Panarin needs to gather everyone around and in his broken English tell them they can't do what he does and to stop trying.

But Id like to see LAF, Kakko, Chytil atleast try to be creative and aggressive.

This would be an interesting experiment to try. I wonder if their style of play is too similar. Definitely want to see it though.
Getting a LAF-Chytil-Blackwell line my give a good forechecking and skill balance.
Chytil is getting much better on the walls. We know Blackwell is a puck hound and that allows Laf to sweep the middle of the ice like he enjoys doing. He plays very center like.
Just a thought.

Quinn still can’t stick to something. Those 3 should be together for 5 games straight and see what happens. Deal with whatever mistakes and just let them play. He keeps jockeying everyone to different lines and this is why they have no chemistry.

Vegas has left two lines ALONE for 2 seasons now (since they got Stone and Patches). What do they have? Chemistry.

This is my biggest issue with Quinn. Stop moving guys around for (frank)s sake and let them play together for an extended period. Last year they had two dominant lines because they never changed them up really. I get injuries cause changes, but he doesn’t leave lines alone enough

Love how he changes the lines every two minutes but leaves that PP together almost all year.

The players have been bad but the coaching just as bad. Laf, kakko, Zib 22 points combined is pathetic. They need to drive to the net and shoot more. None of them slow the game down like Panarin to create. They all play hot potato with the puck.

When was the last time you missed an opportunity to say Laf is bad?

It not just last night. It’s every game. If a line does nothing for the five minutes he switches them all up. I def think this contributes to the kids under performing. They have no idea who they’ll play with next shift

I don't think hes bad. His all around game has actually been good. Underlying numbers and all. His point production is awful along with kakko and zib. These guys have 35 points combined we are in PO position.

when was the last time the Rangers had their full team?

it was only in Boston on saturday, and they were great

not a coincidence

it's been bad news and bad luck since game 1

Absolutely has. Read my post earlier where I detailed all the changes as well.

It's just too much for a team to come out with any consistency.

Until that happens, the lines Id like to see are…

Panarin, Zib, Blackwell
- I like the mix of skill with Blackwells drive.
Kreider, Strome, Buchnevich
- Kreider was on a tear when Panarin was out and Strome was centering him. Why break that up?
LAF, Chytil, Kakko
- Theres no way these kids dont eventually start flying out there given the opportunity to do so.

Just leave them for 10 games and see what happens.

well yeah, but you can't really do this until Buchnevich is back

I don't get caught up in the line shuffling nearly as much as you guys do

it's also very underappreciated how special teams tend to (frank) lines up and it takes them awhile to get back to normal and then Gauthier takes another penalty

I think we forget (I know at least I do) that prior to the shut down last year, 6 of the 8 teams in our division were legit 1-8 playoff teams. This was going to be a tough division, and we all got spoiled by the late season run they went on last year.

In terms of Laf and Kakko, Mark Scheifele played 7 games as an 18 year old, 4 games as a 19 year old. It wasn't until he was 22/23 where he became around a PPG player. Pastrnak another 1st rounder, wasn't until he was 21 where he was close to a PPG player. Mikko Rantanen who we compared Laf to a bit in past blogs, 21 year old season was when he turned it on.

None of these players had to deal with what Laf and Kakko had with covid, especially Laf. I think we all saw the promise of last season and thought that would greatly accelerate the timeline of this teams success, but realistically next year, or possibly even the season after is when we should see all these young players really blossom.

I could give you a million examples of young players not immediately excelling, look at Barzal, two full seasons in junior hockey after he was drafted by the Islanders before he got here

They're having some tech issues with the #NYR practice stream today, so we haven't been able to see anything yet. But I'm told Igor Shesterkin, Adam Fox, Pavel Buchnevich and Phil Di Giuseppe are all NOT practicing today. Doesn't sound like anyone else is missing.
