Do you know what position he plays? I've seen him listed as a C and RW. More often at RW.

He's been primarily a RW for the 3 years of his college career.

If they are thinking of bringing Thompson in right away I've got a good feeling that a player is going to be on the move out. I guess Palmieri watch is on.

Assuming Nico gets healthy we seem to need RWs more; so that good. I usually look at it as a plus if guys have experience at C even in they don't play there. Team usually put their players with the highest hockey IQ and skill there.

I'm game to bring back Zajac on a 1-year deal. As I said in a recent post, the bottom 6 is without a player with more than 1-2 years of NHL experience. Zajac is effective in a 3rd line role and I think beneficial for the kids and room.. which is mostly kids.

If Fritzy is planning on dealing Palms, he'll probably pull a Shero and do it as soon as the right package comes along. So, yeah it could be soon if the market develops.

While the whole team played really well last night, Palms has looked a lot better to me. I'm hoping this (and his production) increase his trade value. Money and term aside, I still think he's a guy we want on the team. Even if we trade him, I'd try to sign him in free agency. Unlikely but not impossible. Just ask Sami Vats!

The advanced stats people are saying he's playing well just having bad luck scoring. Either way it's (frank)ing us because we need the goals he's not scoring to win games and nobody wants to trade for the guy who's having a crap season.

I like the idea of selling big on most players because with the draft pushed back a year you're going to get a really good look at the development of players. Should be a good draft to get best chances at roster players.

We can say that about a lot of guys, which is why we have a winning streak.

Yeah all the analytic community is saying hes still been playing well, he's been one of the 'unluckiest' players in the league. And when you look at the rental market for wingers you can argue he's the best available. Its either him or Hall, and you can argue Palms is the better or more attractive add based on contract/money alone. I think the baseline on a return is a 2nd and B prospect, which i'd be fine with, but hopefully get multiple teams into a bidding war to up that a bit

Also, the draft isn't being pushed back, its happening in July. So there's a chance teams get a ton of steals at the back end of the 1st and into the 2nd more than any other year based on the amount of unknown there is with a lot of prospects

I am not an advanced stats guy, but Palms has so much more to offer than just another 30 goal season. He is a leader, professional, leads the team in hits every season, and by all accounts a class act to his fans. He doesn't have to score to be a contributing player, tho on this club, if he isn't scoring who is? Happy to see him putting up numbers, and hope to see him having some success in the playoffs before coming back to Jersey to start next season.

Roger - Thanks for addressing Wedgewood.
Looks like I am not the only one who likes his game. I say we keep him as our back up. It seems he can handle the work load. It is hard to find a Nabokov/Kippersoff (spelling) tandem these days.

LeBrun on Insider Trading said the Devils and Palmieri's camp are struggling to find common ground on a new deal. Says things can change quickly but its becoming more likely he gets dealt before April 12th

You mean skating to the red line have everyone stand on the blue line and then drop it back to the goalie doesn't help you score?

I know our power play is garbage but maybe if we had 8 more minutes of time we might be able to score a goal. not sure.

We need to ice Zacha-Nico-Gusev ASAP. I think that’s the answer. No need to break up the current top 2 lines. Zacha is being wasted between Maltsev and Merkley. Gusev has worked well with Zacha, and Hischier has a 7.25m cap hit for a reason right? This team needs Gusev to be a 30g scorer. Zacha and Hischier are smart enough players to make that happen. Such a waste with Gusev, and Nico being out just takes away another opportunity for him.

really hope we don't regret taking Holtz over Rossi, Perfetti or Quinn.. his numbers aren't really jumping off the page, though I haven't seen him play. I just know Rossi was a beast and maybe got downplayed because of his size. When the Ducks didn't take him part of me felt it was a gift. Being able to score isn't everything.. being able to put yourself in position to score, to outwork guys, make plays.. is all just as important as shooting accuracy. Does he have the tools to do that at the NHL level with NHL-size ice? "Playing against men" while being average (albeit at a young age) never really wowwed me in terms of confidence it'll translate to the NHL. I'd rather a kid that dominated his competition.

I wish the Ducks would’ve taken Holtz. Then I would have went for the D in Drysdale

Holtz will be fine. Hes playing in the mens league because hes shown hes belonged as a teenager and anytime he was put onto the ice with kids his age he was too good and completely dominated. His numbers this year arent great because his team is garbage and their coaching staff blows. He started off hot but then a bunch of stuff happened. A combination of his own injury, his important teammates got injured, and his team had covid. Once he got back from his injury he couldn't get back to the same production particularly because his coach only played him 10 minutes a night with linemates who had a combined 2 points and literally could not get him the puck. We need to get him here asap, whether in Bing or with the big club. Just gotta get him out of Sweden. Hes going to be atleast a 30 goal scorer here, and im still very confident in saying that.
