if its 1 or 2 I don't see the reason to waive him, just make him a healthy scratch a the 7th dman and play one of the taxi squad dmen in his place. But I wonder if its option 3, that would make sense to waive him. Why? Because Fletcher has a deal in place and just needs to create cap space so has some urgency to get rid of Ghost now versus over the summer. It was pretty clear Ghost was not going to be protected anyway in the ED. I think its pretty clear now that the team has given up on him.

Why make him a healthy scratch? The other defenseman aren't better. I don't know where you get this stuff from.

I didn't say they were better. I am just trying to make sense of this move based on the potential reasons they would waive Ghost. What other reason to waive Ghost unless it was to get rid of him, either completely or at least from your current roster?

If he's claimed, it clears all the cap, but if not and he's demoted it's only a partial amount correct?

I think the least likely scenario at play here is, Gostisbehere gets claimed, plays well and the Flyers get nothing and look like a horses ass.

let's play a game..... Best guesses as to why Gostisbehere is on waivers, while Gustafsson is still on the roster. Go......
- PLindbergh31

he has 2 years left on his deal. Gus does not. One guess. The coaches do not like him is pretty clear.

Yes, it has to be to clear cap space. Why else would you do this?

If he clears waivers, why would you make him a healthy scratch? The idea of waving a player is to create roster and cap flexibility. If he clears, you have that flexibility for 30 days or 10 games. Unless a trade was imminent and you needed cap space, making him a healthy scratch would not make sense.

yes a little over 1 mil I think, if he clear I thinks he stays and plays. Flyers might be close on a deal and this was a quick way to move cap out without a trade. Either way they clearly are moving on from Ghost. Please send him west.

Flyers have no control over whether Ghost plays well for another team, but Ghost has control over playing well for the Flyers now and for years.

Yes. Waivers and demoting a player are two separate transactions.

Well after weeks of games where it looked like we hit rock bottom....maybe we actually did after the 2nd period last night. I've been waiting for this team to find something to rally around, sure hope this is it.

Yes you only save $1M in cap space, see this link for details: https://colliganhockey.co...do-buried-contracts-work/

I believe that was Morin. I have noticed a Few times in games he’s leaving his side to come over to the other side of the ice leaving it open. Has worked a few times, but when he gambles like that he leaves the entire side of his wide open.
- Buzzo

I kind of thought that was him. Looked like Ghost was racing over to cover the empty area when he realized the pass went across. Didn't really see it so not entirely sure. I just know that that 1 picture of all 5 guys on the right boards says 1 million words about why they are where they are this season.

Perhaps a trade with Florida would require us to eat some of Ghosts salary - and we need all of it off the books- so instead we made a behind-the-scenes deal with Florida, tell them we will put him on waivers, they claim him and fill Ekblads spot (in terms of being a warm body) and we now have space to make a move that is already in the works.

Anyone have an idea what that move might be?

OK, so there must be a trade pending on this transaction.

This probably means that there is some kind of deal in the works. I'll wait and see if that is true but just looking at that move by itself. Fletcher ought to be tarred and feathered.
- MJL

WHAT? Why TF is he waiving Ghost? Why not waive Gus or Prosser first?

Ghost isn't an asset

Is it respectful or does he belittle Bill? I am not sure calling people a clown and telling them to go away will help Bill's blogger viewership but it is a free country

It has to be another defenseman I would think. Could it be Ellis??
