It’s a body check. That’s a terrible call and rule 🤷🏻‍♂️
- Slimtj100

I learned in peewees that you can’t hit someone when you’re three feet from the boards otherwise it’s boarding...

This is textbook boarding.

From the NHL rulebook:
41.1 Boarding - A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who checks an opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to be thrown violently in the boards. The severity of the penalty, based upon the degree of violence of the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.

And Tanev and the Penguins announcers are calling it a clean hit.

- Tonybere

That was the Boston announcers calling it a clean hit. Which I think it was, just an unfortunate outcome.

Wasn’t that terrible of a hit. Just the way he fell and injury made it worse

But, it's not a clean hit. It's boarding.
The rule is there to stop exactly that from happening.
I get that he hit him clean physically. But, you can't hit that guy, in that spot, that way without destroying him into the boards. Its that simple.
Tinordi looked like he might not play again for some time.

I’m with ya Tony. Hit was clean, location of the hit was not.

Idk. I see the problem with the hit, but what is a defender supposed to do, let him pass? I call it a punishable clean hit. I feel bad the guy was hurt but we take this hit out it’ll be wussy hockey eventually

2 minutes is what I would have handed out. The major is a bit much.

I’m no ref though

Lol what? The location of the hit is what makes it not a clean hit. That’s like if he got checked in the head and someone said “the hit was clean but the location on his body he hit him wasn’t”.

Remember TJ. In today's hockey world a clean, hard check, especially open ice, is offensive and calls for temper tantrums.
I wish the mentality still existed that if you can nailed and clean out with a clean hard hit, it was your fault of not keeping your head up or paying attention.

Prime example: Trouba's clean, hard open ice hit on Giroux and the Flyers when waaa, waaa.

Disclaimer so I don't get beaten up: if the hit is dirty or blindsided a foot or two away from the boards, that does not qualify under my above definition.

The kid needs to find his mojo quickly. If there is any coach that can help a goalie find his mojo, it's Allaire.
I fear that if Georgiev doesn't right the ship, he is playing his way off the team.

just thinking about all the sentiment that has no patience with the lack of production from Kakko and Lafreniere....

historically, it would fit in perfectly and such a New York Rangers thing to do to give up on these kids because they couldn't produce in a ridiculous Covid shortened 50 game season where they only play teams in the Northeast

and then 4-5 years from now they are superstars in the league on other teams

it really would fit right in with every dumb thing this team has done from Rick Middleton, to Dave Gagner, to Mike Ridley to Zubov

such a Ranger thing to do

I thought the actual contact was fine. Hands down, point of contact, etc. Where he hit him on the ice was the problem (4 feet from the boards)

You could be right Rangers have too many options coming up. He might be a Seattle Beotch Pigeon next year.

Are people giving up and wanting them traded? I see people are frustrated but haven't read much of people wanting them traded. That is a bit crazy.

If he doesn't recover to form, I can see Seattle having better options.
