If the breadman isn't included you can keep him. Without Panarin its back to 35-40 points a year
- Vukota

Yea I agree with you. I like him on a cheap deal, but man a long term big money deal scares the crap out me for him

Bothers me? I see you're one of those guys who is so obsessed with sports that you can't handle a simple conversation with a fan from another team. It's ok I was like that when I was 12

Gotcha but I also think calling him a 65 point player is a stretch but anything is possible when you play with Panarin
- Vukota

This is part of it. You can say whatever you think he SHOULD be, based on his career. But, right here, right now, with Panarin and Strome together we have 2 first lines. So, argue all you want about how he measures up as a 2C. And hopefully, with Kakko on the right, it only gets better!
When these guys are on we are a match up nightmare. As these kids progress, it only becomes more true. I have just about seen enough to join the group saying it's time for LAF to go up and Kreider down to the 3rd line. Nightmare!

So, Strome is tied for 19th in scoring among centers in the NHL, yet somehow he can't manage to be even a decent 2nd line pivot?? Last year he was 23rd, btw.
I don't throw this phrase around lightly, but you guys are (frank)ing retarded.

- Tonybere

I get that this isn't a great way to go about this, but here is a list of centers making $6-7M, their age and their points in the current season (I've bolded the players that, in theory, I would rather have over Strome):

Mathew Barzal - $7M - 23 - 25pts
Patrice Bergeron - $6.875M - 34 - 25pts
Ryan Kesler - $6.875M - 35 - 0pts
Brayden Point - $6.75M - 24 - 30pts
Paul Stastny - $6.5M - 34 - 19pts
Derek Stepan - $6.5M - 30 - 6pts
Brayden Schenn - $6.5M - 28 - 24pts
Sean Monahan - $6.375M - 25 - 20pts
Nathan MacKinnon - $6.3M - 24 - 32pts
Mark Scheifele - $6.125M - 27 - 38pts
Dylan Larkin - $6.1M - 23 - 16pts

Henrik Zetterberg - $6.083M - 39 - 0pts
Brock Nelson - $6.0M - 28 - 18pts
David Backes - $6.0M - 36 - 2pts
Jordan Staal - $6.0M - 31 - 23pts
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - $6.0M - 27 - 26pts

Ryan Strome - $4.5M - 26 - 26pts

In conclusion, Ryan Strome is a (frank)ing steal this year. If he can continue to play the way he is, I would be perfectly fine with him on my team. I've learned that the debate on Strome is more to do with who that 3c is and if they can play at a level that matches Strome. My fear with giving Strome a contract in this range is that he will turn into a player more along the lines of Stepan/Stastny, but that's a "what if scenario".

Exactly and that's why it works for you. I always liked strome on the Island. He is a solid player and if you can lock him up long term for 6 or under why wouldn't you?

Like I said we can agree to disagree here. But once again if people don't agree with someone's else opinion, this stuff starts. Why this place is getting unbearable to post in now.

Yeah, I should have prefaced by saying I would not be opening the purse strings for Strome after next year to put him on a level with some (most) of those contracts. Flat cap, guys coming off ELC's and all that. But, if there is a deal to be made that management can live with while keeping their eye on the big picture, I'm comfortable with 4-5 more years. At least, until the time comes to decide whether he gets moved down the line.

He has 83 assists in 89 career games as a Ranger. Just ridiculous considering who he mostly played with
