i'm just thinking why though?
He's a UFA in 2022 and they'll have all the money in the world, not sure why they'd want to trade him?

Its not a matter of them wanting to trade him, its a matter of whether Larkin wants to play for a team in full rebuild during the prime of his career. |

actually I was wrong, not UFA until summer of 2023
I gotta figure that Yzerman thinks he'll have the team on the right track by then, they can't suck forever

Not going to lie this Barkov talk does absolutely nothing for me. It's just a pipe dream by the fans. Until any concrete info comes out that the Rangers want to do it or are trying, it just a waste of time for me to think about |

Honestly, all of the trades for young centers mean nothing to me anymore. The path of least resistance is another year of rebuilding through the draft and selling high when possible.
As much as my fandom wants Barkov or (enter young center here), reality is it's not likely to happen. |

Yea, I mean if the player goes on the trade block or any insider throws out there they could be moved, no issue with speculating. But Florida is a good team this year and he is one of the top centers in the game. It's just pointless to talk about until info comes out he wants to leave. |

The team he is on doesn’t suck and is trending up so why would he leave? Panthers are looking good if they make a run they would lock him up I would think.
God I’m burnt I basically just repeated what you said |

You guys keep talking about everything but what is most crucial to resigning players. Money. Does Florida have the money to resign Barkov in this economic climate? |

You have a great point. But he’s their top guy so I would think they do something especially if he plays well in the playoffs. But again these are special times. |

It's not like they're up against the cap or anything, so if the team wants to keep their captain and best player around...yeah, they'll pay him. Their books are almost completely clean(other than Bob's ridiculous contract) the year after he's due for his raise. Probably not by accident either. |

Any other economic climate, Id agree, Barkov would probably not go anywhere. However a franchise that usually stays nearer to the cap middle already has Bobs and Ekblad taking up 17.5m of lets say a 75m budget. Sign Barkov to a mega deal of lets say 11m per year thats 28.5m out of 75m budget. Hornqvist and Yandle's 11.65m contracts will become M-NTC, however very difficult contracts to move. Theyll also need to resign Vatrano, Accari and Verhaeghe. Lets also not forget, the final piece of this all, Huberdeau becomes a free agent the year after Barkov and he deserves quite the raise as well. |

In the same turn, how would a contract that he would demand hamper the Rangers rebuild.
I think it's nice to "dream" of certain players coming to the Rangers, I do it too, however, I think the more likely chance is a player a step down from Barkov's level that will fill the 2C.
I am just not wanting the Rangers parting with too many assets for one player. |
