There are roughly 10 teams within 5 points of us with up to 7 games in hand. Many of them play each other so just splitting it in half I think you can safely drop us 5 places in the standings. 6 of those teams are within 2 points with a minimum of 3 games in hand.

Bold statement. Is there any way we can measure his future success based off points percentage?

Top 5 goalies based on saves above expected, which normalizes for the quality of team in front of each goalie:
Andrei Vasilevskiy -- 21.9 (age 26)
Connor Hellebuyck -- 11.5 (age 27)
Marc-Andre Fleury -- 10.6 (age 37...not "young goalie")
Casey DeSmith -- 7.5 (age 29...not "young goalie")
Thatcher Demko -- 6.2 (age 25)

I think a credible argument is that Vasilevskiy is likely the best young goalie, followed by Vezina-winning Hellebuyck, then Demko.

Great to have a top goalie in the league on the team!

I think Hellebuyck is the better goalie. Vasilevskiy is definitely top 10 in the league but it's tough to say he's the best considering the quality of team he's always had in front of him.

It would be a very Canuck thing to make a run and still finish outside the playoffs lowering our draft pick.

What would be great is having a team that played well in all three zones, that could win games with average goaltending, and then adding a guy like Demko to that mix to push the team to the elite level.

Unfortunately we don't play particularly well in any of the zones.

Their latest album 'Ritual' is very solid. Some ex Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy guys in there.

Saves above expected attempts to normalize for quality & quantity of chances, for exactly this reason.

These are the two most recent Vezina winners, so I think we can call both of them "great". Happy to have Demko in that mix!

edit: I should have said "goals saved above expected"

Happy Friday!

In the new blog, I map out how the Canadiens' Covid situation impacts North Division teams, including the Canucks. And offer some alternate hockey-viewing options for this six-day break...

I fully expect them to go on a run, only to be passed at the last second by Mtl as they play their make up games at the end of the season
