I didn't comment on his scoring. I didn't comment on the future of Hall. I commented on his overall play this season and I don't think that right now, with whatever little assets the Pens have at their disposal, should be used to acquire Hall.

I'm happy our RHD is in excellent shape or else would be very worried about Risto coming to the Pens.

I don’t see him going to the pens, but I’d think the sabres are gonna eat half regardless, so they get as much as they can for him. I thought that I saw he has a full no movement clause. If that’s the case, he can basically pick where he wants to go. I could be wrong on that tho.

I know he is a UFA and 36, but he had 47 points last year and 52 the year before that. A 3rd and a 5th seem cheap for a return, no?

Edit - They retained salary too. That is a pretty good deal for Montreal

Honestly, I thought BUF looked like they could turn it around and while I was totally shocked, I could see some rationale. Getting to play with Eichel. The thought that Skinner would probably turn his game around. Cozens coming into the NHL. Dahlin.

This is the situation GMJR left us in... that would basically be our whole 2021 draft class haha.

Staal would have been a decent short term band-aid, but I think we will utilize Pettersson and bring in someone more impactful (like a Getzlaf or D. Brown)... or someone younger and longer term (Kempe, Lowry, whoever a forward equivalent might be).

The way I see it is giving up a 1st would be laughable bad to give up for him as a rental. Then that moves to a 2nd which is still quite a premium for a 36 year old rental on a down year. “Maybe” he’s still a good 3rd liner and “maybe” he isn’t. Maybes look bad if you give up a 2nd for him and he ends up on your 4th line for 20 games then he’s gone.
Habs, Leafs, oilers and pens were all in on him though and Im sure a couple other teams so clearly they all seen the price as being low.

Defensive market is VERY thin for targets which could definitely raise the price for a Pettersson and wait for it... Matheson! The latter could possibly be a swap for a forward. Word is Hexxy “values” Matheson to what extent who knows.

I mean, IMO he is definitely still a good third liner. Buffalo just sucks the life out of you, but I guess looking at last seasons trades this is in line. I'm just stuck for some reason thinking they would have received more for him + retention. I shouldn't be lol

I was just looking this up. Both players make the same cash the next two seasons combined, 9 mill total. After that Matheson makes 6.5 mill per season for 3 years. If Pittsburgh is looking at Malkin and Letang extensions they would be open to shedding that salary.

He stinks but I’d take him for a 4th LW. Contract is beyond horrible though. Has something like 7 goals and 7 assists on the season though which is kinda funny.
Good thing is flames won’t take on another LD Valimaki, hanifin and Gio are holding that down.
