The Jets were fairly flat tonight. Ehlers the lone player that stood out to me. |
|
|
|
That was painful to watch, they were terrible, hate to say it but they look like they did tonight against the Leafs more often than how they looked against Calgary on Monday, the Jets are
a very Jekyll and Hyde hockey team. |

I’m not too worried about that one. They put in a stinker first period and were fine the rest of the way. I liked the physical play throughout the lineup, haven’t see that all year. Dubois struggled.
I think Wheeler was hurt earlier than suggested on tv, closer to when he missed the easy pass from Pionk that went for icing. Ensuing dzone face off and he cleared it over the glass- something was not right. If he misses some time is absence is opportunity for (Apples/Copp/Harkins/?) |

I agree. Jets never really got going after getting down early. It just demonstrates my claims how these top teams can beat each other on any given night . Even in a 7-game series I could not pick a winner. It will come down to bounces, unfortunate penalties, and goaltending. Flip a coin.
Fobert played a stinker of a game. He was in my opinion the worst Jet on the night. Stanley got schooled by Marner on the one goal but otherwise played fine. Keep your feet moving Logan !
Apples has scored some nice goals this season but rarely wins a battle on the boards. When he can use his speed and has some room he can be effective, plus he is good on the PK, but otherwise, I think he is getting more credit from the fans than he deserves.Guys like Connor, Sheif, Ehlers, Wheeler, Lowry, can rag the puck ,maintain possession, and buy time till another Jet gets open. Apples struggles to maintain possession for even a few seconds. Past Jets like Tanev, Roslovic and Armia were very good at maintaining possession as well. Apples is by no means an all-around player yet.
Lets see if the Jets can do their usual bounce-back game. |

I agree with all of this, I hadn't really noticed Appleton being poor in board battles and will now watch for that. Forbort's lack of speed was on full display last night. I continue to be impressed with Stanleys outlet passing. I don't want to harp on Morrisey, but I wonder if he would be better suited with no pp time (or maybe on pp2 - less time), as his decision making in the o-zone is often baffling to me. The saved energy could/may result in better overall play?

Demelo was our only D last night that came out ahead in all metrics. I am truly baffled at the hate he gets on here. He is sooo much better than all our D with the only exception being Pionk. Any talk of exposing Demelo is ludicrous!!! You don’t expose your arguably best D!!
Reality check for Stanley last night, he was given more opportunity against tougher comp and failed bad. I’m not writing him off by any means!! But it was proof to slow your role or excitement on a player who has been sheltered. He still has a long way to go. |

Don’t understand the Stanley hate. The guy had the least amount of offensive zone starts at 28.7% last night and still managed to come out positively in overall possession at 52.2%. Possession wise he was better than Poolman and Morrissey who had over 70% of their starts in the offensive zone.
Are we watching the same games? |

Why do you twist words?? Seriously
I am not hating, I am pointing out the fact he was bad in an increased role against better talent. I just said slow your role.
He had a CF of 45 and an XGF of 20, that’s not good at all. I am not wrong. What game are you watching???
And you are right!! Poolman and Morrisey were also bad, but I don’t remember saying they were good or anything? So I have no idea why you brought them up. I said Demelo was our ONLY good D last night.

I think I learned that skill from you! Does not feel good to be on the other side of it eh?
Furthermore where did you get these stats? They do not seem right. |

DeMelo had 10:42 of even strength ice time last night, the least of the six dmen and he plays on the 3rd pair, probably shouldn't get too excited about his fancy stats from one game. |

Actually it’s not his fancy stats for one game, his fancy stats for the entire season paint him as our best or 2nd best D with Pionk. |

DeMelo - 27, third pair d-man at best. Offensively challenged (hasn't scored in 100 games), can he even raise the puck? Defensively scary against the big boys. IMO he has peaked. Decent penalty killer. Steady but not flashy. Will never be. Average size and mobility. He is now what he is going to be.
Stanley - 22, young and getting better all the time. Lots of potential. Has offensive upside, waiting for Maurice to turn him loose. Good shot and first pass. Big and young, policeman on team. With size and stick, forwards have problems with him. Bright future ahead. 2nd pairing upside, perhaps first pairing potential.
Ross, and you would rather see the Jets protect DeMelo than "Lord Stanley?" Hopefully you're wrong, but maybe the Jets brass would agree with you, who knows?
Anyways, my take for what it is - nothing! |

Does Jet fan feel they can beat the Leafs/Oil/Habs and are the Jets going to make a move for a top 4 D man to get better?
If yes what's this page willing to pay for a legit top 4 Dman (assume any deal would include the Jets trade partner retaining salary, the jets are sending a bad contract back (Perreault) the other way or possibly both. |

Gotta give him credit. I have been hard on the guy, but he has been playing great for the past couple games. Still I hope to see this level maintained, or it will be a very regrettable signing.
Disappointing performance last-night, but by no means do I think the Jets can't beat the leafs. I just need to see the Jets playing a harder game. Hits have to be followed through every time on Marner and Matthews. Too many free passes, and if they feel like getting their sticks up in the Jets faces after whistles, mitts off. Leafs are good, but they don't like physical games and the Jets have some big bodies capable of wearing them down in a 7 game series. |

The Jets will win this division and do have a realistic chance of winning the cup this year. This is the clubs best chance considering we are not playing in the central division against St. Louis, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, Chicago, Colorado and soon to be Arizona. Those games against the central opponents become “grinders” as Maurice likes to call them. No offence to our Canadian cousins, but none of them play the hard aggressive style that the Jets have become accustomed to playing against.
If this team adds a top 4 d-man, then watch out!
I am actually quite concerned about where this team will finish once we are back in our actual division. It seems that lots of my fellow Jets fans think that when we are back there that the good times will be as easy to come by. |

I think that many feel Heinola and Samberg are already top 4 dmen and both are locks to be on the team next season so by the time the Jets are back in the usual Central division the D core will be improved internally, most Jets fans think this team is only a couple dmen away from taking the next step. |

The Jets are also second worst in the entire NHL in high danger chances against. I think that as long as the current structure stays in place, no matter who you have playing defence, we are still going to struggle. This is the second consecutive year that the Jets are the second worst in the entire NHL in that stat. The Jets have essentially been winning on talent alone. |

So maybe next season:
Morrissey- "Mr X"
Stanley-Pionk
Samberg - Heinola
Forbort? - not bad!
But who will be "Mr X?"
???
So due the Canucks situation looks like the Jets don't play again, after tonight, until next Thursday. That's the pits, isn't it? |

With the trade deadline looming and the postponed games upcoming, I think the Jets internal deadline should be this weekend. Maximize the return by eating up quarantine during the slow week. |

I would think there's a pretty good chance the Jets don't do anything major this season, maybe add a veteran depth d-man. Demers or Vlasic or someone like that.Expansion Draft will stimy major deals.
This summer hope is a different story, need to get that first-pairing RH shot d-man. Who that is, and who we give up is the question.
See Nathan Beaulieu our for the rest of season. Now what? |
