I love the fact that multiple people are separating production (stats) and play, where a lot of people don't see the difference.

It should NEVER take games or long streaks to have a wake up call. It should take ONE period or shift to send that message. That is true leadership, but what I am afraid the message being sent to the team is "It's ok guys, relax I've been through this many times...just keep on playing the same way and it will turn around on its own". If that message is even close then who ever is saying it needs to go NOW...that is loser mentality and teams that win don't think that way.

Like when Oscar drops his gloves. Or you just take a 9-0 drubbing to win one out of you next three. Yeah pathetic.

Hart breaking his stick weeks ago should’ve been it.

But who knows. Maybe the players want change.

Wonder if la would take vorachek for something.

Honestly, they should wait until the off season. If some good smart trades are found make them. However as bad as it has been, you can't overreact to this season. This season shouldn't change your mind about any of the young players with the exception of considering who to protect among them and who not for the expansion draft. I'd be fine with moving JVR and Voracek but keep in mind that it's most likely going to be difficult and likely require taking salary back. Couturier and Giroux stays. If I've said it once, I've said it 100 times. The future of this team lies with it's young players. The core of this team moving forward is the young players. Don't abandon course. That was just lead to chaos and cap issues. Tweak the veteran support if you can. Add a good defenseman if you can. Maybe this will teach Dave Scott that nothing has changed and the team is still in the same spot.

great plan. Only 2 years away then they can reevaluate at that time. Be patient. Agree same spot as 6 years ago.

Wasn't talked about but an absolute disgrace Oscar had to drop the gloves after what he has been through.

LA has cap room and a couple of high priced vets. Would they be interested in anything?

Jake and ghost for doughty. Wonder what the sweetener would be. Or jake for kopitar.

I do think it’s time to separate he and g.

Did everyone see this? Couldn't have happened to a bigger POS than this bumhole.

Following an incident with a hot mic during Tuesday’s game between the Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings, the NHL fired referee Tim Peel.

During the second period, the game was entering a TV timeout, and Peel was heard explaining a tripping penalty he called against the Predators earlier in the frame.

“It wasn’t much, but I wanted to get a (expletive) penalty against Nashville early in the ...,” Peel said. The TV broadcast cut out before he completed his thought.

It makes me wonder how many other refs have this same attitude. It certainly seems like it.

I completely agree with this. The fact nothing happened after that is even more embarrassing.

All those signs that are shown that players are frustrated with what is happening, but same results next shift or next game. I mean I don't expect the Flyers to light up the league after 1 embarrassing loss every time, every team would do that if it was possible, but at least go back to playing basic fundamental hockey until things get patched up a bit.

Flyers need to go back the old and true...KISS...Keep It Simple Stupid. Work hard. Focus on each shift at a time. If you have the open shot, take it. Make safe plays in the defensive zone. Flyers are just their own worst enemy.

I realize that the huge hole on top RD isn’t the only issue on the roster. However, I have believed for years going back to the Hakstol/Hextall days that role to be the biggest (or tied with it) need for the correct support and configuration of depth for this team. Niskanen was a smart stopgap but he didn’t last long.

Whenever something opens that fills that hole going forward, Fletcher needs to act. I’m not really upset if that contract has term or doesn’t if they plan to sign/extend longer going forward. I know Hexy sort of did that with Talbot and it didn’t work out, but there are probably examples where it has before.

This particular addition isn’t about making the playoffs, nor should it be about whether the team deserves the help. It is possible that with the flat cap, the best chances for RD availability is before the ED. The current roster keeps on defense for me are Provorov, Myers and Braun (only 1 year left). It is possible they need a second addition besides a top RD, but since that seems to be the harder get I think they do it ASAP.

Yup. And last night our very own Patrick was one of the most physical players.

Re defense men, they are still young. The physical talent levels for Sanheim, Myers, and Provy are obvious. The mental part of the game seems lacking at times with poor decisions as well as flubs from lack of focus. We need to give these guys another year or two in order to really mature. I dont think you necessarily are what you are by 24. See Coots as example. Defenders play well into mid to late 30's. There's still time for these guys to figure it out with the turnovers and board play. It would be a big mistake to give up on Sanheim or Myers this early imho.

No question this is fairly common. I understand refs are humans too, no different than police officers, but some will and have taken that power to their heads.

Personally I would rather see some sort of automated system for calling games in all sports, which could happen in the future, but some people like the controversy that comes from human error.

People will jump on my back for this. But. If ghost isn’t able to be dealt the I would shop sanhiem. York in the wings in ld. Provie is our first l d. Keep Myers to mature as rhd are harder to find. Rest can be filled out with f a.

I am generally optimistic. However, I do not see this team playing well enough consistently to make the playoffs. My new goals for this season.

-Get Hart's game corrected. Most important player on this team, The Flyers go where he takes them.
-Work with Myers and Sanheim to correct there issues. Have them take nights off if needed. Don't care how they do it just get it done.
-Get NoPa through the season healthy.
-Move pending UFA's if they have value and are not part of the future of this team.
-Make trades that make sense longterm. I do not want a rental at this point.
-Finally, challenge the veterans. If they do not respond with consistent play within the system then a decision will need to be made.

i'm one of them. i don't like that they ref the score though, or try to even up penalties. just call the game the way you see it.

But that's part of being human though....

A player ticks off a ref, natural instinct is to show that player who is boss.

My only issue with refs is consistency , if a marginal trip is called in the first, call it the rest of the game. Switching the standard mid game is infuriating

Let’s be honest...any ounce of identity this Flyers team had left when they moved on from Simmonds.

I am afraid that whoever has been coaching them will only make things work by working with them more. It like how Kapler ruined multiple Phillies in such a short time as manager

Yes. And it greatly hurt jake and g imo

Jake said it before in interviews to reporters after losses. What are you gonna do. Guess they could trade me too. I know he cares just tired of the excuses or the attitude. It was therien or jones that had a hit mike and spoke about him just going through the motions. Yea a good player but everyone should know what I’m talking about.

I disagree with being completely awful for an extended period of time in the hopes that you hit the draft lottery.

I agree with drafting and developing players correctly. No proof that blowing it up works any better than simply drafting and developing well.

- mickel25

You wrote a lot of measured, sensible stuff today. And it's fine you agree and disagree with whatever you like.

But teams who have judiciously dwelled in the cellar for some time (extended is a subjective time, of course) and refrained from trying to correct the issue with signings have a much higher chance of future success than the mushy strategy of "drafting and developing well".

You can look at the data, which is unambiguous (we have gone through this a million times). Or you can look at examples. The examples of Chicago and Pens are of course a prime exhibit. But look also at Tampa Bay and Colorado.

Tampa Bay

Just a few years after winning the cup, with Lecavalier and St. Louis still playing at a very high level, Tampa started shedding assets. They traded Prospal (almost a ppg player then), Brad Richards (two years removed from a 91 p season, 52 points in 61 games in current season), and Boyle (their #1D) after 1 year. They made no significant moves to add players to a star studded roster.

Result? Stamkos and Hedman in successive years.

Colorado:

For a period of almost 10 years, Colorado did well in some years, very poorly in others. One thing stands out though: During these years, Avs signed not a single marquee free agent except Parenteau, and even he was quickly shipped out after 2 years. They adopted a strategy of modest additions and significant subtractions (Duchene, Stastny, Shattenkirk, Anderson, Elliott were not kept).

Result? Many misses, but Landeskog, Mackinnon, Rantanen and Makar as hauls

Colorado hasn't won anything yet. Do you doubt they will in the near future though?
