Completely agree with your trash for treasure trade analysis.
What's to say the team doesn't hand out (with the exception of Fox) long contracts for the next few seasons until the flat cap is lifted and fans get into the seats?

I just think they have to be very calculated, but we also need to remember the bigger picture and making strides to improve the team.

I went from a concrete thought to an open ended rant of stuff that went into my head and into the keyboard. lol

You're definitely the first to rant.
I do think keeping Buch for 2 more years would be a good thing. He's finally consistent, perhaps the magnets have aligned.
Hate to give up on Chytil so young but the kid has shown he can't win a faceoff and tries to skate directly through the opposing player and lose the puck. If Stevens was still playing Chytil would be in a coma. I don't want to move him to wing, god knows we have too many already, maybe send him to Hartford to try to find his game.

The question is, was there ever a game to find at center? Management drafted him and thought they saw something, now theyre being stubborn about it.

Its funny cause this board rifles off countless deficiencys in his game with minimal positives to counter, however endlessly use his age as a reason to give him a pass. He may be 21, but this is his 3rd season with the team with nothing to hint at his evolution into a center.

What I think will happen here is he will get traded, the new team will put him back on the wing and he will thrive. We will then go back, curse off and start resenting management for insisting on using him at center.

PS: Im not a big ranter lol. I try to stay within reason. Aside from my constant Barkov pipedream.

Im also beginning to wonder, have we fkd up in the handling of Kakko and LAF? Should they maybe have started out in the AHL to get their feet wet rather than jump right into the NHL? Did we really need to subject LAF to the crap show that this season turned into? Should have him play in the A, use it as practice, come in next year for training camp and get a proper season opener at MSG in front of the crowd.

In my opinion, regardless of which side you land on in this argument, it's too early to talk about ruining. We are so impatient as a fan base that it's possible it plays a role in their decision to have them on the Rangers roster. But, I don't think there was nearly as much to be gained having them play against lesser competition. Also, there was no AHL to play them in until just recently.
Kakko has already made big strides. Laf is holding his own under unprecedented circumstances.
The reason I am so against trades right now is because of the potential this line up has. Let it grow a while. This team has the chance to play together a long time and grow into one of those special teams that truly play together.

I think the Rangers did screw them up a bit. I dont know why they didnt let them play in the WJC. It would have given them a running start on the season. The Rangers definitely dont know how to develop their forwards. The defensive prospects yes but not their forwards.

If they had gone to the WJC, they would have missed the entire training camp and first few games by the time they quarantined. I can't think that it's any more complicated than that.

I'd rather him play against better competition in the NHL than in the AHL or WJC. It's showing him how good the league is and what he has to do in the off season to come back stronger and compete.

True most likely

This is dumb though now, the playoffs just aren't happening, teams are too far ahead. Pizza Boy doesn't have a future here and hasn't done much this season anyway. Get him in there.

I know you are joking here. But, it is going to be very annoying having to listen to the people who think for some reason the kid should be out there for 20 minutes in his NHL debut.

Yeah, I whole heartedly agree. We're in that weird position where we're still incredibly competitive night in and night out, chasing that last playoff spot. But if we're being honest with each other, this team probably doesn't have "it" yet. Playoffs would be fun, but not if they're going to get steamrolled by another team again.

Time to roll the dice with some of these other players. Even Tarmo and Borgan should be getting some ice time with the parent team.

I can't see him NOT playing tonight. However, I don't see any word yet!
I was shocked yesterday. When Pizza came up on here, I thought, "man, I've been saying this all year!" And then I checked his stats to support a comment to that end...
He has WAY better numbers than I would have expected. Now, take this with a grain of salt, as he is a 4th liner and I'm not trying to make him into anything else. But, I expected to see a line of zeroes. I was shocked to see he has 8 points, a +2, 37 shots and a 51.5% CF!!
I still don't want him in the line up. Was just surprised that a case could actually be made for why he's here.

Yea its just math at this point honestly

Even if Rangers went 18-4 the rest of the way, which is not happening Boston/Pitt would realistically have to go about 12-9 the rest of the way. Both of those teams are more than capable of playing a little over .500.

you gotta remember though the AHL started a month later than the NHL

the whole thing was a poop show

and Hartford plays only 3 other teams at 1pm every single game, with no fans, I'm not sure what kind of development is really going on there

Man he has the quietest 8 points and whatever 51.5 CF means

I honestly don't notice him on the ice when he plays. Maybe that is a good thing as a 4th liner. I don't want to hate on the guy but he just doesn't have a future here with all these forwards. If they were a legit playoff team I get playing him to add some veteran presence but they aren't.

Dang, only 22 games left this season...

Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing

Staal is off the books, they traded a 2nd rounder to Detroit to make that happen

Shatty's cap hit is 6 million this year, goes down to 1.4 million next year

Hank's is 5.5 million this year, goes down to 1.5 mil next year

they also have 2 more years of Girardi, 1.1 million

You forgot Ryan Spooner's $300k that comes off the books

Edit: This new idea that we're in a cap crunch next year is kind of silly. They'll have ~$31M to sign Buch, Lindgren, Shesty and Chytil. Realistically, only Buch and maybe Lindgren will receive larger raises than expected. They're perfectly fine from a cap perspective, next year.

So after this season NYR will have much more available $$, and no more dead cap space after next season....so thats good. Hopefully no more buyouts for a while. NO to buying out Trouba for God's sake

The year after next, they'll have $2.5M in dead space. Then the books are clean.

Since Hank's and Shatty's #s drop big time after this season, that is helpful
