They won't. They can't get in trouble for something that's impossible to prove without tangible evidence, and that's exactly what happened in this case. Peel just got caught on a hot mic and they had to do "something" to address it. They did the right thing, but it won't stop or deter anyone else from continuing to manage the game they way they currently do.

I wouldn't even call this all that significant. He wasn't technically "fired", he just won't work any games between now and the end of the season. Elliotte Friedman reported just a little while ago that Peel was set to retire after his last game on April 24th. So essentially he'll just collect a paycheck for sitting on his ass for the next month and then retire with his pension.

Let's be honest for a second. Do they really fire Peel if he wasn't retiring at the end of the year? I doubt it. If Colin Campbell didn't get fired over those emails years ago then how could anybody else?

Peel is often called the worst ref in the league as well so between that and retiring in less than a month it's just a meaningless gesture to the rest of the league officials. Boys.....turn the mic off

I for one shall miss him not.

That said, I don’t really have fond feelings for any official. Few fans do I should think.

Nope, in my opinion we need more former players reffing college players semi pro even ex nhlers that have played the game and have a feel for it.

Reffing sucks too, half the people hate you all of the time and that's a best case scenario

It's definitely a no-win job. Do your job right and nobody acknowledges you. Do your job wrong and everyone loathes you

I hear you on the game management stuff but I think the "management" of things like make-up calls and trying to "even things out" is absurd. Keeping the game in check by maybe calling some penalties to get guys under control is one thing, but outright gifting teams PP's because there's too many calls against one team or letting blatant stuff go late in the game is stupid.

Yea I'm not saying make a call like that I'm saying to keep a game under control which shouldn't happen much at the NHL level as opposed to a 16u game

Nothing worse then when your team gets two PP's on blatant penalties and you know your team is getting called for the next little penalty whether its a penalty or not

Yeah I get calling some closer-to-borderline stuff if the game is extra chippy and guys are running each other and they need to keep the peace a little bit. No issues with that at all. It's the stuff where they're clearly trying to edit how the game is being played to either a) "fix" a bad call earlier or b) one team has taken 6 penalties and the other only 1.

There's undoubtedly some grey area in the rules, much like the law, to allow for some interpretation and application based on severity. Nobody is looking for the rules to be called super-strict the same way nobody wants a speeding ticket for doing 56 in a 55, but sometimes the bias or micro-management is so obvious and it's infuriating. That was evident when Carter Hart got a "warning" for blatantly playing the puck outside the trapezoid in the playoffs last year because.....playoffs?

pretty amazing to me that the Islanders who had "very little in the prospect pool after Dobson" in almost every hockey blog on this site have 2 guys slowly creeping into the Calder conversation in Wahlstrom and Sorokin.

https://www.nhl.com/islan...march-22-2021/c-322799192 good breakdown of our prospects. If you watch the College hockey playoffs this gives you who the Isles have on each team too.

Tim Peel....see ya later maggot

NHL actually did the right thing for once

- eichiefs9

Yeah now they just have to fire every, single, other referee they employ because they all officiate games the same exact way. Go charred earth and start over. The NHL has the worst officiating in all of sports this is just proof of what everyone knows is going on.

Why should they? They’re not there to entertain us. The fact that some fans “like” some referees over others clearly depicts that this is a problem to begin with. They should just call games as they see them. Fans should be indifferent to them. Liking or disliking a ref shows they work outside their job description and try to control games and have biases. It ruins the sport and makes it look bush league.

Well to be fair, if Lee decides to become an official after he retires from play, I’ll probably wear zebra stripes to Islanders games.

Dobson has been taken off the list but will not join the team on this road trip.
