Everyone bashed my idea of bringing in Joe Thornton for 3C on the cheap. Hes better than everyone on our team on faceoffs. May be an old dog, but still very capable. Would be a PP specialist with his HOF passing and vision. Would be a great teacher for guys like LAF and Kakko.

Thornton was never going to sign here. He is trying to win, he was only going to a contender

Getzlaf going to be a UFA, Right handed which we seem to have too many lefties, and probably has a little more left in the tank but I think you're on the right page with the better solution to be signing a veteran 3C than trade a top D prospect for one, we can always trade the D prospect when we're a true contender for another top 9 forward.

And unlike in Anaheim, Getzlaf can extend his career a couple years because the demand on him wont be as great. He would still be a special teams specialist, but will get a break on even strength.

Which I am ok with. I've been calling for a hold on the roster for a while. Obviously, I'd like Chytil to be showing a little more. But, aside from that we need to sift through and figure out who doesn't have a future here before we need to worry about who someone might be able to bring back, IMO.
Like, for years to come. We have never seen a stable of horses like this before and may not again.

I am going to disagree with you here Tony.

If the Rangers are going to go out and acquire a 20 or 21 year old center in a trade using our defensive depth, then I want to make the deal sooner rather than later. I want the kid to come in and learn our systems and style of play NOW.

Kind of the same mentality when we obtained Fox. Sure, the Rangers could have saved the 2 draft picks, waited a year and then signed Fox as a FA. But we didn't wait. We made the move and got Fox here immediately. Our coaching staff got to instruct/teach him right away. It was the right move then and I believe we should get the center sooner...

I get your logic.
I was working from a place where we wouldn't need to make any trade for a center at any time. But, even I am starting to agree that we have just about given Chytil enough time and he may not be the 2C we hoped. I still don't want to give up on him, but we can't keep the rest of the roster in stasis until he's ready. Since I doubt we make any splashes this year, he's got about 25 games to prove his worth.
Or, maybe you're right and they try to make a move now. IDK.

Wonder if Tony can be shipped to Florida to help replace injured Ekblad?

Make the trade return conditional based on how much time Tony plays. Range it from a bag of pucks up to a 2nd round pick.

- TommyGTrain

It’s makes sense for FL. If Ekblad is done for the season they’re not going to get a better replacement at the discount they’ll get Tony at. If FL doesn’t want to pay his salary next year I’m sure we could eat some or they could expose him to Seattle.

Chytil belongs on the wing and unfortunately I think Buch has priced himself out of our future with his great play and flat cap. Get a young C and pick for Buch and put Chytil on the wing.

Chytil plays LW and were stacked there.

Ya'll always make it seem like playing your off wing is a piece of cake and no big deal.

We should trade Buch and Chytil and even one of our D prospects and see what we can get out of it.

but just remember, if we buyout Tony D, it's only 383K cap hit next season for us

it's still better than any trade could possibly be where we eat some of the money

Heres another question… Strome is playing at a near ppg pace, regardless of all his other deficiences. We talk about bringing in a new young center (who is actually a center) to develop to replace Chytil. We talk about bringing in someone like Getzlaf to play a depth center and mentoring role.

My personal opinion here is we gotta sell high if we can. He may never be this good ever again and we definitely wont be paying him come free agency. Thats a trap!

I think there's a good chance they can find a number both the club and Buch are happy with.
If Chytil can't make it as a center, than move him and keep Buchnevich. He's only 25 years old, making $3.25M. He's rounded out his game to be a high IQ guy with talent in all areas of the ice. And while he's a quiet person, he's a leader on the ice.

So then we trade Kravtsov when the price is right?

If it’s just money idc, I don’t see us having any problems cap wise next year. If we can get something out of it by eating 2 million I say it’s much better than losing him for nothing.

We have to resign Buch, Shesty and Lindgren next year. That 2m could become an issue in the same way we have to dance around the cap this year because of potential bonuses.

If Florida takes Tony D'Angelo they can keep him for next year too. If they don't want Tony beyond this season, they can buy him out cheap too and/or expose him to Seattle.

If they can get Buch around 5.5 I’m all for it, he’s impressed me tremendously this year with his play away from the puck and like you said has definitely developed into a leader on this team. His near PPG pace isn’t so bad either haha.

When you look at Florida’s cap you definitely realize they don’t need another 5 million offensive defenseman next season.

That’s y we’d have to eat half. If Ekblad is done and they’re serious about a run this year they’re not going to get better than TonyD for the price. If they don’t like him expose him and I’d almost guarantee Seattle takes him.
