If vesey pans out, and they give him a minimal tyler motte type aav contract instead of overpaying for some older ufa in free agency, I'll take it and be happy with it.

I think they will look at him and give him a chance to succeed. Regardless of how he does Canucks do have some bottom 6 players that look ready to come on board.

They can also look at bottom guys like Barclay Goodrow as short term cheap fill ins.

Revamping the bottom 6 was obviously coming at some point. Vesey when playing a full 80 game sched puts up decent numbers. Solid move by JB.
- LordHumungous

It's a good move. Vesey is young, can score, makes 900k. It's not only what we want to see in our bottom 6, its what we need to see.

They need to stand pat and let these contracts expire. Deal sutter before next month, let LE, Beagle, and roussel expire, then rebuild the bottom 6 properly, not by cutting corners and overpaying for ufas.

Lind will demand a spot soon. Gadjovich maybe as well. Podkolzin won't be far away. Bottom 6 needs to get younger/faster/cheaper.

With Roussel and Beagle out of the line up last game the shots went up to 46?

It is easy to say get rid of them but you need to have reliable people to step in. Michaelis and Hawyrluk at this time are not the answer.

I definitely think a guy like Podkolzin will bring the shots down and Motte will also (don't trade him). Adding Vesey might help and will be a better fix than Michaelis or Hawyrluk.

The contracts will run out but the new guys will need to adapt just like Schmidt taking time. We are getting there.

Love the Vesey pickup. Why not, he’s young cheap and waivers. Nice little pickup. Brett Ritchie type would be nice next. Waivers are pretty good this year it seems

Analytically and statistically, neither player suppresses shots though, and the Canucks are winning without them playing.

I personally think the team defense and how its structured needs work, as opposed to the current personel, but thats just me. Its not sustainable to rely this heavy on your goaltending to squeeze out wins.

They need to promote from within, look to prospects, inject more youth. No more overpaying for UFA's, and more paying with draft picks to get out of messes with overspending on UFA's and getting rid of their contracts.

Fully agree they need to promote from within . One at a time. I don't mean one a year but don't bring in four bottom six players in two weeks or you are asking for trouble.

I think Vesey is a good add. Motte coming back will add . I am more concerned about a Gaudette (3 C ) replacement next year than anything else.

Alex Edler has played 112:53 of shorthanded ice time this year, more than any other player in the NHL. #Canucks

Btw, Tyler Myers is 2nd. Jay Beagle is 4th and leads all forwards

I think Canucks have a pretty good PK .

If Jimmy Vesey starts driving from Toronto to Ottawa at an average speed on 80 km/h and the distance is 389 km, accounting for an additional 15 minutes of traffic delay, will he make it in under 5 hours?!?! #Canucks

- VanHockeyGuy

Obviously never driven on the 401 in Ontario. 80km/h might get you an obstructing traffic citation.

Who’s opinions should we listen to? Are there media, or spokespeople who we should trust, and others we should ignore? Should I dismiss, for example, Ruby’s opinion because he never posts a link; or Marwood’s opinion because he hits the woodpile; or your opinion because you listen to Australian radio over the internet?
- 1970vintage

You should listen to your heart Vintage, or so I'm told multiple times.

I do not like Drance or Dahliwal or most media personalities, but that is me. You would be best to avoid anything I say because of the very reason I listen to radio over the internet and don't have a tricked out kit.

Carry on carrying on.

One game is not a good sample size. They have also given up this year 46 to Edmonton, 42 to Montreal, 43 to Ottawa, and 40 to Montreal with both Beagle and Rous in the lineup.

Like Codes said, the numbers show they're not great at surpessing shots or generating anything worthwhile themselves.

As a whole, it's the defensive system that's failing the Canucks. The team for the last few years has relied too heavily on elite goaltending mainly due to defensive breakdowns. Part of that is a more offensive, high-energy mindset.. and part of that is just terrible in-zone and team defending.

Codes also said they are winning without them ,which is a one game sample size. It has to work both ways.

We all want them replaced and they will be. I think we also all agree a coaching change is very much needed.

I don’t mind Green but his assistants are a hot mess. I’m not against replacing Green but it depends who with. Gallant has been my want but Krueger also just got fired in Buffalo.

The assistant coaches only do what they are asked/tasked.

Krueger has never demonstrated that he is capable of coaching an NHL team. He’s more of a Tony Robins - motivator, communicator. He’d be a much better AGM.

Here's what the NHL has told me about Vesey's somewhat unique situation: "The League’s Medical Director determined that the player would not need to quarantine given that he is coming from one team 'bubble' to another, in the same province — presuming he is driving himself."
