That’s y we’d have to eat half. If Ekblad is done and they’re serious about a run this year they’re not going to get better than TonyD for the price. If they don’t like him expose him and I’d almost guarantee Seattle takes him. - nyrangers9479
Why would you wanna eat half when the buyout is only 383k! My god man |

If Ekblad is done, he goes on LITR and his money comes off the books freeing up plenty of cap for them to take on DeAngelo.
Im not willing to retain anything on DeAngelo. Its completely pointless and silly to think that a guy who was kicked off the team and hasnt played in 2 months is going to get anything. |

We finally get rid of all this dead cap money and want to voluntarily add more again for another mid round pick when we have 5 picks in the 3rd and 4th rounds already?
Nonsense |

What are we spending the cap space on? You’d rather have 338k against the cap that well have plenty of space next year rather than 2.5 million against the cap but possibly a 2nd round pick? Your basically trading cap space we don’t need for a pick. I’m taking the pick 10/10 times. If we were in a cap crunch, sure I’d agree with you. Were going to be no where near the cap next year so I don’t see why your obsessing over how much money we’ll be paying him. |

Absolutely. Why would it be empty? Rangers are going to totally use it next year, guaranteed.

They only have Buchnevich, Lindgren and Shesty to resign. That'll be pennies. |

Well we cant keep all 3, just simply cant afford to fix our depth at center AND keep Buch and Kravtsov. Cant get something for nothing.
Just keep in mind, Buch's contract will likely come with a NMC so even in the event Kakko and Kravtsov pan out to be the studs we hope they do, we cant move Buch to make room for contract extensions.
Kravtsov isnt a 3rd line player, just like Gauthier, all that will happen here is he will not get enough time and enough opportunity to make an impact. Half of us will bytch hes a bust, the other half will bytch hes not getting enough time or opportunity. Does this song and dance sound familiar? |

i'm all for trading buch to address the C needs. obviously a risk, but think it's the best course due to cap, roster space, etc |

Buffalo was up 3-0 and then give up 3 straight in the 3rd to Philly. No chance they win in OT.
Edit: Yup lol. Complete trash. |

We waited all this time for the Buchnevich we are seeing. Now, we move him and what? Keep Gauthier who is Buch 2018 and Kravstov, who I am excited about, but has yet to play a game in the NHL.
I could be wrong, but I think you underestimate the effect the flat cap and lost revenues will have on contracts signed in the next few years. I’m not saying he gets no raise. But, NMC’s should be harder to come by at the least.
I like Gauthier, but he has to be the first trade option of note. Maybe Kakko does move to the middle, IDK. I don’t have the answers, I just hate the idea of bailing the second we get what we’ve been waiting for in a player. |

Yes, ridiculous for a 60 pt defenseman that didn’t get along with his coach but all former teammates say he’s a great teammate. And the 2nd would be if we retained salary which we have the space to do. If the roles were reversed I could care less how he got along with his past coach if he came to the team and played well. Coaches and players don’t mesh all the time, look at Laine and PLD. Happens a lot more often than u think. |

Well, the team, as it is now, isnt winning anything. Were too inconsistent, we suck on faceoffs, have difficulty closing out close games, and are still looking for an identity as well as someone to step up as the leader of the team. This team as it is will get gutted and out worked because of lack of depth and some mental fragility.
Theyve created false hope at C with Chytil, which is in turn affecting everyone he plays with, namely our star pick LAF. Gauthier obviously becomes expendible unless he plays 3RW behind whoever is left between Buch/Kakko/Kravtsov.
How do you keep Panarin, LAF and Kreider / keep Buch, Kakko and Kravtsov / keep Miller, Fox, Lindgren and because we cant do anything about it Trouba / keep Shestyorkin / keep Zibanejad... and in turn address the needs we have at 2C and 3C without absolutely blowing out the cap? How do you bring in people who will likely require some sort of significant financial investment for players who have no financial burden on the cap? How do we expect to get without giving? No team is gonna ponyup a bonafide top 6 C without getting an established commodoty.
Lets say in 2 years, the Quinn experiment is over and the Rangers arent taking strides forward but seem to stay in this lateral limbo of being good but not good enough. A new coach comes in and Buch doesnt take to the new system well. We've now got a fresh new albatross under contract we cant do anything about and a bunch of kids we need to resign.
The last thing I want us to be is the new Tampa Bay Lightning where were stuck with contracts like Tyler Johnson and Yanni Gourde, and were scratching and clawing at every cent we can find to resign our studs. |

At this point Gorton would take a bag of pucks if Florida came knocking just to get rid of him. Makes no sense holding salary when he will be bought out asap when the season ends. |

No one cares about his 60pt season. You need to accept that. He played 6 games, recorded 1 point and hasnt been on the ice in 2 months. His history of being an issue in the locker room has reared its head again. THAT is all GMs see. Dump him, let him be someone elses problem. |

Completely agree with all of this.
Buch will get a raise, not a big raise, and players are going to have to understand the economics of the present reality. Should Buch choose to take a two year contract and wait and see, I'd be fine with that. |

Completely agree with your trash for treasure trade analysis.
What's to say the team doesn't hand out (with the exception of Fox) long contracts for the next few seasons until the flat cap is lifted and fans get into the seats? |
