They had cap space and a contract spot before they used the contract spot to sign Willman. I don’t see how any of it connects.
- mayorofangrytown

Signed for next two years. Doesn’t count this year I don’t think.

Ekblad injured, Ghost, who is from Pembroke Pines, is waived. Hmmmm.
- darkerens

I say Ghost is claimed or traded to Florida and then after this season is left unprotected in the ED. With only 2 years $9M remaining on his deal, he will be an attractive veteran piece for the Kracken.

I was thinking more in terms of an actual on ice roster spot but ok.
- MBFlyerfan

In that case just send Morin back to the taxi squad. Not nearly as dramatic though.

Its a head scratcher. We have depth at LD to handle this with Morin and Haag....but we are weak on RD and that is where they could use Ghost if there is injury or poor play.

York is LHD so it cant see it being that and there hasnt been any word on if Attard is coming out and could take reps at RHD if this season is a throw away.

- juiced

I asked -BMeltzer this question regarding Attard but did not see a response. In a recent podcast, the Flyers scouting director mentioned Attard had a great year, so wondering why he is not signed to the Phantoms by now given his college season is over?

I don’t get it. Ghost must be a horrid attitude problem for coaches. He’s been, low bar, one of the better D this season. None of them have been great but he does good things sometimes. Some of them don’t.

Why aren’t they waiving Hayes? Dude hasn’t worked out since Covid shut them down last March. He’s been useless ever since.

- mayorofangrytown

I can’t tell you what’s up either. He’s certainly not their worst dman. Maybe it’s meant as a wake up call but you’re not waking up This group.

Would it be completely stupid to see this as a disciplinary move.

Gods I hope we’re not that bs team.

NMC = no waivers

Can't believe GMs keep giving those out...

Attard’s a younger Ghost. There’s some hints he could wait and go UFA. Nothing solid though.

more likely to let him go through waivers then try to trade. At that point the Flyers have ZERO leverage. The Flyers raised the white flag on Ghost.

Or maybe its a scare tactic to the rest of the team to show they are willing to waive people if they aren't on board and playing to expectations.

He'd be giving up his NCAA eligibility by signing a pro contract (or even just practicing, I think).

He's just a sophomore, even though he's 22.

The most interesting thing, first comment I read:

"Sabres fan here – Is he worth claiming? I’m only asking because we have waiver priority. Obviously we could use talent too, but is he worth a two year investment?

Thanks.

"Most people on this board will probably say he’s worth it, but Ghost has a lot of detractors (AV being one). He’s not amazing in the dzone, but he is an excellent pp QB and good at both blue lines. His ability to keep the puck in the zone is truly incredible. He’s also making less money than his cap hit, which is always appealing to teams. For the Sabres, idk why they’d claim him other than as a place-holder, but I’d say (especially for a bad team) his rewards far outweigh his risks.

Posted by armmyman16 on Mar 30, 2021 | 12:44 PM"

People still view him based off his rookie year...neither point is true. He has been awful on the PP for YEARS, unable to constantly get pucks on net. Look how excited people were on the Patrick goal when Ghost got the puck through for a tip...yeah it doesn't happen often much anymore. Incredible at keeping the puck in the zone? Again a few years ago, ok, but not lately. Pucks constantly pop over his stick and get by him. Granted he does have that little nifty shoulder fake at the blueline, but when was the last time he benefited from it? He could dump the puck in the corner and get better results than he is.

FYI: AV is not the only detractor, remember at least 2 other coaches have dealt with Ghost in the same manor.

Glak, you obviously have an issue with Gost, I hope he gets claimed and has success. This Flyer team will sink any players value, may as well put Hart and Lindblom on waivers too since they stink right now. 3-0 Sabres after two, lol This team is brutal and AV has gone senile. I am sure Patrick is related to the coach, lol

If Fletcher is confident he won’t get claimed he is passing him through waivers to save cap space. He doesn’t have to go to the minors after he clears.

That is what I think is happening. I certainly hope they are not trying to lose him for nothing. If he is claimed and they make another move I could get behind that depending upon the move.

Wasnt advocating it...was responding to someone asking if York's availability was the lynchpin. We would be overloaded on the LHD side (with Zemula in LHV as well) . Where we have no depth is RHD so I cant figure out why they would do this.

That being said, Id be trying to get Attard to LHV as soon as possible to start getting Reps.

My thinking exactly. Why bring young players with a lot of future promise into a complete dumpster fire? This is a good way to ruin a kid's future.

If they are being truthful, then maybe they do need the cap space he provides if not claimed. I still have to think a move is coming.
