Anyone remember when Paul Stewart had that story about "getting back" at Lindros for refusing to sign a stick or something?

With the fall-out from Peel, let's not forget what a P.O.S Stewart was too.

I looked at the Coyotes roster. cap hits and UFA/RFA status..it's either a major deal or a band aid, sorry to sound like I am waffling..better players are signed long term $$$ or coming off entry level contracts. Some upcoming UFA's that are interesting... anyone in your sights??

Did it take some time for those players to develop, especially Hedman...yes. Did it take a decent amount of time for them to finally win a cup...yes.

But in the meantime they did have quite a few dominating seasons in between to make fans happy. When was the last time the Flyers were consistently finishing seasons as one of the top teams in the league over spans of years?

There is one thing to have your team as one of the best in the regular season and have trouble finding that answer for the playoffs and having the Flyers who you don't know if you are going to get the best team or worst team in the league at a game to game basis for a decade.

- Glak18

Yea not sure his angle here, the Flyers are no where close to either of those teams

Said it before. Chuck has done it with Minnie. There are ways to protect other players as well. Could send them a prospect or pick to do so.

As far as the d men. If you do trade Travis s for in a package for the top or second line. That person provie and Myers could be the three protected. Many options. We are all just speculating.

What Fletch did in MIN is exactly what all GMs are trying to avoid this time around. They made arrangements and STILL ended giving up multiple difference makers.

From yesterday's blog:

Did not want to respond then as game was going on.

After putting Anders Lee on LTIR,and after putting Isles have fair bit of cap space. They will definitely be getting a high priced LW.

Taylor Hall, b/c of his expiring contract status, comes up often. But both Giroux and JVR are much better players now.

Trade:

Giroux to Isles, 1.5 mil withheld. 1st round pick, likely to be low anyway, back. After this season, Isles can easily trade him for another 1-2 mil withheld at most.

or

JVR to Isles. same amount withheld, same incentives, but a 3rd rounder back, or even Komarov (cleared waivers, 3 mil hit, but just 1 more year).

- PT21

Here is the fly in that ointment that you haven't considered. It appears that you have a 6th grade level of understanding of the salary cap. They still have to take on the future money for next season! Player like Giroux, Voracek and JVR are not likely candidates to be traded as the trade deadline. The cap is flat and many teams are up against it. The Isles have a number of player to resign for next year and are looking at about 5M to do that. They can use the Boychuk LTIR for next year but it is still tight for them.

Yea it’s probably just best to wait until the off-season but If someone is available for the right price we need to make a move. I’d also like a few forwards gone in the off-season, we need new blood, the way this team has responded to adversity this year is absolutely pathetic
- ClaudeFather

Yes, I think the Flyers need a 2nd line Left winger, I don't like Laughton in the top 6 on this team. Now whether they have this player in their system remains to be seen, but its a role they need to fill to round out their top 6.

The payments will not be the same but teams will still do what they believe is best for their organization.

Clearing space to add Chara? I would pass.

Only UFA I see this offseason I can see fans wanting is Dougie and I personally see that as a disaster in the making. The rest of the crop is re-signing with their team or guaranteed disappointment unless it's a depth signing.

- Glak18

I like Hamilton also but in the same boat with the risk there. I think the best player to target would be Adam Larsson. He would be a real good fit.

Would he fly across the country looking at rental plyers? I wouldn't think so. So we shall see if anything to it.

I have no doubts that Giroux could produce at a high level in the playoffs playing on a quality team.

There could be good adds, but as you know depends on money and term. I don't want Larsson at 5.5-6m+ over 6-7 years.

One player from the Coyotes that is coming up a lot in trade rumors is Connor Garland. He is local to the Boston area, so of course the Bruins are linked to him. Currently scoring at a point per game pace and 24th in the league in 5 on 5 scoring. Also a RFA at end of this season with 2 years of arbitration eligibility so teams are interested because they would have control of the player for two more years. I don't see the Flyers trading for a rental nor having any interest in Larson or Chychrun.

It was coming. They went to the SCF in 15, and the CF a year later.

Ditto for Colorado now. Similar stage.

The Flyers young 'uns are not even in the same galaxy as the young talent on those teams in a similar stage.

- PT21

It was coming? LOL. The Bolts won the Cup 11 years after drafting Stamkos. 10 years after drafting Hedman. The season before they got knocked out in the first round.

Good fit for what, our 3rd pairing? You want to pay over $4M for a 3rd pairing Dman? No thanks. He is not going to move the needle IMO.

Just look at this guy.

I say very, very clearly that with our salary withheld, and the amount they would withheld as well, the respective players Isles obtain would be traded this summer, and he cannot even read that.

The point is that you can have those top players but you still have to build around them to get there. It's not as easy as draft a top player and voila, as one poster consistently thinks. Many don't get there at all. So you can look at Giroux's playoff numbers but really when you're a one line team and not surrounded by much, teams can shut you down. You have to have patience. I understand fans are upset and frustrated. This season has sucked. You aren't going to trade your way or sign UFA"s to get there. You supplement with that, not build with it.

Yes, it was coming.

Teams get on a certain track, and while progression is not monotonic nor guaranteed (ergo Sharks of the 2010s), there is a good probability the track continues upwards.

You see, MJL, there are things called probabilities. Life is actually not just a series of lightning strikes, where god farts and you sniff the fragrance. Its a tad more predictable.

But nvm, you would not understand.

LOL, probabilities don't count in the standings but you would not understand that. It was coming for a decade until they finally got it right.

Your first trade scenario has the Isles taking on future dead money on the cap. With a flat cap, teams don't want to do that. They also take on the risk there. Why is it so hard for you to understand that no matter what dream scenario you invent, players with high cap hits and future years are not good candidates for trade deadline deals?

Do you also know that a team actually has to have the available cap space for a future year to take on a player with future years on his deal?
