Now that Ghost is waived, I guess we can chock this one up as another signing by Hextall; 6 years/$27M. Nice job Hexy! - jd250
To be fair, Ghost was already at 37 goals and 113 assists over just 3 seasons when signing that contract.

So here's my question for the Philly faithful:
Do they not want Ghost at $4.5M, or do they just not want Ghost, period? - Atomic Wedgie
Considering the sheet show this team's D has been all year, Ghost has been one of the few occasional (and I do mean occasional) bright spots with his offensive abilities. |

I wonder if Cam York's season in Michigan being over has any bearing on this?
Just spitballing. Because otherwise Im not getting this move at all. - MBFlyerfan
I mean, they're thinking no one will be willing and/or able to fit ghost under the cap and they want the roster spot for someone else? And maybe its York? That makes as much sense as anything else, I suppose.

Personally I would be somewhat shocked if he ISN'T claimed. - MBFlyerfan
Why? I think he is overrated. Could only see a team with a bunch of space possible claiming him.
Obviously no one was willing to trade for him. Otherwise it would’ve happened. |

AV just said they believe he will clear waivers - wcorvette
And then what? I don't see how this turns out well at all. You are insulting a player who deserves to be in the lineup, and if he is actually assigned to Lehigh Valley you are downgrading your defense even further.

I'm certainly not comfortable with Prosser of Gus taking his spot in the lineup as both are clear downgrades over Ghost. - MBFlyerfan
Signing bonus. This would make sense. But if he does I would think the ahl with them playing well would be best. |

If the Panthers have interest in Ghost, I could see him doing well there. Not just for being with a great coach and up/coming team.. he would be going home to Florida. Seems sort of natural... |

The most interesting thing, first comment I read:
"Sabres fan here – Is he worth claiming? I’m only asking because we have waiver priority. Obviously we could use talent too, but is he worth a two year investment?
Thanks.

"Most people on this board will probably say he’s worth it, but Ghost has a lot of detractors (AV being one). He’s not amazing in the dzone, but he is an excellent pp QB and good at both blue lines. His ability to keep the puck in the zone is truly incredible. He’s also making less money than his cap hit, which is always appealing to teams. For the Sabres, idk why they’d claim him other than as a place-holder, but I’d say (especially for a bad team) his rewards far outweigh his risks.

People still view him based off his rookie year...neither point is true. He has been awful on the PP for YEARS, unable to constantly get pucks on net. Look how excited people were on the Patrick goal when Ghost got the puck through for a tip...yeah it doesn't happen often much anymore. Incredible at keeping the puck in the zone? Again a few years ago, ok, but not lately. Pucks constantly pop over his stick and get by him. Granted he does have that little nifty shoulder fake at the blueline, but when was the last time he benefited from it? He could dump the puck in the corner and get better results than he is.
FYI: AV is not the only detractor, remember at least 2 other coaches have dealt with Ghost in the same manor. |

The Flyers don't need to clear any cap space to add Ellis or Ekholm. - MJL
I seen we have a little over 1.5 cap space left. |

O I agree, I think the ship has sailed but I don't think they would send him down but keeping him playing is just trouble in the locker room. I really think Ghost has played better than most.
Probably scratched and Gus is in. Who knows maybe an Ottawa, a Detroit would take a shot at Ghost. Hey maybe the Sabers and Ghost will actually be in the lineup Wednesday |

This will force AV to put Prosser back into the lineup. Those compromising photos exist.

I can see a team taking a chance. Teams look for D depth and say on a good squad, as a 5/6 dman who is PP specialist.. might work. |

They had cap space and a contract spot before they used the contract spot to sign Willman. I don’t see how any of it connects. |

How many teams can realistically fit his cap this year + how many teams can comfortably take him with not impacting their ED plans? I keep going back and forth if he’ll get claimed or not. |

Not positive but teams claiming. I think only what 9 teams could fit him under their cap.
Prob 85 percent chance he clears. |

And I think the timing of this move is very interesting, not only before the deadline but just after a team like Florida loses their best defenseman and are still well within the playoff hunt. I can see a deal with Florida where the Flyers cover some salary. Florida has a ton of cap space to play with.

Its a head scratcher. We have depth at LD to handle this with Morin and Haag....but we are weak on RD and that is where they could use Ghost if there is injury or poor play.
York is LHD so it cant see it being that and there hasnt been any word on if Attard is coming out and could take reps at RHD if this season is a throw away.

I don’t get it. Ghost must be a horrid attitude problem for coaches. He’s been, low bar, one of the better D this season. None of them have been great but he does good things sometimes. Some of them don’t.
Why aren’t they waiving Hayes? Dude hasn’t worked out since Covid shut them down last March. He’s been useless ever since. |

Comparing Gus and Ghost this year, I'd say that Ghost has been a much better player. Ghost may struggle sometimes on D, but Gus doesn't even try to play D. I'm still puzzled by it. - Letterkenney
Has nothing to do with play...
Gus only $3M and UFA at the end of the year.
Ghost at $4.5M and signed through the end of 22-23. |
