Not when we did it so we can watch Trouba for another 6 years - TPC
OMG you can't keep bringing up the Trouba deal. When they did that deal it made all the sense in the world. You can't apply today's circumstances to that deal when it happened. I think almost everyone was pumped for that deal. Who would have predicted a (frank)ing pandemic and a flat cap?
I can't wait till we trade Nils and he becomes Eric Karlsson in his prime - TPC
Fans are so in the moment thinkers. I just don't see Gorton/JD making that decision without Nils playing for our org. It doesn't fit into the "big picture" comments they've made over the past couple years. Eventually that script gets flipped, but I would imagine that doesn't happen until we're truly in contention mode (rather than a bubble team).
It's also important to remember that we have Hartford where the spillover in players can play.

I don't think JD will be allowing a trade of Nils or Schneider before they are on Broadway.
There's simply too much benefit to keeping them. - Tonybere
This may be why you wont see any significant trades until the deadline of next year.

Which I am ok with. I've been calling for a hold on the roster for a while. Obviously, I'd like Chytil to be showing a little more. But, aside from that we need to sift through and figure out who doesn't have a future here before we need to worry about who someone might be able to bring back, IMO.
Like, for years to come. We have never seen a stable of horses like this before and may not again.

I didn’t want him here at all. Said before they got him and after. I’ve got a good buddy in sports radio in Winnipeg and they didn’t care he left. Trouba does fill a roll that the rangers don’t have on d in the system but way to steep of a price to get him and too much money. But they have him now for a few more years and they have to work around him with all the kids coming.
Had they won the game in Philly and Washington, I think youd see a deadline deal where the Rangers may find themselves buyers where they potentially look for center depth and possibly move on from Chytil now for a more conventional and experienced center. However being pretty much out of the playoff hunt I dont see anything happening.

I would love to see Krejci brought in. I'd even overpay a little to get him as our 3c. Brings stability to the lineup and I would be quite comfortable with young guys flanking him.
I don't see Chytil sticking at C. It just hasn't worked out for him there and not for a lack of opportunity. He's a great player, but his game is better suited on the wing.

Idk. Tough to say which direction is the right one. Trading Nils seems like a mistake. Too early to make any decision on Schneider. I'd rather those types of prospects stay and move on from the young player we've seen enough of.

Everyone bashed my idea of bringing in Joe Thornton for 3C on the cheap. Hes better than everyone on our team on faceoffs. May be an old dog, but still very capable. Would be a PP specialist with his HOF passing and vision. Would be a great teacher for guys like LAF and Kakko.

You're missing the reason everyone bashed the idea. Joe Thornton called the Rangers soft a few seasons ago and has been open about not liking NYC. Some might not like him as a player, but I'd venture to say it was his comments that makes people not want him here.

Thornton was never going to sign here. He is trying to win, he was only going to a contender

Ah, right, forgot about that.

Thats fair but it was more of a conceptual idea for who we should be looking to bring in for center depth rather than the literal move.
