Of course all we ended up doing was saving about 1.3M and replacing him with Jankowski. |

I think it was part of his plan to free up money for MAF. Regardless, dumb trade. |

Pensburgh writers are a bunch of clowns that are as biased about their stupid opinions as RW is. - 10inchTerror
Really? Lol I actually think Pensburgh is decent in their analysis. They actually put in effort. |

Yup. They provided data and gave their opinion based on the data. I think that's all you can really ask for. I fail to see any agenda. |

If he was really trying to free up money for MAF he should have taken one of the rumored deals moving Horny and not taking back more money than what we started with lol |

It's hard to separate logic in JR's plan from things he simply wanted. When JR gets an idea in his head, thinks he's identified the player everyone else is overlooking, he hyper-focuses and loses all logic. Here's where I believe his line of thinking was and some of it will seem counterintuitive...
1) He wanted to move Letang. He believed Marino was ready for 1st pairing duty. Money freed up.
2) Fixated on MM. Thinks he's a second pairing dman and is a little more than half the price of Letang. So again, cap freed up from Letang not taken up since it was a basic swapping of salaries from Horn.
3) Moved Bjugstad hastily to free up that extra money.
4) Bought out JJ to free up that extra money.
5) Trade for MAF which never manifested.
6) Scrambled and jumped all over Jank and ERod thinking he could roll the dice and look like a champ if they flourished in the bottom six.
I think it's something along those lines. |

We did. And here we are looking for both a center and a right wing.
Not that moving Bjugstad was a problem in itself. But at 2M retained plus cost of a replacement who stinks, didn't work out. |

Wasn't Kahun moved for EROD? Kahun seemed like he was turning into a decent player, better than most of the bottom 6 we have now at least. |

There’s something non-hockey related about Kahun. He’s done well everywhere he goes but has been thrown away for trash all three times. He was a top line player in Chicago and was traded for Maatta. He did well here and looked like a cost controlled middle six guy and we traded him to rent Sheary for his exact same role (who’s not as good as him) and E Rod who is a 13th forward. Buffalo had like four total NHL caliber players in their roster, but didn’t tender him.
The weirdest part is that this isn’t a case of a young guy not getting a proper shake because of not being good defensively, not having what’s considered NHL size, or some other random thing that coaches obsess over and discard good players over. He’s been in elevated roles at all three stops, had average size, and seemed like he had enough of a two way game to not piss off the coach. Despite that, he has been on the outs every single time. |

We could have had a McCann-Bjugstad line that at the very least would be an overpaid 3B line which I'm sure we all would have complained about anyway, but it would be worlds better than the crap we have now.

We can take it back another step and have Hornqvist for MM and Sceviour. POJ slides into the 3rd pair.
Hornqvist, Bjugstad, and POJ for Matheson, Jankowski, and about 1.5M cap space. By just GMJR not doing two moves. Fixes most of the teams holes without using any assets allowing them to just tinker at the deadline. |

These moves were done in the name of shaking things up. They were emotional moves based on the Habs defeat. They were obvious mistakes done by pissed off GM and not logic based at all.
