Fox is now 3rd amongst all defensemen in points
- TPC

He’s been phenomenal, the 2 2nds it cost us we’re well worth not waiting the extra year for free agency.

Chytil needs to be moved to the wing, that 3rd line gives us nothing. Either trade Buch for a center and move Chytil to wing or trade Chytil for a young center like Kupari. Also Laf needs to be put on a line with 2 veterans like Zib and Kreider to get him going. You can’t let your number 1 overall picks confidence go into the dirt this early in his career.

We lose a few more games it’s going to be hard not to trade Buch for a haul. He should certainly be able to land us a good center prospect.

How do people feel about Gorton? Other than the ping pong ball luck I’ve been underwhelmed by his moves. Sure he got Fox but wasn’t hard when he pretty much told Carolina he wasn’t ever going to play there and he grew up a Rangers fan his whole life. Rest of his moves have been questionable at best, I feel like Quinn gets too much crap considering he’s just cooking with what Gorton gave him.

Such a tough decision, he’s earned a top spot on this team, business wise it makes to get a center using him and it opens up a spot but could you imagine if these kids don’t pan out?

He’s producing like a bust, 1 goal aside from an empty netter in 22 games, he’s gotten plenty of opportunities, time to send a message, either start looking like an elite player or wash your hands, not the first time this organization has been bitten by a bust
- KreiderBomb

I get what you're saying but I really don't put Kakko in the bust category at all. He's showing serious signs of understanding where to be and his puck possession is very noticeable. Once he starts finishing he will be hard to contain. He's already giving teams fits down low.

Nailed the Fox trade but like you said, Fox would only play for NYR.
Nailed the Nash trade
Lost the Graves trade
Lost the Stepan/Raanta trade
Crushed on the McD/Miller trade
Ehhh on the Zucc trade
Ok on the Hayes trade
Won the Skjei trade
Crushed the Spooner/Strome trade
Ehh on the Keane for Gauthier trade
Ehh on the Trouba trade (I like it though)
Ok on the Grabner and Holden trades

All in all it’s a mixed bag, not going to win every trade

Until the kids get a fair shake in the lineup and time to develop chemistry with the guys they play with I wont say theyre busts.

I also feel like the makeups of the lines arent great. Im a firm believer in theres a science to making lines and I dont think these lines are as good as they could be. However I also believe the coaching style of Quinn isnt conducive to showcase offensive skills and making creative plays.

Why load 2 lines and throw a 3rd line of lost kids out there together? Split the 3 kids up (Kravtsov Laf Kakko) and roll 3 lines to get these kids some confidence. Crazy but I might try this for a few games

Kreider Zib Laf
Panarin Chytil Kakko
Buch Strome Kravtsov

Youre playing these guys out of their positions. Personally, given time to mesh, the lines I think that would work best:

LAF, Zib, Kakko - Take the handcuffs off LAF and let him be the playmaker he is. With Zib I feel like the 2 of them could really find even ground. Kakko will complement them with his ability to use his size to sustain possession and get to the front of the net.
Panarin, Strome, Kravtsov - Kravtsov is a sniper. Panarin is a playmaker dying to have a live stick to pass to. Strome will go along for the ride and keep feeding them the puck.
Kreider, Rooney, Buch (Blackwell) - This is your line that will give you speed, that will grind, that will harass the net... and theyll win a few faceoffs while theyre at it.

PP1 - LAF, Zib, Kakko, Panarin, Fox
PP2 - Kreider, Strome, Kravtsov, Buch (Trouba), Miller

Sorry, Chytil isnt in the plans for me on this team. Sure he started the year looking like he has mad improvements, but it looks like the real Chytil has stood up.

Furthermore, I dont think this is a sustainable team, Buch will likely get traded, and as such I like Blackwell on the third line. Trouba and Miller would be the PP2 pair.

Rick Nash for what turned into Lindgren, Miller, Spooner (see below), and Hunter Skinner.
Ryan Strome for Ryan Spooner.
Brady Skjei for a 1st rd. pick.

I feel like he's done ok.

I like those lines. But, I'd prefer to swap Kreids and Buch so no one is on their off wing.

Anyone that reads here regularly knows that I am a fan of Gorton. However, being GM is not just only about trades. There are contract negotiations, public relations, hiring of staff and most importantly --- steering the direction of the organization.

Gorton was the one issuing "The Letter". He has made all the trades to bring in the kids. It is his vision. He was the one who stepped into the spotlight when Tony D'Angelo got himself sent home. Right or wrong, a GM needs to be judged on more than just trades.

Having said all of that, I think Gorton has done an excellent job. He is far from perfect, ( he certainly hasn't won every trade ) but he is consistent and is the strong hand on the wheel to lead us into the future!

If we trade for Kupari, Chytil is more than likely gone one way or another. In this situation... what Id like to see is.

LAF, Zibanejad, Kravtsov
Panarin, Kupari, Kakko
Kreider, Strome, Gauthier
PDG, Rooney, Blackwell

I am kind of hoping Blackwell is generating some trade interest before the deadline. He’s so cheap and can play. Maybe a contender anticipating a long playoff run would like to add him for depth.

The problem with him is that he’s in the way of these young right wingers.

And he works really hard, so when it’s a game yesterday where everybody is sleeping for 2 periods, it’s too tempting for the coaching staff to keep throwing him out there.

I was thinking the same about Blackwell. If we could get a 3rd I’d take it and run.

I like him but like you guys are saying, it just removes another road block and pushes a younger player into that spot.

Rooney and Blackwell are signed into next year. Trading for Kupari kind of takes the edge off of going after a top flight center which means theres no urgency to trade Strome. Which leaves no room at C for Barron. Dont get me wrong, Ive been touting the kid since last year and I want to see him play. However, I dont expect it to happen until mid to late of next year, possibly after the deadline when rosters expand.
