Buffalo claims him, he scores the GWG tomorrow night to breaking the 18 game losing streak. It's too perfect.

My concern on downside is the pressure it puts on Morin. Without Ghost he is going to have a seriously suspect partner. He is just getting his legs under him....playing with a bad partner could regress some of that progress because you can rest assured a kid like him is going to try to overcompensate for his partner being out of position.

EDIT: Maybe they will flip Hagg to Right side D. He was Morin's partner in LHV, so maybe that is part of their plan.

That is one of the biggest cop outs that can be made. Yeah that's what is happening, a professional sports team in the business of making money is going to go "I don't like what you said, well I will show you...you're waived!"...is the team being run by millennials now?

Well they could mutually terminate. Holding his contract means he won’t be able to sign anywhere else. If he wants to go overseas he will have to fold. Or someone will.

I almost feel like it is not the players and something to do with coaching. I mean Sanheim and Myers have totally regressed this season, why ?? 31 Teams knew Gustafsson can not play D so lets sign him. Morin is a dman so lets put him on the wing, Patrick is not ready to be a top line player so lets play him on the first line and first pp unit. Hayes, Lindblom and Konecny have been very inconsistent. Ironically Gost has had some great games this past month and none better time to try and get rid of him. If he does not get claimed I will be shocked.

Exactly, Friedman should not even be compared to Gost ffs. Friedman had the game of his life against his old team and now he can just go back to being a #7 or 8
- joegreif17

Can someone explain to me how the pens just sat him after two games? I thought if you claimed someone off waivers, you have to keep them on your active roster. So can they just sit him forever? Or did they just give him off for passover?
