If they are being truthful, then maybe they do need the cap space he provides if not claimed. I still have to think a move is coming.
- Hextall271

I agree a move has to be coming. You don't downgrade an already weak defense further just to embarrass a player.

there was a reason behind this, it may not be a good reason, and it may not be a reason that any or many (definitely not all) of us approve.

If Fletcher is confident he won’t get claimed he is passing him through waivers to save cap space. He doesn’t have to go to the minors after he clears.

That is what I think is happening. I certainly hope they are not trying to lose him for nothing. If he is claimed and they make another move I could get behind that depending upon the move.

- mickel25

That is a huge risk especially when it backfired with Freidman

So AV said he expects Ghost to clear waivers and thus move allows them some roster flexibility.
So they plan to keep Ghost out of the lineup if he clears, and if there is no trade.. then the obvious is pulling Gus or Prosser back up?

Who is making these ridiculous decisions? AV or Fletcher?

My thinking exactly. Why bring young players with a lot of future promise into a complete dumpster fire? This is a good way to ruin a kid's future.
- Letterkenney

Exactly, dumpter fire it is for sure. Gost would look good on a good team but everyone looks bad on a bad team. Flyers can only beat Buffalo and good teams get excited when they know the Flyers are up next on their schedule. I mean the NYR outscored this Flyer team 15-0 in just four periods recently, that is almost like impossible to imagine. Also beating a team like Buffalo was a huge last minute challenge, a Buffalo team that has lost something like 18 in row. Good luck wherever you go Shane.

It might be as simple as timing....several teams need d and might bite on a guy like ghost. If the Flyers could move Ghost for an asset they may be asked to retain a portion of the contract....so in this case the Flyers would rid themselves of the player and the full portion of the $ and term....Strange I liked Ghosts game in the last 6 weeks or so....couple bad games, but Christ he wasn’t the only one.
My guess is Florida...followed by Ronnie in Pittsburgh if he gets claimed.

Would it be completely stupid to see this as a disciplinary move.

Gods I hope we’re not that bs team.

No swearing or booze! Flyers and Fletcher boring but cool. 🥳

Agreed. Haven’t heard of anything else going though. Normally one of the hockey guys is reporting something if you get to the stage where money is being moved to complete a trade.

Exactly, Friedman should not even be compared to Gost ffs. Friedman had the game of his life against his old team and now he can just go back to being a #7 or 8

Wish I was a fly on the wall when they told Ghost, how does that conversation go? We just don't see you as part of our future. I know we are a dumpster fire but you are not good enough to play on a poop team.

I am sure they has something special to say.

I would not rule that out. He is young enough and sometimes a little break is all a guy needs and the desire returns. This makes more sense than York leaving college to me.

He'd be giving up his NCAA eligibility by signing a pro contract (or even just practicing, I think).

He's just a sophomore, even though he's 22.

- Tomahawk

But if you have a chance to sign a pro contract, wouldn't you do that versus risking injury in college and thus throwing it all away?

If they waive Ghost, they can put keep assigning him to the taxi squad on non-game days to bank cap space toward the TDL.

Well Shane we got some good news and some bad news. First off we are offering you a nice one way vacation to Florida your home state. The bad news is we can not confirm today that Florida needs a poopty dman like you, lol

Maybe not, because usually players are choosing the USHL/college route for the education side benefit and the longer development window.

Glak, you obviously have an issue with Gost, I hope he gets claimed and has success. This Flyer team will sink any players value, may as well put Hart and Lindblom on waivers too since they stink right now. 3-0 Sabres after two, lol This team is brutal and AV has gone senile. I am sure Patrick is related to the coach, lol
- joegreif17

I guess we will find out shortly, good defensemen do not last long on waivers. Remember a free player with 2 years left on term...NO team passes on that.

I wonder if Ekholm was placed on waivers, 3.75m cap hit with 1 year left, would the Flyers (or any team) find a way to make room and claim him?

Otherwise you end up getting lumped in with Anthony Deangelo...locker room issues aside, he just had a 53 point season in 68 games 1 year removed (not 3 years like others).

If this is all it is, then this is a discipline move only, and I am bummed to the max! Ghost contradicted AV's criticism of Carter Hart so now he is going to be demoted to the taxi squad. The good news is if you move Ghost to the taxi squad, you get all his cap space for this year!!

I would not completely count out Boston claiming Ghost. They are in need of a Dman and have the cap space, and really no prospects or picks to make any decent trades right now.

At the beginning of this shortened season, looking at cap savings ideas, I threw out the idea of waiving Ghost and putting him on the taxi squad to bank money with eyes on making a move for a RHD when available. Of course, at the time most teams had high hope of playoffs with lots of questions about how the new conference alignment would pan out, the Flyers had 7 other NHL defenseman, no team had significant injury, and presumably, Fletcher had tried to trade him but there was no takers. It seemed low risk. Of course he got Covid, the Flyers defense struggled and that didn’t happen.

I can’t say I saw it coming later, now that teams have injuries and some are eliminated from playoff contention. Now, it is more risky but could be shrewd...I guess we just wait and find out if he is claimed tomorrow. You have to think this means “big trade.”
