New blog with full transcript of Fletcher interview.

Some utterly transformational stuff there. Read transcript carefully, y'all.

Looks like he is exactly the physical Dman we need in that picture. Pair him with Travis and send them headhunting.

So your saying you would want Larsson in your top 4 playing 22 minutes a night? Delusional!
- jd250

Yes, I absolutely would want Larsson playing in the top 4. He's a very good player.

Laugh it up fuzzball! You can state whatever you want but this plan would work, the Flyers would have cap space, young talent and much better veteran players under this plan.

You're posting has taken a downward spiral. That's something.

My definition of "work" is the team has a legitimate chance of coming out of their division and getting into the final 4. Your plan has Larsson in the top 4 D, my plan has Hamilton and Ellis/Ekholm. Which plan do you think has a better chance of succeeding?

My plan is long term instead of your shortsighted goal to overspend and trade for players. How does your plan work with the cap in the future? With having to sign Hamilton and take on Ellis or having to resign Ekholm? With the cap expected to remain flat for the next 3-4 seasons. My plan is without question the better plan simply because I'm not locked into a win now posture. I'm looking to win now and in the future. My definition of "work" is to win a Stanley Cup and I want a team that can compete for it for the next 7-10 years rather than your plan which would see the team cap strapped and have to repeat the rebuild that were in the middle of now.

From Fletcher today: “We’re always looking to improve. I think long-term, there’s certainly some holes we probably need to fill to get to where we want to get to.”

That's certainly an understatement!

Well, I can be dead in 7-10 years (don't say it!), I want to win now! My plan works because I get rid of Jake (saved $6M in cap space), JVR ($7M) and Ghost ($4.5M) which totals $17.5M. I sign Hamilton for about $8M and Ekholm costs $3.75M, so I net $5.75M in cap space after those deals are added. I don't resign Raffl and Gust (saved $4.6M), plus I gain another $2.5M is cap space because I'm not paying buyouts anymore, so that totals $12.85 in cap space to work with. Hart gets a bridge deal and bump to about $4M per season, Sanheim also gets prove it deal at his same rate, so now I have $8.85M in space. I resign Laughton at about the same rate, trade for top 6 winger, fill the rest of the spots with kids and viola, I have a contending team and about $2-4M in cap space to work with during the year. Then the following year Couturier gets resigned at G's money and G is either traded or resigned for much, much less.

Suck on those Space Balls!

It's fantasy. It shows a lack of understanding the current NHL salary landscape. The odds of moving Voracek or JVR without taking salary back is slim to none. Did you actually read the transcripts from Fletcher's interview today? How difficult it is to move players with term?
Now you're also trading for a top 6 winger? How much is that going to cost against the cap? What kids are going to be left? You've traded them all!

To you (frank)ers who are eager to trade Coots.... Jones + Laine for Coots + Provorov in the offseason, would you do it?

We'll see. I am sure its difficult to get rid of salary at the deadline and before the ED, but after the ED will be a different story. Also Seattle will need to take on salary and will probably spend close to the cap to field a good hockey team and generate interest immediately, like Vegas did. If any team would be interested in JVR, they would be the team. And Jake will be easier to trade, especially to a team ready to contend if the Flyers cover salary which is what I proposed. So I am very close to reality, but more importantly, I am not allowing the current landscape to skew my preference for action whereas you seem to throw your hands up and say we have no choice but stay the course towards mediocrity.

The reality is that trading Voracek in the off season will require taking a similar cap hit and term in return or at the very least a significant amount of cap back. The salary cap landscape will not change. It's a flat cap environment. What team that will be ready to contend will take on an 8M cap hit? The Flyers are not in a position to retain much salary. You're no where near reality. Your last statement is not accurate. Not even close.
