That's just thing. I would hope we could find an upgrade at 2c if we're spending 6-7M. The alternative way to approach the situation would be if Chytil were to put his big boy pants on and take over as 2c, then spend the money on more "effective" 3c and 4c.

But like we agreed on earlier, I'm not sold on Chytil as a C yet. Matt's point about Strome being a good stopgap is spot on.

Name any other available 2C's that put up Stromes # and will have equal/lesser contract then he has?

I think that is the argument as Strome as a stop gap on a short term deal, not a 6-7 year deal. Don't rush to trade or sign a center for the sake of it. Wait and develop the right center for the team.

And not to pump my own tires, but I've been one of the drivers of the Strome bus since the summer. He's a really good middle-6 center, but for a cup contending team he's probably best suited as the 3c. The key to all of this is Chytil or someone they draft this year. Can that player be the catalyst to make this all come together?

I view him in the same light as Brassard when he was on our team. Cup team with him as the 3c, just on the cusp with him as the 2c.

Well thats the thing, if you sign Strome long term it won't be at the 4.5 million number it is now

So, Strome is tied for 19th in scoring among centers in the NHL, yet somehow he can't manage to be even a decent 2nd line pivot?? Last year he was 23rd, btw.
I don't throw this phrase around lightly, but you guys are (frank)ing retarded.

IF he continues to play like he has the past couple of years, then his salary will go up. You are right, but everyone else will have higher salaries as well. Gonna be a tough decision after next season. Holy crap, the next two offseasons will determine NYR future for the next 10 years.

Like I said we can agree to disagree here. But once again if people don't agree with someone's else opinion, this stuff starts. Why this place is getting unbearable to post in now.

You're right. And, I apologize. That was half-hearted really.
I just don't understand why it seems that people here won't be satisfied unless we are icing a roster of the 22 best hockey players in the world.
It is ludicrous to me have those sort of expectations. It's just not realistic.

That wasn't meant just for you, but it was recent so I responded.

Like Jimbo says this place has turned into Ranger fans always just fighting and arguing with each other, trolls don't even bother anymore

I just want fans to be themselves on here. If they are emotional and over the top. let them. Sometimes you need to air out your frustrations. If people are more patient and calm. more power to you to. We are all Ranger fans though. Been posting on here too long, really don't want to stop.

And with Strome, I just think his future contract won't match the value we get back. As a stop gate at 4.5 million yea he is solid for a rebuilding team. Just don't want part of that next Big contract. You are right though his numbers are good right now

or use the Jones or Nils or Schneider and Buch package to fill that need. Strome is fine for the next 5 years

Based on what evidence? He was a 1st round draft pick- plays two way hockey, is a leader and is a 65 pt player. what are you looking for? This is dejavu to Hayes

His entire 10 year career. He has had two 50 point seasons in his career, 59 being his highest ever. He is only a career 45% on faceoffs, he doesn't kill penalties. He will also be 28 when his new contract starts. Look I am not saying he is a bad player. But I am not paying big money to him, that's what I am saying. If he wants to take another cheap deal then yea we can talk

Gotcha but I also think calling him a 65 point player is a stretch but anything is possible when you play with Panarin

Bothers me? I see you're one of those guys who is so obsessed with sports that you can't handle a simple conversation with a fan from another team. It's ok I was like that when I was 12

If the breadman isn't included you can keep him. Without Panarin its back to 35-40 points a year
