It was Tim Peel and they already canned him lol

So the other refs were aware and did nothing? They should be canned too

So Peel wanted to give a team a penalty...just for sh!ts? grudge? family or friends betting on the game?

No I believe the Preds already had a couple PPs and Detroit didn't have one. It's that makeup poop, but the NHL likes it because it helps keep scoring up.

Yup. I just saw that. I mean, we all know this likely changes nothing. We may see a bump in penalty calls for a little a bit, but they will go right back.

It's not like the league didn't know about this. In fact, they're completely complicit in it.

Exactly. We already knew this is how they operate. All that idiot did was get caught on a hot mic confirming it. Peel got fired for actually telling the truth.

A brand new fan can watch a week's worth of games to understand how reffing works in the NHL.

Yes... This won't change a thing.

I actually think you might see less calls league wide the next few days to a week...then back to normal haha

Possibly. Maybe we'll see more lopsided games....as far as penalties go. Either way, we all knew they usually try to even things up in the penalty department.

Penalties in hockey are like Holding in football

There are penalties ALL THE TIME if you go by the strict written rule of the rulebook but NOBODY wants to see a parade all night to the penalty box and 20 powerplays for each team

So the Referees manage the game, when one team starts leaning with more "infractions" then they get a penalty call against them, and it evens out the equilibrium

It's like speeding, you don't need to get EVERY car that's speeding, just one every once and a while and people will slow down because they know they might get caught or there's a speed trap up ahead

He also said "It wasn't much" not that it "Wasn't a Penalty"

In other news, water is wet

Anyone who's every played hockey knows that if you get a few PP's in a row that you are due for a call against you and if the game is tight you play extra careful

I don't get the outrage, but media is all about casual fans these days

The thing about unspoken things is that they're unspoken, so when they're no longer unspoken it becomes an issue.

Well, there's obviously conversations that aren't meant to be heard.

That's the problem with the Truman Show that we're living in today

Bout damn time the officials are caught in the bs they pull. It's been my biggest gripe about the product almost forever. The concept of managing the game needs to go. the league has mandated keeping games close(reg season) to increase parity. They have silently held up biases against certain players and teams and have given favorable outcomes to others(boston). This is the least riggable of the four major sports in the US(prob why its the least popular too), but its still evident there is a form of rigging going on. Fans should not just sit there and accept that because well...its an idea sold to them years ago and makes sorta sense....no. Call the bloody rule book and see what happens. I really do not care if for a half season some teams can't adjust and take 20 penalties to their opponents 2. Just call the damn rule book...its there for a reason.
